As similar as Clarinet & Sax are - I find the 'squeak potential' of Clarinet notably greater. (Harder to play.) Sax was distinct in having a Reed but being made of Brass like a Horn. All of which is off-topic...

Yeah clarinet's more squeak prone due to the open holes, I think. So unforgiving. Not the case with sax, those squeaks tend to happen due to clamping down on the reed too hard.

Re: whistling... if you get a friend that can also do the two finger whistle fairly loud and you both do it, whilst altering the pitch, you'll find really cool frequencies where the two tones will create harmonic overtones that sound like an old radio tuning between frequencies or a theremin going crazy. You can also do a thing where you cup your hands and you can make this really cool sound just like a recorder. By the way you can clasp the two hands together, or interlock the fingers. In either case, you create a sound cavity.

Give it a try sometimes. It's really cool to walk in the forest in the evening and create a dialogue with owls in the distance.

I'm not sure about that. Most of what I know centers around the tradition from Auvergne in central France (lots of bourées) and the recent bal folk revival that has spread all over Europe.

Produced by George Harrison - who noted the 'Chants' album of Gregorian music getting into the Charts - & & wondered why there couldn't be a Hindu counterpart. It wasn't gonna Chart because the sonics of Indian vocalization are not as mellifluous - but the sacred intent succeeds. Love this album.

Yah Handy, good question. I love Malicorne's album Pierre de Grenoble. Would love to know if the title track is trad, Grenoble is down there sort of by Auvergne, but just don't know the provenance.
