This is how I felt when at the ripe old age of 50, I finally made it into an apartment with a dishwasher. I WISH I could get a mini washer dryer; building rules prohibit them for now. In the meantime I at least feel more incentivized to cook for myself. Also there's also a really good laundromat on my block that I trust with my dropoff/wash n fold.

Webhamster Henry:

The laundry in my building is downstairs from me. On every surface is a sign saying "Clean the lint out of the dryer! It's a fire hazard!". Sure enough, last year someone threw a not-quite-out cigarette in the trash and the thrown-out dryer lint caught fire! Fortunately, only the floor and the trash can itself were melted and burned.

Jesus. Well, that beats the story around the OTHER laundromat near me--the one that is farther away. Long story short, the business was NOT diligent as far as cleaning out their lint filters, and multiple old-school high-heat dryers burst into flame one night. Took the entire laundromat with em; we're talking hot enough where melted plastic from the folding tables leaked on to the sidewalk kind of fire. Thankfully, unlike my usual place, that place was NOT a commercial tenant in my building. The FDNY was able to get things under control but the damage and the SMELL....the smell of all that and burning plastic/wiring....

I had a subscription to the Village Voice starting in the '70s and there was one record store in Tulsa that got 12' singles from NYC. Went to see Grandmaster Flash and a friend and I were the only white people in the hall. Kid Creole saw us in the audience and did a doubletake. It was a wonderful time -- so many great hiphop and punk records! Thank you Gary for reminding me of that era. It seems so long ago. Love the Bourini Records sampler!
