i never think of jethro tull as "metal".
...pop/hard rock/prog... more prog than anything else i think -although Ian Anderson has always been too narrow-minded to want to call his music prog -as if it's a negative thing.
  2:34pm
Dean:

I couldn't stand Tull until about five years ago after seeing Anderson interviewed by Rick Wakeman. He confessed to Wakeman regret about most of my issues with the band. And so suddenly I liked them! Early them, that is.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
coelacanth∅:

Anderson gradually became a parody of himself; a court jester or clown -which for me was unbearable. but i'm Thankful i was introduced to jethro tull as a child (12?) and was always actually listening to music; so eternally impressed with the arrangements and the musicianship, including war child which is relatively poppy but very good pop.
- then a snoozer, then the excellent pop album songs from the wood.
i stopped paying attention when the next one came out but they kept going, descending further & further into self-parodyness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
