I always regard TheRamones as perfectly *designed* PopArt. & NYC as having this particular quality of blending Art & the Street across so many Movements across the eras. Aside- Todd said KNITTING FACTORY earlier. Last night I found my 1992 book by Michael Dorf of same name, a 5yr recap. He and crew were a sloppy buncha bizmen. He and partner Bob Appel go to holland to do a jazz fest In 1988 (after 1 yr in existence!). Writes “we were given great food, put up in nice hotels, and found ourselves treated like dignitaries. Music is an art form in Europe, whereas in America it is simply entertainment.”

English band, Vanity Fare, had the original hit version of "Hitchin' a Ride" back in 1970. They played it endlessly on KINT in El Paso, TX, while I was studying Vietnamese at Fort Bliss. The AM-radio hits from those days helped get me through the tedium and difficulty of the language study.
