when i was in japan, i used to explore the sewers/stormwater drainage systems to find wwii era tunnels (they still exist to this day). I was 10-13, but I knew where an industrial strength hose was located to clean me off (and i had clean clothes before i returned home).

my father was a physician, so I would nick from liquid nitrogen from his clinic, to freeze the locks to break them on some of the tunnel entrances. the most interesting thing we found was a table w/ playing cards, and some rusty armaments. and lots and lots of spiders. (we heard the rumors of the tunnels as one of my friend's father was in naval intelligence. i procured historical map from a japanese friend who's father was a police officer)

when i was little the river in our town overflowed every year or 2. sometimes the water was up to the 2nd floor of some houses.
when i was ~10-12 (?) my friends and i rode our stingray bicycles through the water on the streets all over town. on riverside drive it was up to my waist but we forged on. i remember seeing a whirlpool and getting maybe 6 feet away, having to warn my dumbass friends to not get any closer!
. . . but it's truly amazing, aside from not getting sucked into an open manhole in the road (because there wouldn't necessarily be a whirlpool to warn us)
that none of us got electrocuted nor extremely sick from sewer water.

used to explore abandoned buildings in brooklyn when there were still abandoned buildings to be had. theses days, if you get the right DB, you can not only find what properties are abandoned, but find the floorplans as well (i do GIS, and use the dbs for work).

when i was in grad school, living in bed-stuy, there was a new building going up next door. they put a dog in the basement after the workers would leave, and it would bark incessantly. I wasn't getting any sleep and i was in the middle of finals. so, i snapped (on day 19). I was on the fourth floor, and i jumped the 6 feet from across the alley to the third floor to the building. I made my way down to the basement to barking german shepard. it was chained to short chain. I felt pity for her. so, I went back up, and this point my roommate was worried, I jumped back up and he caught me back in through the kitchen window. I found some chinese leftovers, went back to the other building, and gave the leftovers to the dog. she never barked again. How i didn't hurt myself is a small miracle unto itself...
