Listener comments!

  9:03am
annie:

good morning!!
  9:06am
jason:

good morning! Quote of the day:

"is that a thing? i don't think that's a thing"

discuss
  9:12am
eliab:

it's not
  9:12am
Person:

It might be a place.
  9:13am
Paulie:

What do you hear about that thing?
  9:14am
annie:

just so i can plan my brain activity; will you be playing music conducive to proof-reading this morning jason?
  9:15am
sydneysider:

if you don't think it's a thing, then it's not a thing for you. but if jason thinks it's a thing, then it's a thing for all his listeners. and if a tree falls in the forest...
  9:19am
jason:

sort of like mispronouncing a bandname sydneysider? it's pronounced however we say it's pronounced, it's up to us right?
annie i'm not sure, what makes good proof reading music?
  9:20am
Morticia:

Why, thank you, Thing!
  9:21am
still b/p:

CLEONICE
And why do you summon us, dear Lysistrata? What is it all about?

LYSISTRATA
About a big thing.

CLEONICE (wearily)
And is it thick too?
  9:21am
sydneysider:

so you are planning to mispronounce a band name? and we'll all copy your mispronunciation. yes. or we can get the proof reader's opinion on correct pronunciation. this is starting to sound like school...
  9:21am
annie:

well, the head-banging has begun, which means likely not, so i'll just play go and vacuum. :)
  9:23am
annie:

proof-readers do not check for pronunciation, only grammar, syntax and spelling.. etc.. speech is up to y'all!
  9:24am
sydneysider:

ah, i'm actually proofing film subtitles, so we have to do a bit of pronunciation checking too. but i think i'd rather be vacuuming. now i'm suspecting the current piece is by Timmy's Orgasm. or at least it should be.
  9:27am
annie:

SS- i watched a film the other day with sub-titles which did not match the language and meaning of the speech at all. .. very sad; it lost much in translation
  9:27am
still b/p:

Ever go here, annie, for laughs, helps, crimes & horrors of interest to editors/proofers?
http://community.livejournal.com/cranky_editors
  9:28am
annie:

copying and pasting BP...
  9:30am
sydneysider:

not cranky enough for my liking! there is SO MUCH to get cranky about. bad subs can RUIN a film. best subtitling unit in the world is here at SBS in Australia, but they've just made half of us redundant! they can buy the stuff cheaper offshore. typical. sorry Jason, getting off the track a little here...

bp- bookmarked and rss-ed!! yay! it'll be fun
  9:35am
sydneysider:

Current subtitle "Next we can do cannabis, cocoa, raspberry jelly...". It's a Swedish film.
  9:36am
annie:

great ss; is this a guessing game now; name the film?
  9:38am
sydneysider:

Well, cannabis cocoa and jelly to anyone who can name it, yes. A comedy from 2008... Sorry I can't transcribe the Swedish, for our listeners in Gothenburg.
  9:40am
postmanpaul:

...sounds like a recipe for stuffed very pickled herring to me.
  9:40am
Dilara:

nice to hear Yassour N'Dour s voice
  9:40am
annie:

do you do subtitling for english films and docs to other languages?
  9:42am
sydneysider:

We do some of that, Annie, yes, but mostly LOTE into English. This might be a better clue, though it'll probably be sure to stop anyone wanting to see the film... "We’re still Sweden’s only male synchronised swimmers." And nice to hear Australia's own Robin Fox! We're very parochial over here...
  9:43am
olmo:

hi jason! yo
robin fox megabest!
  9:46am
annie:

man, i'd watch it just for the jollies of those few bits of information.
  9:51am
Cecile:

Timmy Lampinen - I'll bet he has relatives in the Upper Peninsula.
  9:51am
Ne-guh-tor:

Fist my wife.
  9:51am
listener james from westwood:

uh oh--someone's coming in for a fisting!
  9:52am
listener james from westwood:

bang!
  9:53am
turtle boy:

i can't proofread anymore - this song is lodged in my semi-cclon.
  9:54am
sydneysider:

that's it from me. midnight. enough swedish synchronised swimming. i'm off to wash my fists then, since he said so...
  9:56am
annie:

night ss..
  10:01am
north guinea hills:

Bernie Krause in the background!
  10:11am
annie:

  10:14am
north guinea hills:

eski beatz
  10:21am
postmanpaul:

some ghislain poirier would be nice, possibly, jason.
  10:26am

  10:30am
It Girl:

Well, why didn't you say so to begin with?
  10:49am
Carmichael:

Good morning, people of the planet. And Jason, it ain't nothin' but a thing.
  11:03am

  11:05am
Carmichael:

Hiya Annie!
  11:07am
Carmichael:

Oh, by the way, it's always heartening to see Aristophanes quoted here (or anywhere). Someone has some Kul-cha!
  11:11am
jason:

  11:14am
north guinea hills:

  11:18am
Coke:

It's the real thing!
  11:19am
Dilara:

it s a thing to not thinkin
  11:23am
hamburger:

  11:24am
Nate in Detroit:

Speaking of Nashville, are any listeners from Nashville or Knoxville? Taking a trip to both cities next week and looking for stuff to keep myself occupied. Any recommendations?
  11:26am
annie:

  11:28am
annie:

  11:29am
hamburger:

  11:30am
Nate in Detroit:

I'll check him out, Annie.
  11:30am
hamburger:

tis a very neat loop :)
  11:31am
annie:

yes, i have two of his blues cds, really great stuff, i heard he turned to folk stuff.. he's a right on dude... or used to be
  11:36am
Carmichael:

@Nate: Go to Gruhn Guitars, even if you don't know how to play. Some amazing old, rare, expensive stuff.
  11:38am
tomasz.:

"extreme dance music...is it a thing?"

oh hell yeh, it's really big in Europe, perhaps unsurprisingly. gabba, speedcore, extratone (the latter is strictly 1,000 bpm+...) a little of it goes a long way, like.
  11:40am
tomasz.:

oh also, annie @09:27... it would be hilariously ironic if the film had been "Lost In Translation"

oh also also, hi Jason! nice show
  11:40am
Nate in Detroit:

Thx, Charmichael, sounds cool.
  11:52am
jason:

hey nate, check out the Grimey's record store...and the Parthenon!
  11:53am
jason:

there's also a very tasty burger place next to the Parthenon...i'm blanking on the name but it's in http://www.roadfood.com/
  11:59am
Nate in Detroit:

Cool, thanks for the tips, Jason, Annie & Charmichael!
