"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

The intentional constriction of what’s acceptable to talk about, dictated by corporate mainstream media, makes it incumbent on all of us, in places like this and in public face to face, to speak and act in acknowledgment that they’re both lying to us, and that there truly is another way for a better world. Like John and Yoko put on billboards, “if you want it.”
Speak up, and act out, folks. Or we perish.

This isn’t just about Trump. It’s about what American culture has been conditioned to be, by powerful corporate propaganda, that the main goal in life is to own property and acquire material things.
We have the means to get ensure housing, food and clothing for all. Why the fuck not? Because a small cabal of obscenely rich oligarchs have convinced you that it’s an Each Against All world of individualism.
The American Dream, in this sense, is an abject failure.

“There is just enough bullshit to hold things together in this country.
Bullshit is the glue that binds us as a nation.
Where would we be without our safe, familiar, American bullshit?
‘Land of the free, home of the brave, the American dream, all men are equal, justice is blind, the press is free, your vote counts, business is honest, the good guys win, the police are on your side, God is watching you, your standard of living will never decline… and everything is going to be just fine’ - The official national bullshit story.
I call it the American okie doke.
Every one of those items is provably untrue at one level or another. But we believe them because they’re pounded into our heads from the time we’re children. That’s what they do with that kind of thing: pound it into the heads of kids, ‘cause they know the children are much too young to be able to muster an intellectual defense against a sophisticated idea like that, and they know that up to a certain age children believe everything their parents tell them.
And as a result, they never learn to question things. Nobody questions things in this country anymore.
Nobody questions it—everybody is too fat and happy. Everybody’s got a cell phone that’ll make pancakes and rub their balls now. Way too fucking prosperous for our own good, way too fucking prosperous.
Americans have been bought off and silenced by toys and gizmos.
And no one learns to question things.”

All the dysfunction in US government we bicker about blaming the other side is purposeful. Sensationalism hawked by corporate media to distract from real material challenges faced by everybody, from out of control cost of living to college tuition to criminal middleman healthcare “insurance” companies administering care.
American elections are quite literally a codified system of bribery. Goldman Sachs, Blackstone, Google, Apple and Amazon call the shots.
The Dems v Rep, red v blue, Con v Lib, is all manufactured distraction.
The only real divide, as ever, is the 99% v the 1%.

And before all the upstanding voters come to defend American “democracy” by admonishing them all one needs to do is step back and observe these elections with clear eyes to see that it’s anything but democratic.
Elections have become total spectacle. Rich people and their bribed puppets, engaged in personality contests, with help from corporate media and the careful calculation of public relations firms in crafting candidates for consumption. Which allows the process to continue with virtually no substantive discussion or debate about the real life challenges of people just trying to get by. Candidates no longer have to worry about policy; they can position themselves simply on personality. Being entertaining, pun intended, trumps everything to Americans weened on tv and 24/7 entertainment possibilities.
Real democracy can only be found in mutual aid and protest; if it occurs ever so rarely in elections it’s with the very few candidates willing to forgo all corporate money, most spectacularly in Bernie’s campaigns.
The only hope going forward is that people, on both “sides,” will see that they’ve been trapped inside a purposefully dysfunctional system designed to divide and conquer us.
And the most powerful example that that can definitely become a reality has been the immediate flashpoint intense support among a majority of people for the killer of the CEO. I’m afraid to say, but that really has the most potential for really turning things around in this country.
