Even thru my ignorant Brötzmann's was a not wholly unfamiliar name - & it's clear his playing was muscular, the definition of endurance, committed & unrestrained. Seems fairly apparent also this was his personality - both momentous & unpresuming.

He talks about Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, Memphis TN in the 50's, London in its heyday, automotive Detroit, Los Angeles, Renaissance Florence etc. It's really fantastic, maybe my favorite work of history ever

It's more of a family story than scene report, but still, all those early 20th century European intellectuals appear at some point on one side or the other of the Atlantic.

During pandemic he won a grant to travel to make field recordings. Haven't seen or heard from him since his departure.

He talks about Vienna at the turn of the 20th century, Memphis TN in the 50's, London in its heyday, automotive Detroit, Los Angeles, Renaissance Florence etc. It's really fantastic, maybe my favorite work of history ever

It's more of a family story than scene report, but still, all those early 20th century European intellectuals appear at some point on one side or the other of the Atlantic.
