One thing I always wanted to hear the whole story of is when Barry wrote that Steve Miller's set was fraught with technical issues like trying to play sound effects with a tape recorder. How difficult that would be--likely and early attempt at Living in the USA, but he kept the sound effects and they eventually worked out well for him.

Monterey had a handful of ShowStoppers - as the first widely publicize Rawk Festival - with Acts from All Over - Otis in front of mostly white Hippies - Janis in front of more than Bay Area people - TheWho still quite new to the USA ...& the Jimi Hendrix Experience's total Debut in the USA. Pure potent LSD would hardly have been necessary ...but it was more than abundant of course. It later become about who *wasn't* there (or didn't make it into the original cut of the Film). The threshold & the Promise ...unlike the muddy outsized politically frustrated Eucatastrophe of Woodstock ...nowhere to go from there but the Commercial 1970s...
