Plenty of interesting stuff, but some odd omissions (of course, everyone would have their own quibbles), such as no coverage of Saturday Night Live, as I recall. I'm not a cheerleader for the show, but a comedy and media overview that covers a century right up to this one, leaving out SNL presence, duration, influence and paths of personnel was strange.

Winnicott -- himself a physician (pediatrician, doc!), a psychoanalyst, and a psychotherapist -- used "psychotherapist" and "psychoanalyst" more or less interchangeably, admitting a difference, but holding that it didn't mean nohow in practice. Not the worst model to follow.

He certainly observes "commonalities": "The psychotherapeutic journey has commonalities with improvising music, which, as a jazz pianist and composer, has been another major passion. Empathy and communication are paramount in both, and I believe my most creative level of psychotherapy and musical expression occurs when I am able to trust that I will be able to bring to bear everything I have studied and learned while simultaneously allowing myself to be so immersed in the activity that I become 'one' with it—to merge with the music, the musicians, or the patient and his psychological life."
