Dr. Wagner Jr.:

First Post
  9:22am
Tom:

nice block jason!
  9:23am
Chris:

I like this Nudge tune - its got a see emily play vibe to it,
  9:26am
dc pat:

holy shit, this Gunslingers is right on the button. Great group name too.
  9:27am
Tom:

New Gunslingers LP is 6 songs and under 30 min! How ya like them apples? Classic!
  9:29am
dc pat:

oh man, I thought we were going to get a Gunslingers 2-fer there for a second
  9:29am
jason:

mornin' Dr W, Tom, Chris, DC apt and all -- welcome to the party! Tom, I feel like a Columbus block is in order but I'm having trouble focusing. And yes the Gunslingers is crazy awesome!! they played wfmu sxsw last year
  9:30am
TC:

Yeah, go see Gunslingers if they make it back over, they're great.
  9:32am
Chris:

If you are taking requests Jason, something from the new Nothing People long player would be fab.
  9:34am
Tom:

Gunslingers will be here in March and April. 3 NYC shows. They are playing all over. Check their myspace.
  9:38am
dc pat apt:

Thanks Tom, they are in fact coming to the colony. I agree with Nothing People and maybe that new Ex 7"
  9:39am
jamesie:

Loving Peter Bagge cartoons
  9:46am
north guinea hills:

skream!
  9:47am
HotRod:

good morning! nice set.
  9:49am
jason:

hey, thanks HotRod!
  10:14am
Cecile:

Good morning all! Great stuff.

Do you have Tactics on your big MP3 database? They're classic, unique Aussie postpunk
  10:14am
Stephane:

oh boy, the magnetix!
south west France en Force!
  10:16am
Cecile:

Titan!
I have some Gary Charlson stuff on that label. I think.
  10:20am
Cecile:

I also have a Titan sampler. I love Not Lame and local stores that pull out vintage singles from time to time.
  10:22am
Ike:

Is it my imagination or are the Penetrators critiquing our modern consumerist culture? Great song either way. I need tea. Great show Jason.
  10:23am
Chris:

Cecile - I used to love Not Lame, then I figured out they are a bunch of Christians and felt I could no longer support them. Sorry Christians.
  10:24am
Cecile:

I haven't shopped from them forever. But they still have stuff that looks good.
  10:31am
Ike:

I still loved Low and bought their CDs even after I found out they were Mormons. I parsed their lyrics carefully (more or less) and found no indication of attempts to brainwash me not to consume caffeine. I need tea.
  10:32am
Cecile:

LOL, Ike.
I had to stop seeing Low live. I would end up drinking way too much to entertain myself!
  10:33am
LizGig:

If a label/business/organisation is doing no harm, does it matter what religion they profess?
  10:34am
Cecile:

I don't think it matters. For me, it's slightly more the politics. I don't shop at Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie because they were Rick Santorums single biggest campaign donors.
  10:37am
Carmichael:

Good morning Jason and fellow sentient beings. This blob-blob synth line reminds me of Camel.
  10:37am
LizGig:

I'll have to look up Rick Santorum. Once in a blue moon I have to buy something in Urban Outfitters. And speaking of avoiding dodgy companies, what is the line on Kraft? They have just bought Cadbury's, who previously bought Green & Blacks. Do we need to go looking for a different brand of hot chocolate?
  10:37am
White Rabbit:

No time to say hello, good bye; I'm late, I'm late
  10:37am
Ike:

Cecile, re: Low, ha! What, too slow and quiet for you? I thought they were fascinating live. They held my attention when few other bands can. And that was before they got loud and noisy.

Santorum HA HA HA! Dan Savage, Santorum, hee hee, I'm 12 today. Also, I need tea.
  10:37am
annie:

yes liz.... :(
  10:38am
paul:

this song will never sound the same without therese and mike talking over it for 3 hours
  10:39am
annie:

i think "endangered species" still owns themselves..
  10:40am
Carmichael:

@LizGig: Speaking of chocolate, do they still make Lion Bar chocolates? Was my favorite when I was a stupid kid many moons ago.
  10:41am
Sandy in Houston:

I am dating a Catholic right now. I wouldn't recommend that to everyone. I think so long as everyone is nice everything is ok.
  10:42am
dc pat:

just shop at Goodwill and you'll be ok.
  10:45am
LizGig:

Oh balls. I haven't easily found a summary online about Kraft, so I was hoping to avoid a brand change. Why on earth did Urban Outfitters support Santorum?
  10:45am
Chris:

I guess the problem I have with Christians is knowing, even if they don't say it (though they love to), thatthey think I'm going to hell if I don't accept JC as my saviour - and that's just mean.
  10:46am
Ike:

LizGig, Kraft chocolate isn't too great generally (but maybe not as bad as Hershey). They'd better keep their damn mitts off the Cadbury chocolate bar recipes. Also, Santorum is an anti-gay arch-conservative politician. Sex columnist Dan Savage did an AWESOME competition to re-define the word "Santorum" as a sexual term. Now it means something really grodey! Hee hee.
  10:48am
Cecile:

That's not true, Chris.
Many evangelicals, yes. Many mainline denominations, no.

Hee, hee, hee, Ike, I KNOW!

Okay, so getting off religion and politics, what's the weather like where you're at? Right now, it 's snowing, should be several inches (and a long bus ride home) tonight.
  10:49am
doug in dc:

Apparently they still make Lion Bars, but you have to go to England to enjoy one. Perennial Tea Room will ship you some, but your nostalgia would have to be overwhelming to pay for it.
  10:50am
Cecile:

What are Lion Bars, doug?
  10:50am
LizGig:

@Carmichael: Yes, they still make Lion bars. And Dime bars. But small fairtrade companies are best. Our current favourite is Montezuma, although we are very partial to Blake's coconut, which uses coconut cream instead of desiccated coconut. And Wilde Irish do a latte and cinnamon fairtrade organic bar that's a little on the sweet side but oh so yummy.
  10:50am
doug in dc:

All you need to know: http://www.chocablog.com/reviews/lion-bar/
  10:53am
Chris:

I was raised a 1/2 Catholic, so I dig, but Christian with a capitol C is something else entirely.
  10:54am
Sandy in Houston:

re: the hell thing - They think it's real! It would be mean for them not to tell you!
The bass player in my band is in a gospel band, they're awesome. I think they are all atheists. They do some snake handling.
  10:55am
Cecile:

Doug, the fluff inside doesn't sound so hot, but maybe it's better in real life.

I am extremely partial to Violet Crumble. When I used to trade nail polishes overseas, I would ask for candy in trade.
  10:57am
Chris:

HaHa, that's true Sandy.
  10:59am
dc pat:

I was raised Catholic--they use to be not so bad about the "going to hell" thing. But I don't have anything to do with dem anymore.

I'm a salty junk food guy myself: I like burnt pretzels and jalapeno chips.
  10:59am
BSI:

back from meeting, headphones on.
what's this "hell" thing now?
  10:59am
Glenn L:

A Lion Bar is exactly as if someone stuck a Kit-Kat in the middle of 100-Grand candy bar. Love 'em, myself.
  11:00am
Cecile:

I lean toward salt, but I like the occasional sweet. Greatly.
  11:00am
BT:

sleepers vid, great:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1L7M1pemYo&feature=related
  11:01am
Chris:

Well, BSI, if you don't accept Jesus Christ as your saviour you will be going to hell - that's all.
  11:01am
doug in dc:

@Sandy: Your post really reminded me of this Onion article:
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28634
  11:03am
BSI:

As long as I can get a curry & ale, this "hell" thing sounds like a win/win to me.
  11:05am
Carmichael:

Thanks, LizGig. I grew up in Ireland, but had a wicked uncle who lived in London and shipped them over for holiday treats.

Oh, and needless to say, I was raised Roman Catholic. Pre-John the 23rd, too. When folk mass came along, I was ecstatic.
  11:06am
Chris:

"I was between bands after Junkhorse broke up,"
- funny stuff d in dc
  11:07am
Cecile:

Now I like the vernacular, but love the old tunes. I'm bummed that direct TV got rid of XM and their Classics station. There was a guy who did a killer early-music and liturgical music show on Saturday night that I really miss.
  11:09am
Carmichael:

Cecile, I just found that out last week! What is this Sonic crap?? I want my Deep Tracks back ....
  11:10am
Cecile:

I KNOW. I wrote them an angry email.
They said, "well, there's no announcers". I said, "nobody knows anything about classical music, so you need announcers!" They've certainly helped me out!

And their progressive dance options are awful.
  11:15am
14K Gold Slum Computer Wizard:

Great show Jason, thanks!
  11:21am
doug in dc:

New Carrollton, classic DC experimental.
  11:23am
TC:

Holy crap, New Carrollton? I can't seem to get to the archive page at the moment, but Ineed details on this one. Classic indeed Doug.
  11:26am
Chris:

Is the FMA down for some reason?
  11:26am
jason:

shoot, it'll be back up momentarily...
  11:27am
doug in dc:

Yep, New Carrolton, once the final stop on the Red Line before it got extended. zeromoon has a label page on FMA now.
  11:27am
paul b:

A large bunch of years ago when I did a friday night show on WMUC (college station at U. Maryland) the guy who came on after me at midnight had a band he called "New Carollton". I remember the night they brought a bunch of contact mics with them and banged on metal lockers and other random objects, while chanting during a severe thunderstorm, ran it all through the board -- hanging the studio mic out the window to make sure that got mic'ed as well. That was College Radio... or something.
  11:28am
Chris:

It's back - that was odd...I was having trouble yesterday as well.
  11:29am
doug in dc:

Yeah, Jeff has some stories about WMUC, including blowing out their transformer once.
  11:30am
LizGig:

@Carmichael: Were Lions proscribed when you grew up? Along with all the other evil things from Britain. I remember Lion bars going back 20 years now.
  11:31am
BSI:

Paul B -- was yours the Porcupine Radio Show?
  11:31am
LizGig:

Which is still long after John 23rd.
  11:33am
LizGig:

And did you see the SkyNews video of the anchor making a fool of herself over ashes? And did you know you can easily and officially leave the RC church by filling out a form and posting. http://www.countmeout.ie/ I'm sure it works in other countries too.
  11:33am
TC:

New Carrollton played a reunion show last year at Orpheus Records, too.
  11:35am
jason:

thanks for all this New Carrollton info, a recent discovery for me via the Zermoon label. Anybody else have favorites from Zeromoon that we should request for the FMA?
  11:36am
dc pat:

wow, I never officially left the church. I was going to apply for excommunication but didn't know you could just fill out a form...
  11:38am
paul b:

No, the Porcupine Radio show was Mike Dougherty, Many people followed at that midnight slot: Kelly Riles from Velocity Girl and Black Tamborine (sometimes with Mike Schulman (Slumberland rec) I think I called my show "My Evil Twin."
  11:39am
Carmichael:

Liz, I needn't tell you about the *provincial* pressure to buy all things Irish (like Barry's tea, for example). And yes, an open display of UK products would bring you a sound thumping.

And I seem to have wandered away from the Church in recent decades, so I have no need to shake my fist at them anymore, especially from here in California.
  11:39am
TC:

Re: Zeromoon, the recent Bonnie Jones/Audrey Chen/Jeff Carey/Violet/Myo set is nice.
  11:41am
BSI:

Paul: AH! egad, I somehow remember all that. I did a couple of shows on Carl's show (Penny's From Hell) circa '88 -- Also attended a legendary New Carrollton gig there. Mad times.
  11:42am
BSI:

that is, "played" a couple of shows during Carl's slot, not "did" in the DJ sense.
  11:43am
LizGig:

@dc pat: Apparently that's all you need to do. In some diocese the (arch)bishop will invite you to discuss your decision, but you don't have to go. Here they're simply sending out letters to people to say that they're sorry you're leaving and that they'll remove your name from the baptismal record. There's an upswing in this country because people who aren't Catholic (but are still counted as such) want themselves removed from the baptismal records because of the clerical sexual abuse scandal.
  11:47am
dc pat:

nice LoKaPing piece here. What's the instrument?

LizGig: remove my name from the baptismal record? WAaaait a minute, not so fast....I wanna think about this....
  11:49am
jason:

LoKaPing was played on a Chinese zither, the qin
  11:51am
dc pat:

noice. Lunch time!
  11:51am
Brendan:

LO KA PING --YEAHHHH!! My most obsessed about music of the last 10 years!
Thanks Jason!
  11:52am
doug in dc:

Jason, you should get zeromoon to post the District of Noise compiliations to FMA.
  11:54am
jason:

will do, thanks for the tip doug!
  11:54am
Father Ted:

That would be an Ecumenical matter...
  11:54am
BSI:

Both compilations are golden.
  11:55am
Chris:

N.P.!!
  11:57am
Cecile:

Love ya'll. Have a great show, Todd. I'm outie.
  11:58am
Father Jack:

Feck! Drink! Grrrrls!
  11:58am
