  9:12am
annie:

hi BR!!!! word up! beautiful sunny day here...
  9:13am
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Do you acknowledge the previous DJ as you change shifts, or is more of the "averted eyes in the subway" type of encounter?
  9:15am
?:

Gotta watch it. They might have cooties.
  9:16am
jason:

ddgatgod that is a great question. i do acknowledge the DJ but I always worry about getting in their way ya know? so in that sense it is a bit like a NY subway encounter. But me and Scott McDowell have a nice moment when he stops by the new bin toward the end of his show. me and nachum bro down all the time. and if i can leave everything normalized at the end of the show, then i do an imaginary high5 w/ joe belock
  9:16am
Secular Jew:

I don't wanna end up Orthodox, God forbid!
  9:20am
Parq:

DumD, back in the 80s, on Sunday nights, we were treated to the "John Schnall Nick Hill Transitional Moment", which consisted entirely of those two DJs saying "This is the John Schnall Nick Hill Transitional Moment."
  9:38am
Cecile:

Tom Hazelmyer owns a great chain of hip sports bars in Minneapolis now. Grumpy's. Only sports bar I know of that has had the Melvins play there every year. And Shag signings. And great tater tots!
  9:51am
Luciano:

Hello from Italy, Jason!
Hey, that's a Creation cover, isn't it?
  9:52am
Cecile:

Didn't know these flies...
  9:58am
paul from Sheffield, UK:

Howdy folks.
  10:06am
Cecile:

they're a pretty cool late 80s/early 90s band.
Had very collectible singles for a while, but my favorite is Big Mod Hate Trip, which you could find for cheap for years. Tired and cold is such a great song.

Tom Hazelmyer ran Amphetamine Reptile records for years and now runs restaurants and sometimes an art gallery.
  10:08am
nasok:

so fresh and so clean
  10:11am
Barney:

Oh how I miss Grumpy's. Great beers (Bell's, Surly, etc.) and jukebox, and I think they even had a meat raffle at the Nordeast (where every corner has a bar and every bar ought to have a meat raffle) location.
  10:13am
Cecile:

they still have the meat raffle, Barney.
And they have a location in Roseville now.
It's doing gangbusters. I like DT best, near the Dome.
  10:13am
north guinea hills:

I love mos's use of the selda sample
  10:15am
Billy Moe:

God, spare us the garbage music by garbage people, please!
  10:16am
Cecile:

Jason, how are the powerpop comps at the Hyped 2 Death site?
Man, I think I need pretty much everything on that site.
  10:16am
Luciano:

thanks, Cecile!
Sounds interesting, I think I should "investigate" them :)
So focused I am on the 60s/70s, to have missed many nice things in the 80s/90s...
  10:16am

  11:22am
stingy d:

i lke the bsi doggie capture rotation flick
  11:22am
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

I never understood the test of the EBS. I mean, is there any chance the tone won't play when you press the button? Even if it did, you could just mimic the sound with your voice? Perhaps it is just getting people to associate the sound with "emergency." I think saying "this is an emergency" may have more impact, however.
  11:22am
BTH:

Ah, the Urinals, I know it from YLT covering the song
  11:23am
laura:

My question is, has the Emergency Broadcast System ever actually been used in an Actual Emergency?
  11:24am
stingy d:

oh jeez, dogs! gladys is 7. still bounds around like a mischevous puppy.
  11:28am
Salat:

Very weird that you just played Tilahoun Gessesse. I was perusing the world music section at my local library and picked out a Tilahoun Gessesse cd "Ethiopiques 17" because of the cover and loved the whole album. The song you played Lantchi Biye is my favorite from that album.
  11:28am
BSI:

Parq- sorry 'bout the typo. Head fulla puppies. Must be lunchtime.
  11:30am
Cecile:

Salat - that has happened to me a lot listening to 'FMU.
  11:30am
jason:

hey Salat, that's awesome! I wonder if my local library has some ethiopiques too...

Laura, good point. It would be much more exciting if there was an actual emergency
  11:31am
Parq:

Dum dum, what's really being tested is not on the air, it's the equipment that would link the station to the EBS if it really kicked in. Laura, yes it has, I remember it kicking in during a major storm warning some years back.
  11:34am
Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn:

Parq - thanks for the clarification.
  11:37am
dc pat:

so..more clarification: if there's an emergency, the EBS automatically hijacks the radio signal and starts telling people to hit the fallout shelters?
  11:42am
laura:

Did it kick in during the 9/11 attacks?
  11:49am
stingy d:

it's been there since 'nam, and yes the emergency broadcast system runs the world.

your daily rumors have been a test of the stingy dogcast system.
  11:50am
stingy d:

haha! c-rayz! i was in a bar with him one time... he has the best pick-up lines. pause.
  11:51am
laura:

So, stingy d, this means you want to get back to puppies?
  11:53am
laura:

Hey, this song is kind of nice.
  11:53am
new EBS wording:

had this been a real, dirty-bomb type of emergency, this warning tone would have been followed by important information, such as us inviting you to stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.
  11:54am
Ike:

Laura, no it was not used during 9/11 because they didn't want to panic everybody. Or something. I think it's intended for stuff that's clearly spreading to additional areas and not localized, e.g. lava flows, oncoming hurricanes, alien viruses in the water supply, aliens threatening to blow up Seattle, etc.
  11:54am
stingy d:

nah. it means i'm spreading rumors. who was that other rapper? alaska? coudn't have been,
  11:55am
khaleed sheik mohammed:

inishallah!
  11:56am
stingy d:

here goes my favorite c-rayz jawn

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69ll8Nttjc0&feature=related
  11:58am
laura:

Crikey. In the event that lava begins to flow into the NY Tri-State Area, I hope I have the radio on. JUST IN CASE.
  11:58am
stingy d:

that mr chop record is all stuff that re-samples some of pete rock's greatest hits.
