Michael - I'm a working scientist so I use math every day. Problems related to energy production. Good old engineering physics and thermodynamics. But I do have problem with the "algorithmization of everything", I don't want my music suggestions to come from an algorithm, which is why I listen to WFMU. Constantly trying to balance the scientific and artistic sides of my personality!

Yetz, I used to use maths professionally every day, & I loved maths, studied it for years. In more recent decades got more interested in demathematizing for the sake of seeing the phenomena more clearly. As far as I can see, the current mathematized cosmology is an empirically-based predictive modelling of the universe, crucially employing maths. It is empirically correct mythologiizing in maths. But what it's truth is, is another question. Cf. your lovely Goethe quote.
