Not bad! I heard Melford and Dresser back in the day (I believe), and they are great together. Dresser is really awesome on the bass and not well known enough.

The Elevators featured an 'electric jug' by SongWriter Tommy Hall. While the inestimable Roky Erickson was Lead Vocalist - Hall was their chief conceptually - the LSD cult leader, manner of speaking...

I've heard Dresser and Melford separately, perhaps even Matt Wilson, because it's hard not to have heard Matt Wilson. Dresser performed at a house concert in Oakland many years ago. Melford performed with Satoko Fujii at Maybeck Recital Hall. She joined my campus c.2005. Works in a building a short walk from mine.

The 13th Floor Elevators had an ethos of not Performing or Recording unless they were Tripping. This is in mid1960s Texas ! As writer Paul Drummond phrased it - the classic clash of the Avant-garde & the Old School. Harassed they were. Roky of course eventually was committed to the Rusk Asylum for Criminally Insane.

We lost a lot when Janis died. It's always worth revisiting Dick Cavett's interviews with her. He respected her, she was sorting out the loads of talent she possessed.

The gorilla suit story--the TRUE gorilla suit story--is that Elton John in said suit assaulted Iggy Pop on stage long ago.

Gary, the Art Ensemble's motto is (something like) Great Black Music, Past to the Future. They will play funk, cool jazz, pop, bebop, etc., all mixed in with their free improvisations.
However, you should not refer to free jazz as "screeching" if you want to be one of the cool kids.
