I'd recommend it if you get the chance. There's lots of great memorabilia to see but also it's very informative. Lots of background about the label and also it's relationship to Memphis. One thing I learned is that the Lorraine Motel (where Dr King was assassinated) was a community oasis. Many well known Stax songs were written there!

When you read aboutt the roster of Stax artists, you’ll notice that a lot of the musicians, singers, artists are from rural Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana. It’s definitely informed by “country” life.

Right. The 2nd generation descended from rural southern blacks that moved north in the 20’s and 30’s. Located in cities with industrial/manufacturing bases.

Yes! In the intro movie at the Stax museum a number of Stax artists talked about the influence of country radio when they were young. Country + Church = Stax! hahaha!

Aloha Joe and good Shakin’ folks. Tuning in late during my lunch(pb&j bagel) - show sounds fantastic. Did you pick up anything good at Shangri-La while in Memphis?

Me and my old lady are going to Gonerfest next year. I’m sorry I missed it this year, but I quit my job the day tickets went on sale and couldn’t justify the expense.
Although it looks like I will do some work in Memphis in December. Can never have too much Memphis.
