One Grinch story: The Grinch special was directed by the legendary Chuck Jones, but wasn’t produced by the Warners animation unit, parts of it were farmed out to several independent small animation studios that worked simultaneously trying to get this done by the scheduled air date.
In this frantic atmosphere, Jones and his team managed to completely forget to put Thurl in the credits.
After the show aired and was well received, Dr. Seuss discussed the omission with Jones, and Suess himself paid to take out a full page ad he designed himself in Variety magazine, crediting Thurl, and thanking him for his indispensable contribution.
