Listener comments!

  9:01am listener mark:

welcome back Ken
  9:02am Bad Ronald:

Good Morning everyone!
  9:02am Lizardner Dave:

Good morning Grandma Phyllis.
  9:02am Chris:

Hola, Ken
  9:03am Ken:

Hola everybody! Thanks Tim for last week's show!
  9:04am Mac:

Harley David son of a bitch? Welcome back. Your replacement was muy swell!
  9:06am L:

Great show so far!

Yes we Ken!
  9:06am dale:

I have to plead ignorance. Is the word on the home page pronounced "kwix-otic-ly" or "key-otic-ly"?
  9:07am jaypee:

Good morning.

I've been hearing a lot of ol' Serge on WFMU lately. It makes me think I'm at my friends place because he's always putting his record albums on the turntable. I think he's trying to seduce me. Is that what WFMU is trying to do?
  9:07am Starman:

Greeting everyone, the show sounds grest so far Ken
  9:09am dale:

Hey, you already changed the caption under Audrey!
  9:11am Parq:

Dale, it refreshes with a new one automatically Keep hitting "refresh" -- collect them all!
  9:11am owen:

dale. the second pronounciation. like the book don quixote (silent 'x' and accent on the 'e')
  9:13am BSI:

Ken, Ken, Ken!
Save me from myself!
I gots me a musical itch I just can't skretch!
  9:14am MS:

dale,

Actually, anglophones use the first as standard pronunciation for "quixotic"-- quix-ah-tic. However, English-speakers are supposed to pronounce "Quixote" correctly.
  9:14am Ken:

Tell me!
  9:15am dale:

I always get it confused with "buxotica" from Russ Myers.
  9:15am owen:

realy? that's me told.
  9:15am ?:

caption to the left: >How can you be so fucking be beautiful and so fucking wrong?<

Geez, I dunno - makes sense to me.
  9:17am still b/p:

The captions may change, but the song remains the same: Audrey sits in the window to sing Moon River; I weep.
  9:19am Parq:

The panel accompanying Fugazi pretty much sums up my day.
  9:20am Joe:

I, too, am being constantly thwarted by doors.
  9:21am John from Oslo:

Is that Tom Wait's little sister? I like it!
  9:21am LIzardner Dave:

Are you a doors fan?
  9:21am Listenerer David:

Can I get that kugel recipe again?
  9:21am Chris:

This version of Heart of Glass is brilliant.
  9:22am jen v:

seconded!
  9:22am BSI:

ah! That's the stuff!
Scratch! Scratch!
  9:23am Rodney Rippy:

Ken,

Would it be possible to play that Chewbacca song again? The one where he's all upset about Solo leaving?

That broke my heart.
  9:23am Jess:

It's not just a little bit creepy, it's a lotta bit creepy. And I like that.
  9:24am jen v:

also, hi ken!
  9:24am Chris:

Could almost be Erica Pomerantz
  9:25am still b/p:

The door encounter is from the comic adaptation of Russ Meyer's follow-up to Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! ..ain't it?

And that song is big bueno. Fabulous, Big Blood! Cover! Cover!
  9:25am Ken:

isnt that big blood cover incredible?!!
  9:25am Sazerac:

There's always room for Joy Division.
  9:25am dale:

ken, you should oversleep more often. a fine, fine set.
  9:25am jaypee:

Agreed.
  9:26am clyde stubblefied:

I'm not sure there is room for all those drum fills
  9:27am jen v.:

that big blood cover made my day so much better. is that on a premium?
  9:27am Parq:

There is some great Big Blood to be had on the Free Music Archives. I sort of think they ought to send the Residents a Father's Day card, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
  9:27am Listener James from Westwood:

Joy Division. Love it.
  9:29am PMD:

mornin' Ken and all. Ken, how are your hemorrhoids?
  9:30am Cecile:

KEN. KEN.
  9:31am JCityJensen:

Crap missed the Fugazi!
  9:33am John from Oslo:

I feel a remix contest coming up : )
  9:35am Ken:

Cecile. Cecile
  9:35am God:

The comments cease whilst Ken speaks.
  9:36am Ken:

Wrong Roids PMD! Steroids. Get it straight fer fucksake.
  9:36am Ken:

John - What's your remix contest idea?
  9:37am molerat:

I was wondering about that Commune track too.

FWIW, I found a video by Mr. Fukuoka: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eqPORZIrDU
  9:37am Cecile:

I hate to say this, but chians make some of my favorite coffee now. I *gasp* like McDonald's and Bruegger's coffee a lot.

I guess I don't hate to say it that much cause I dais it.
  9:37am Cecile:

said it. Why would I dais it?
  9:38am John from Oslo:

I was thinking of the religious thingie you were talking about Ken - gotta be some sounds to tweak there ; )
  9:38am Pearly Sweets:

McDonald's coffee is pretty all right. I picked some up on the way to work. Tastes better than the bux and is 3 bucks cheaper to boot!
  9:39am Ken:

Cecile, it's OK. I like Dunkin Donuts coffee. I love you. Wont someone bring me some coffee?
  9:39am Cecile:

I hate to say it, but the whole concept of the record squicks me out. I know. I just have a bone the size of Finland to pick with the Manson Family.

I mean, Pearly! There's a reason why they call it Charbuckx.
  9:39am Chirs:

How about this for a remix contest? Susan Boyle rermixes. The audio of that Britain's Got Talent thing is readily available....
  9:40am Joe:

So this awesome song WASN'T inspired by Our Cleansing Christ Light Master Shoko Asahara?\

...

I've made a terrible mistake.
  9:40am Parq:

"Urine for a treat"??
  9:40am Pearly Sweets:

I used some corn weenie samples in the mix I've been working on. It helps kick things off right.
  9:40am Cecile:

HOMAGOD I love DD coffee. But we have no DDs in MN, although someone is hoping to open some.

I love you too, Ken.
  9:40am BSI:

John: Surely so! But that whole corn weenie blissful monstrosity would be a tough act to follow, methinks.
  9:41am Ken:

I have to play this 10 minute long song so I can go make some coffee. sorry. at least its a good one.
  9:42am Cecile:

How about a hummpa remix contest?
  9:42am Joe:

Though if any of you unenlightened are interested in Our Holy God Lord, perhaps you should watch this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X2a90WWahE
  9:43am Cecile:

this is Eyvind Kang? I've only heard his violin jazz stuff.. This doesn't seem right.
  9:43am Janet H:

I was about to go to DD to get some coffee and a breakfast sandwich. I just woke up!
  9:44am Lizardner Dave:

I wish we had Caribou coffee shops in NY. Much better than Starbucks.
  9:44am Cecile:

drink some for me, man! mmmm.
  9:45am Cecile:

Caribou has its strengths and weaknesses.
But it is getting less roasty, which is good!

The people who started it used to work for Dunkin Donuts!
  9:45am Pearly Sweets:

This new bowie track is pretty air-tight.
  9:46am Bad Ronald:

Testes - having a ball!
  9:47am c c rider:

kidney - urine my heart?!?!?!?
  9:47am joshua K:

How do i type in this box
  9:47am Janet H:

I have caribou coffee shops by me, but i get migranes from drinking their coffee.
  9:47am Cecile:

Ovaries egg you on
  9:48am JCityJensen:

http://aarondunkel.com/Sarin_Wanted_Poster.jpg

ken's a wanted man in japan
  9:48am trrrish:

ovary - ovary easy
  9:49am Ratt:

Yes, he's a wanted maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
  9:49am PMD:

32k stream is burping a lot
  9:49am Cecile:

that's ovary easy for you to say
  9:49am Joe:

That japanese police sketch artist needs to find a new line of work.
  9:49am glandmaster flash:

gland to mouth operation - what the hell is that refering to?!?!?
  9:50am Cecile:

but really, this is Eyvind Kang?
  9:51am Ken:

Yeah, this is Kang. He's a diverse fellow.
  9:52am dragonflyshards:

Ken that poster is beautiful!...just had overies-not easy...& day-old homemade coffee.Ps-"hand-to mouth"play.
  9:53am Ken:

THIS song here - God Be With You Till We Meet Again - will soon be the subject of a remix and covers contest for the Free Music Archive. It's an old Mormon Hymn from the 19th century so it's in the pu8blic domain. But it's an amazingly great fucking song.
  9:53am glandmaster:

i had a gland in my mouth last night
  9:53am Cecile:

Wow. I have to check this out.
His violin work is outstanding. I love that record he did with Michael Bisio this guy I know put out about OMG, is it nine years ago now? Jeez.
  9:53am L:

Where do you get these playlist images? Awesome :)
  9:54am Cecile:

sounds great Ken. I gotta get over there.
  9:54am John from Oslo:

22.04.2009 Schlachthof, Wiesbaden (GER)
Eläkelaiset is in Germany - lucky Germans...

Cecile:
Free legal MP3's from Eläkeläiset can be found on their record company's site, nudge nudge:

  9:56am dc pat:

it's my son's (dc si) birthday! That squirrel thing is killing me! Gotta make one of those...
  9:56am Happy Listener:

Ohayo, bakayaro!
  9:56am Janet H:

cool, flying squirrel!......brb, gonna go get my coffee now....
  9:56am Cecile:

nice, john
maybe a hummpa Korpklaani showdown. WHho knows.
  9:56am Ken:

Man, I am a coffee whore. There weren't enough beans for a full pot so I got down on my hands and knees and scraped extra beans off the floor. Dont tell anybody.
  9:57am Happy Listener:

Love the squirrel clip!
  9:57am post it:

rocky the flying squirrel
  9:57am Sazerac:

Just not enough coffee this morning.
  9:57am Cecile:

as long as you didn't shoot them into your arm

Now can you yell i'm a whore on the air?

That's something we should remix...
  9:59am BSI:

christ, you people, i need some coffee now.

Kenya AA or bust, mofos.
  9:59am Happy Listener:

Coffee Whores of the world, unite and take over!
  9:59am Cecile:

I'm just trying not to talk about ardeningay
  10:00am Ken:

That squirrel deserves it by the way. It barks and hisses at me and wont let me onto the porch sometimes. And he was fine. But he wont be coming back, I can guarantee you that. Fucking squirrel.
  10:00am nasok:

i could watch that squirrel for hours
  10:00am Sazerac:

I'm a coffee achiever!
  10:00am jaypee:

I've had to reduce my coffee intake. This is terrible as I love the taste and aroma of coffee. I'm contemplating decaffinated coffee. Please shoot me.

Cecille, since you're in MN, aren't you into the Borg-like Dunn brothers?
  10:00am PMD:

oh oh oh - where can I find that squirrel clip?? I have to send to my brother.

Oh, and us non coffee drinkers will rule you all someday
  10:01am John from Oslo:

I just can't stop watching that squirrel...
  10:01am Pearly Sweets:

Hooray! I just checked to see that Andy and I are friends on facebook. He's so dreamy.
  10:02am JCityJensen:

the squirrel is awesome - we need to set this up on wall street.....http://aarondunkel.com/mickeysarin.jpg
  10:03am Ken:

Gosh PMD, where can you find the squirrel clip? Where the hell is it?! It's right there!!!! Grab it from the page you're asking on!!!
  10:03am Cecile:

Dunn Bros can be good, but it totally depends on the store. They do make a really nice iced tea that tastes really good without sugar (how I like it)

Also I found out their decaf really only has 5% less caffeine than regular coffee. Team Caffeine indeed.
  10:06am cohen:

bought me a ticket for an airplane...
  10:07am jaypee:

Eeeesh. My favorite TC coffee shop at the moment is Audobon in NE, always a good cup when I'm visiting friends up there.
  10:07am dragonflyshards:

where i live theres a cafe that roasts its own (organic) coffee 2-3 X a week-AND its <1.50(large)...psJAYPEE id switch to Irish breakfast tea before decaf coffee.
  10:08am Cecile:

Audobon is EXECELLENT.
I also like Diamonds very much. And the Steep and Brew in St. Paul. Riverview WIne Bar also has a great coffee bar.
  10:09am dragonfshards:

...so im spoiled.
  10:09am leonard post:

how come these post always turn into discussions about coffee or gardening?
  10:10am Cecile:

yes, you are.
  10:10am Cecile:

Because both are magic.
  10:10am Pearly Sweets:

Sometimes they become about Ray Manzarek
  10:12am G.:

What comes into people's minds --> What goes into their keyboards. What else? Personality is fate. :-)
  10:12am annie:

did someone mention gardening??
  10:12am posti it note:

and how often people use coffe grinds for their garden...wierd...
  10:12am jaypee:

Not to mention birds.
  10:12am Cecile:

Or the Go-Gos being on the bill with Black Randy instead of the Mentors.
  10:12am dragoflyshads:

-or glandular function
  10:12am still b/p:

A Ray Manzarek blend -- now THAT would be an extreeeeemely decaffeinated and bottomless cup of coffee.
  10:12am Happy Listener:

I drink fair trade, organic coffee. Especially when playing keyboards.
  10:12am PMD:

It's so nice Neil agreed to come to the show tonight
  10:13am Cecile:

Hola, Annie!
You like coffee, too, right?

Personality, or Wessonality, is destiny.
  10:14am post it:

no, no one mentioned gardening or offee
  10:14am Happy Listener:

What's your Epsonality?
  10:14am Mike:

Yo La Tengo's best song, by far
  10:14am PMD:

Now now Ken... I'm not on a coffee high like you. Please don't say you're going to add a scotcheroo to the mix.
And I'm a technoidiot, so didn't think of that.
  10:14am Cecile:

Ken, can you slide some FotC on for me?
Or that one Bats song "Crooked Path" which NOBODY will play for me.
  10:14am post it:

sorry i meant ardening or coffee
  10:15am Mike:

I like Tom Courtnay a bit better, but indeed, it rocketh.
  10:16am Cecile:

I mean, as Cecile, what I said before as Mike.
  10:16am post it:

aw what a cute little rat
  10:16am Mike:

true, so does Sugar Cube. The "by far" should come out
  10:16am dragonflyshards:

wow!creature features
  10:16am listener mark:

Enjoying my trader joe's fair trade organic bolivian blend. Laughing at that squirrel. I love it. Have to make one myself.
  10:18am post it:

i cant drink coffee it makes my heart go pitter patter
  10:18am G.:

I never got the Starbucks thing, and for taste reasons only. Those mixed coffee drinks are too hi-cal for me, So when I got plain coffee there, I would think they'd made a bad batch. It tasted like ash. Seriously. I decided they burned it on purpose to get you to buy the mixed drinks, which they make more money on, and where the ash taste is covered up by sugar and flavorings. Yum!
  10:18am Chris:

Yeah, Joe's has some good coffees. The French Roast is nice.
  10:18am Cecile:

But it is indeed a great one, Mike
  10:18am annie:

i like gardening and very strong coffee... reheating some from yesterday as we speak.. espresso with two raw sugars,, nectar. ken, when they get my donation processed there is an extra 5 in there for your tramadol addiction. i wrote a note. hope they follow through
  10:18am Ken:

Cecile - Of course I know what FotC is, but for the sake of PMD< can you please spell it out?
  10:18am Parq:

Chris, that's "Freedom Roast".
  10:19am G.:

FotC -- Friend(s) of the Comments
  10:19am Cecile:

Could be, G.
Their not burned roast is pretty good. But really, I prefer their snack plates to anything there.

Flight of the Conchords.
  10:20am Chris:

Sorry, I feel like a cheese eating surrender monkey
  10:20am Cecile:

Fight The Ogre Committee
  10:20am KUMA:

Konnnitiwa,Ken
Thanks for playing " commune No You"with correct artist name.I will inform Shiro about this with email
  10:20am PMD:

Thank you all. The short bus was really crowded this morning and am just getting settled.
  10:21am Cecile:

tell Shiro, great song! And good that he isn't pro-sarin gas! Very good!
  10:21am Ken:

Thank you Cecile. Now for the sake of poor Sean Daily, please let him know where he may find music by the FotC.
  10:21am cc rider:

what is this hippy crap. play some chicago!!!
  10:21am dc pat:

annie! Don't start the gardening talk again or some one will get pissed...

Starbucks makes their coffee to mix with a ton of dairy products, so the base coffee is too strong and ashy. People that go to Starbucks don't really like coffee--they like coffee-flavored milkshakes..
  10:22am PodSeed:

"Hard Habit to Break" please.....
  10:22am Cecile:

Aw, annie, you think of everything.

Annie, that's what I always get. mmm
  10:23am cc rider:

did u know starbucks has no policy against allowing known pedophiles to frequent their store
  10:23am Cecile:

You know what, dc pat, people can move around it.
Belock's crowd was crabby yesterday. Maybe I'll find some stories about baseball players who garden and share them next week.
  10:24am G.:

Exactly, DCP. They don't sell great coffee, they sell Mickey D shakes jiggered for a more upscale market. Making it hot instead of cold doesn't hide that!
  10:24am still b/p:

I don't drink me no coffee. Today, I feel like the squirrel of difference climbing onto the porch of cultural commonality only to be snap-launched by the colander of cold ostracism.
  10:25am Ken:

This coffee I scraped from the floor is really good! Just nobody tell Scott, Liz or Jason about it. I done a bad thing.
  10:26am BSI:

cold ostrich goes well with a strong coffee.
  10:26am Ken:

Why did Electrelane have to break up?!
  10:26am Janet H:

I'm back now with dd coffee
  10:26am Parq:

When we can, we buy a couple of different roasts from a local purveyor and do our own blend. Aftrer you get used to that, it doesn't matter what fast food coffee you buy coz they're all inferior.
  10:27am PMD:

still b/p - we must unite and be the cutter of the cord that lauches difference into the nethersphere
  10:27am annie:

there is no place that makes coffee strong enough for me. and just having had breakfast at a local diner, i can easily report that this coffee was bland and had no bite whatsoever. in my cafe we made it strong ...
  10:28am annie:

parq, isn't there a coffee snob group in FB? there should be.. and we will keep out all those who buy coffee at dunkin donuts..
  10:29am coffee club:

i still love instant
  10:29am Swami:

FOTC Friend of Tom Chat
  10:29am dc pat:

annie, Cecile: I was just kidding--we can talk about gardening until we're green in the face.

I like strong coffee too but there's something up w/ Starbucks...

Welp, as I said, dc si's b-day so gotta go....
  10:29am Lizzy:

Why is Ken so angry and quiet today?
Is he the Craigslist killer?
  10:30am G.:

Joe B got annoyed by the gardening discussion in the noon hour, and then just before 2 got really annoyed when he thought someone was implying that the 1990 Iggy tune he played wasn't as classic as Velvet era. He ended up deleting his own comments about people having bad musical taste, and the gardening ones too etc. Nothing wrong with being opinionated -- otherwise, how do you do an interesting show you choose yourself? Joe's a great guy, but Ken is a steady guy . :-)
  10:30am Parq:

Wasn't New York supposed to be the place you went to get away from bland, monolithic US culture? I don't even travel that much, and I've recently been to three or four cities that are less mall-ized than New York! I feel like a bait-and-switch victim.
  10:30am Cecile:

I am so looking up baseball players who garden though, that's a promise.
  10:31am annie:

my significant other loves instant.. even cold... and about the gardening dcp- don't get me started!!
  10:31am dc pat:

yeah, I made the "nothing good after New Values" remark. I was only half serious but BOY did it set Joe off.
  10:32am John from Oslo:

That last gif made me bicepsual
  10:32am Cecile:

Sure, G. But hey, really, how did the least innocuous topic on the planet blow up into that? Yikes.

And I was COMPLIMENTING him for playing late Iggy. That blew up in my face.
  10:32am annie:

cecile, google is your best friend. baseball/ gardening.. oooh makes my mouth drool..
  10:32am still b/p:

PMD & me: It's a no-Joe risin'!!!!
  10:32am Bad Ronald:

Joe was being spoofed by a troll. He did not post any of the berating comments, that's not his style.
  10:32am Cecile:

but I love Joe and his show and wouldn't change it or him. Yesterday was just weird.
  10:33am john:

i like instant gardening too
  10:33am dc pat:

I don't think he cared about the gardening talk...but I dunno. GOTTA GO!
  10:34am Cecile:

That's what I thought, BR. It sounded harsh, and he usually doesn't comment as much as he did yesterday, unless it's to give info on a record.
  10:34am john:

that women is terifying - jeesh
  10:34am chris:

I love it when you play this song
  10:34am Lizardner Dave:

I think Bob Ojeda was a baseball player who gardened.
  10:34am PMD:

  10:35am Cecile:

nice, LD! i'll mark him down.

Ok, what was the last show anyone saw?
  10:35am G.:

See my last sentence in my last comment. The DJs affect the tone for their comments board to some extent, even though they may feel they are at the mercy of listeners. I figured Joe might have been annoyed about offair stuff, and that affected how comments went.
  10:35am john:

great music video
  10:37am Cecile:

Yeah, G, his bad mood travelled fast. ;)

I know that how Ken feels affects me deeply. Deeply.
  10:37am Karen in Sleepy Hollow:

Greetings from Vegas! Thanks for the giggles over room service.
  10:37am annie:

  10:39am God:

It's true. I poked one. It was dead.

I hope Neil Young will remember, a southern man don't need him around, anyhow.

  10:53am esch oder anarchie!:

  10:56am john:

im trowing up now!!!!!!!!!!
  10:57am Ken:

Yeah, pretty stanky, wasn't it! Oh well.
  10:57am tim:

This is pretty unremarkable, but NOTHING can match the sadness of his concert performances in 82: head-set, Lawrence Olivier-esque gesturing... ugh. It's easy to take him now, if you just think of Ben Gazzara.
  10:57am Freddie Mac CFO:

I'm dead. I committed suicide this morning.
I'm so dead that I can't even poke myself.
  10:57am john:

better...only a little though
  10:57am Listener Dave from NH:

You can turn off auto-correction on the iPhone.
Settings -> General -> Keyboard (towards the bottom) and Auto-Correction is an option to turn on or off. I haven't really needed to do that because apparently I don't curse enough on mine. I'm doing it wrong.
  10:58am Scott Muni:

A work force block of Neil Young for you. Hooky-dooky. I'm dead now, don't smoke.
  10:58am annie:

BR- we always got a kick out of that damn thing, how corny..

Ken, do you ever dream that you're doing the show, and songs are coming to an end but you can't quite figure out what to play next or find anything ... and you can never quite catch up, and keep on having dead air? I have that dream a lot.

  11:50am NS Andy:

That's right!
  11:51am GP:

I am happy to inform you that the "ji" mandate has ended with the conclusion of the the Wooden Shjips song. Those continuing to participate do so of their own volition and hold said government harmless.
  11:52am orzolino:

  11:54am Lizardner Dave:

This is the magic of Ken. Ken plays records and you go "holy shit, that is awesome" and then you buy them and play them outside of the context of the show and they don't work. Still, everyone wins, Ken does a great show and the people who make the records get paid.
  11:55am PMDji:

No, that would be me from the short bus.
  11:56am annji-san:

ok, last gardening comment. i'm outta here gonna go plant asparagus!!!
  11:56am Ike:

Yes, LD, I've experienced that phenomenon all throughout WFMU. Fascinating, isn't it? It shows the power of a good DJ mix and segue.
  11:56am Happy Listener:

WOW! Blanketship is mashing up my favourite Iron Butterfly song! Thanks, Ken!
  11:56am Jim:

Maybe Ken should rename his show "The Magic of Ken."

These message board math problems are hard!
  11:57am PMDji:

The one exception I've found so far is Big Blood. all their stuff is great
  11:58am Kenji:

  12:16pm Cecile:

had a meeting, missed all the good stuff. Ah, well.
  5:13pm Jeff M:

Digging pretty much the entire show a bunch.

Hey, that Elakelaiset song made me think about what we'd hear if Brave Combo were Finnish rather than Texan. Maybe pretty much that.

The moving pictures frighten me. Except for the squirrel-flinger, which is cool.

(I think you'll find a high correlation between people who like the squirrel-flinger and people who've ever in their lives, even as a small child, tried to maintain a birdfeeder.)
  6:23pm Pamela R.:

Thanks again for introducing me to Jonathan Kane, even though he put such a spell on me I could not bear to get near him like one would avoid the sun. I don't hear you out-and-out sing praises for a musical artist too often. I went into that mysterious place again not only when you played his stuff on this show, but then more so when you made that comment that you super love JKs music..... ps: I've heard him play just about all of his numbers live. Sadly, he's a lot better on CD than in clubs. No fault of his; bad sound engineers. So sad.
  11:27pm Negator:

Just listened to the whole show. You are in my tops, Ken. Awesome show. You didn't really talk that much either. Hmmmmm..........
