OMG—I KNEW Frank Moore! I brought him to Buffalo to perform at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center in the … late 80s/early 90s? Remarkable artist/character. And definitely leader of his own mini cult in SF.

I don’t even know what to say about this one
  7:07pm
ron-ji:

Bear in mind, he had cerebral palsy and could only move his neck muscles. This meant that even a simple meal could take hours—which was part of the reason his performances often lasted 6 to 47 hours. Nothing quite like him before or since, in my experience.

If this audio intrigues you, by all means do some digging. C. Carr wrote a good piece about Frank and co in the Voice (RIP) back in the 80s.

When I knew him, Frank still had a homemade ouija board that he could tap on with a pointer attached to his head. He and his (primary) partner/collaborator Linda also developed a means of silent communication that involved an entire vocabulary of minute blinks and movements with one or both eyelids—which could easily lead skeptics to wonder if Linda was the real mastermind. But no! The guy was clearly brilliant and charismatic— and a little scary, but also funny. And VERY San Francisco. Thanks for doing him justice with your description, Micah. Not easy, in his case.

I also knew Frank Moore slightly and interviewed him several times. His girl minions would translate as he pointed at a sort of ouija board with a stylus he held in his teeth. Maybe he couldn't talk, he certainly made a lot of noise, squealing, grunting and even "singing." He and his acolytes would karaoke to pop songs!

My memory may be flawed; I thought the stylus was held in his teeth, but attached to his forehead sounds more plausible. Also Micah, the concept of your program is fascinating; have you considered the new religion, Kerista, a Potytheistic cult who worship living and dead exemplars or saints such as master of psychological warfare, General Edward Lansdale, and Joan Jett! I don't know if they have a band, bllut they have comic strips land newspapers so it is likely.
