Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from December 15, 2023 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I thought the Ken Burns documentary was good, if a bit long the fact that it relies on a fairly small number of people for its interviews hurts it I think. It also has a weird ax to grind with LBJ, which you know he was not perfect, but it is very weird.

Also I like Randy Newman! I was just saying as he gets older his singing becomes...Goofier? But in a good way.

Yes, Rev Rabbit. I thought Mr. Burns's 10-part documentary was well-done and it does reflect a grudging attitude toward LBJ. Lyndon's big mistake, I think, was following the advice of JFK's "best and the brightest" brain trust. MacNamara, especially..

@Uncle Michael. With regard to Kris Kristofferson's having written that "Vietnam Blues" tune played earlier. After a stellar academic career at Pomona College(Phi Beta Kappa) and his studying at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, he followed a family tradition(his father became a general) and joined the Army in the early 60s. He served in Germany and taught English at West Point. His feelings about Vietnam were not honed by having served there. I would be interested in discussing with him the genesis of that song recorded by Jack Sanders. Kris is a survivor, still with us at age 87.

@Kerplunkt. Had the pleasure of hearing Parks's "Jump" album as an unfinished project at a former venerable concert spot in Santa Monica, California, called McCabe's Guitar Shop. He brought along Kathy Dalton to handle most of the vocals. Really cool, intimate experience.

Never any idea what to Request from an FMU-J. Whole point of the enterprise seemingly being to sit here on the Receiving end (always Taking never Giving) of endless streams of mostly unfamiliar but excellent content.
& from FreeForm Programs - that suggest less narrowing fields to select from (one degree or the other)...
I suppose it would be something I know I wanna hear awlready - but am not yet overfamiliar with - ideally somehow in the DJ's 'stylee'
...yeah no idea.

as a Jam-fanatic; I was a bit concerned when “Bitterest Pill” arrived to my ears over the airwaves (via WLIR?).
I learned to accept it, even appreciate, but it took awhile. I agree it was the gateway to a drop from wonderfulness. (All Mod Cons & Setting Sons & Sound Affects are still tops). I have a love/hate relationship with The Gift album. Has anybody listened to the deluxe versions releases - worthy ?

How about more Hendrix ? I think he's one that's so exalted - it's effectively a cliche - yet he's actually not played or heard often anymore. Live version of 'Hear My Train' off 'Rainbow Bridge', say...
