Doug that’s awesome. I too want to work “pacific” into my everyday vocabulary
Avatar 9:32am

I prefer Standard Time on principle - as it's the 'real' time. & people could just adjust activity to the daylight accordingly. The daylight itself wouldn't be doing anything differently... Of course that wouldn't pacify everyone.

Avatar 🦀 10:18am

From Wikipedia: With many of his early songs, Dylan adapted or "borrowed" melodies from traditional songs. In the case of "Nottamun Town", however, the arrangement was by veteran folksinger Jean Ritchie. Unknown to Dylan, the song had been in Ritchie's family for generations, and she wanted a writing credit for her arrangement. In a legal settlement, Dylan's lawyers paid Ritchie $5,000 against any further claims.

When The Watersons played at Cal Tech in Pasadena sometime in the '70's or '80's, a friend of mine when to see them. He's somewhat of a scholar of music from the British Isles. He's also painfully shy. He was so exited to see this elusive band on our turf, he went up to Lal Waterson to express his gratitude. He said she practically died of embarrassment. He was amazed that there was a person on this miserable gray planet more socially uncomfortable that him.

Bringing some threads together. Was inspired to pull the deluxe White Album off the shelf and see what Kevin Howlett had to say about “Long, Long, Long.” 1. The “you” George is singing to is God. 2. More Beatle trivia: the basic track was the 67th take at the end of a 16 hour long session. Paul had stumbled on the note that made the wine bottle on the Leslie cabinet rattle on the 65th take.

That was one of the most interesting bits from the talk on the JH instrument -- the many versions of it in many cultures.

One can agree or disagree with the Beatles songs nominated for deep-sixing, but mostly it seemed like an exercise in thumpingly subjective over-gnawing (of course, that's the Ranker site's likely raison d'etre), and it was like a bunch of...oh, what's the word..that rhymes with ranking...what is it...?

I haven't read the reports on IG and harming teen girls but I will note this: not posting photos of yourself helps; and the other harming part is: looking at everyone else's posts and deciding that they are happier than you. It's definitely like a moving into the center of a new city with not too many clothes on !
