For a movie w/ underground Soviet bands, try Solovyov's "Assa". Mostly filmed in Ukraine, in 1987, the first film released under glasnost. Really cool music, and a good film, recommended (can be found on YouTube w/ English subs): en.wikipedia.org...

I have a lot of Ghédalia Tazartès that I got from his bandcamp around the time he passed. Have not listened to all but this track seems atypical compared to what I have listened to. Or maybe I don't remember well.

Just refreshed my memory. Voyage is somewhat more song form than a some other recordings but not atypical. Thanks for the nudge for me to revisit.

Damn, missed most of The Bags set. A much recounted anecdote or two. Pat Bag worked in Whittier at the cosmetics counter of a department store. I'd visit to chat with her; she'd reciprocate by coming into the record store where I worked in town. I also rode daily into downtown LA on a bus with drummer Terry Graham's ex, Lois, who was deep into the scene at the time.

Was in the 'hood just last week. Spoke with a guy at an amazing new Huntington Beach stereo and record store. He's originally from Bakersfield, which he escaped. Being in OC taught him about species of diversity, e.g., Vietnamese restaurants galore. Stuff he never had in Bakersfield and was so happy to discover in OC. But then he did mention that Bakersfield has a large Basque population and thus its bounty is available there.
