' Robert Wyatt (born Robert Wyatt-Ellidge, 28 January 1945) is a retired English musician. A founding member of the influential Canterbury scene bands Soft Machine and Matching Mole, he was initially a kit drummer and singer before becoming paraplegic following an accidental fall from a window in 1973, which led him to abandon band work, explore other instruments, and begin a forty-year solo career.
A key player during the formative years of British jazz fusion, psychedelia and progressive rock, Wyatt's own work became increasingly interpretative, collaborative and politicised from the mid-1970s onwards. His solo music has covered a particularly individual musical terrain ranging from covers of pop singles to shifting, amorphous song collections drawing on elements of jazz, folk and nursery rhyme.
Wyatt retired from his music career in 2014, stating "there is a pride in [stopping], I don't want [the music] to go off." He is married to English painter and songwriter Alfreda Benge. '

And yesterday was Nick Mason's birthday. Mason produced Rock Bottom, one of my all-time favorites, but he also lent his name to Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports, which is probably the best Pink Floyd side project ever. Pretty much a Carla Bley album, with Wyatt doing most of the vocals.

Jimi played Bass on some of his own Records too. Seems no one recalls him ever troubling to restring one for his left-handedness. Noel Redding spoke of his facility playing upside down (Gittar as well). Which I think a certain %age of Lefties just get used to...

Rinse or spritz a chilled coupe with absinthe, and covertly drain into the Closing Time jar. Combine Glen Passaic, embalming fluid, ceremonial wine, orange liqueur, and lemon juice, shake over ice, and pour into coupe, with remainder in the shaker on the side, just in case patron gets any ideas about rising from the grave. Thanks muchly for the Wyatt birthday survey. One of my all time favorites, Robert Wyatt is, and you pulled out many recordings new to me.

Stork. You did a Wyatt special and I was absent. Where was I? I can't seem to recall. Anyway, I plan to get with this archived show soon. Jan. 29/'24.
