Favoriting Explorers Room with Flash Strap: Playlist from August 4, 2022 Favoriting

Flash Strap's avatar View Flash Strap's profile Favoriting

This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

debussy woulda been in his late '40s and stravinsky in his late '20s if i'm doing the math right
Avatar 9:18pm
Listener Gregory:

@RevR, music was changing so fast at the beginning of the 20th century, that all these people whom we think of as from different eras were actually working at the same time. It's kind of incredible.

@Flash Idunno, but they were an acoustic jazz trio that played over some tracks created on a Buchla 100 at the San Francisco Tape Music Center in the mid '60's
Avatar 9:20pm
Flash Strap:

yeah, Stravinsky composed for Woody Herman and Duke Ellington and Ravel had a very meaningful encounter, it was just a thrilling time in music
Avatar 9:21pm
Flash Strap:

@never: oh then I absolutely need to check that out
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:21pm

hell yeah les halles!!!
Avatar 9:21pm

Did Stravinsky compose for Duke Ellington?? I never heard that, though I know the Woody Herman piece.
Avatar 9:22pm

@Flash: i have the album, but i can't find out much about it. They improvised over the Buchla tracks (maybe they were improvised too)
