I've been off the WFMU grid/network for a few days, hanging out in California beach towns. Maybe this isn't news on the comment boards, but the new Travis Scott album "dropped" two or three nights ago. It opens with a sample from Gentle Giant's "Proclamation," the first track on Power & the Glory. This is not a first, by any means; plenty of rap artists have sampled core progressive rock. But still, it's kind of pleasantly shocking. My son is impressed with the GG. Who'd have thought?

Duck Baker used to review jazz for a monthly magazine (I think Jazz Times), I ued to enjoy reading his reviews. Very interesting how he started as a ragtime guitar picker, and made his way to "out" jazz. (Reminds me of Roswell Rudd in that way).

Something that strikes me about DB's style-you don't hear the guitar mechanics at all. Many fine guitarists leave in the sliding on strings, changes of position, you can sort of hear them working. You never hear that on the DB recordings, he makes a point of playing "cleanly", so to speak...
