The Paperhead live on WFMU

The Paperhead are a group of teenage psychedelics from Nashville TN. Peter (bass/vox), Walker (drums), Ryan (guitar/vox) hit the road for the first time this summer

The Paperhead's self-titled LP on Trouble In Mind, was produced by Jeffrey Novak (Rat Traps, Cheap Time) and also credits a fourth member named Matt with "colors, spiritual advice."

Formerly known as The Looking Glass, The Paperhead previously released a 7" on Nashville's Dead, and a tape on local label Infinity Cat, "Focus In On... The Looking Glass." The sold-out tape has just been reissued on vinyl by Trouble In Mind's TIM Records imprint

  9:25am
pierre:

i like You
  9:26am
BSI:

Whoa. Not familiar with this YOU. The fact that it's on Bureau B suggests it's another great reissue from early '80s, but sounds like it could be a modern forgery....... and a damn good one at that..... who is you?
  9:29am
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

Hey Jason. Hi everyone. I'm forcing the entire office to listen to the show. appreciate their effort and play them a Merzbow song.
  9:29am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

BSI, "you" appear to be correct
http://synopsiselektronica.blogspot.com/2008/02/you-electric-days.html
  9:31am

That's the spirit
  9:34am
jb:

loud and clear now
  9:34am
pierre:

"know your conjurer" 's great blogspot.
  9:34am
BSI:

Thanks DCE... somehow I missed out on YOU, despite being addicted to that scene since childhood. Had that great Sky label sound. Hastening to yonder download portal, though I'm sure I'll nab the re-issue as well.
  9:34am
jb:

bringing me back to the days of synthetic pleasure!
  9:37am
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

check the FMA link to Black Ceiling. should be http://freemusicarchive.org/search/?quicksearch=BL%2F\CK+CEILING++

  9:46am
jason:

link should work now, thanks Yair
  9:49am
jason:

what's up with bands who have triangles in their name?
  9:50am
Crotchety Old Man:

these damned bands today with all their damned symbols. It's just a gimmick! Back in my day, you had a band, and it had a name you could SAY!
  9:51am
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

what's up with bands who sample When The Levee Breaks drum part?
  9:54am
Memphis Minnie:

Yeah, how dare anyone rip Led Zeppelin off?
  9:56am
Willie Dixon:

just the thought of it makes me ill!
  9:56am
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

Probably didn't pay royalties as well!
  9:57am
pierre:

(just saw Dirty Beaches two days ago, it was great steamy sweaty hot one man rockabilly… good to finally see him live)
  9:57am
Memphis Minnie:

Royalties? What are that? Am I a queen or somethin'?
  9:58am
Jack Folmes:

Got lots of them for my song Graced and Abused, that they covered
  10:00am
Memphis Minnie:

Must be nice, my man.
  10:05am
pierre:

i mean seriously, FMA, how can you be this awesome ?
  10:11am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

love this subtle-touch prog
  10:14am
FMA:

seriously? it's because i floss regularly.
  10:14am
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

That Golden Pavilion label, I should be more alert when they release new reissues
  10:15am
FMA:

and my boyish good looks don't hurt, either.
  10:18am
pierre:

@FMA : i think i should try to start looking a little bit more like you, you eclectic website !
  10:22am
FMA:

merci, merci.
  10:25am
Johnny Hallyday:

Rock music in France? Non, c'est impossible!
  10:30am
pierre:

@Johnny Hallyday : and in Begium ?
  10:31am
J-Mar:

Nashville in the house (and on the comment board)!
  10:32am
Johnny Hallyday:

Les Belgiques. Paaah. I fart on them.
  10:35am
Cheri Pi:

This is just awesome!
  10:36am
Cecile:

Good morning, Free Speechers! Digging what I've heard so far.
  10:37am
pierre:

@ Johnny Halliday : this is why you left, right ? :)
  10:38am
Johnny Hallyday:

That and the alcoholism and everything.
  10:41am
Cheri Pi:

Cecile-we had a great time in Houghton! Especially enjoyed the Keweenaw Brewery, Ambassador & family went gaga for the smoked fish place! Thanks again for those recommendations.
  10:42am
Cheri Pi:

How are these teens so sophisticated in their choice in the Q65 cover???
  10:43am
efd:

Session sounds great, Jason!
  10:44am
Cecile:

Excellent! Ambassador is great, ain't it? So simple yet perfect. And the fish place! So very cool.

Well, Nirvana did dig them. Just saying. God bless Kurt and his eclectic taste.
  10:44am
Tom G:

Cool set. They've been readin their Ugly Things mags.
  10:44am
Cecile:

LOL, tom G. and right on about the sound, efd.
  10:45am
Cheri Pi:

We will definitely go there again, the pizza was so crispy and perfect.
  10:46am
Cecile:

And you must have their sandwiches - ask for the unfortunately named "dago beef". It's thin sliced roast beef in a marinara sauce on a perfect roll. they don't have it on the menu, but they'll kluge it together for you with pizza sauce.
  10:47am
Cecile:

And, you can take your Ambassador pizza over to Keeweenaw. They don't serve food and they are 100% cool with it.
  10:48am
glenn:

kluge? is this a cecile -ism?
  10:50am
Cheri Pi:

I spent so much money at the brewery, favorite pint was their I.P. Eh- came home with t-shirts, stickers and six packs for all my friends... who knew?
  10:50am
Cecile:

No. I learned it from Midwestern engineers.
  10:51am
Cecile:

LOL! I love their PickAxe Blonde.

Kluge just kind of means an improvised repair or creation. You can use it like a noun or verb.
  10:53am
glenn:

ah. thanks for clearing that up. so, jerry rigging, then?
  10:53am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

yes, well, is the g "soft" or "hard"?
  10:54am
GERMAN RODRIGUEZ:

GOOD SHIT, EAR COFFEEEEEE
  10:56am
Cecile:

hard
  10:56am
The G:

That's a bit of a personal question, isn't it?
  10:56am
Cecile:

glenn - exactly.
  10:57am
efd:

I've always heard "kluge" pronounced as a rhyme with "stooge."
  10:58am
Cecile:

yep. that's a hard g, isn't it?
  10:59am
The G:

No, that would be "guh"
  10:59am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

no, that's soft.
  10:59am
efd:

I think of a hard g as like the g in "gorilla." For example.

Or, the ratings standard for the Best Show.
  11:00am
Cecile:

Okay, so it's a "j" style G then. That's a soft G?

(no linguist, I)
  11:01am
efd:

Just to make things more confusing, in the '70s/'80s there was a media mogul named John Kluge, but his name was pronounced "kloo-ghee."
  11:02am
glenn:

In order to clear up confusion, he changed his name to rupert murdoch.
  11:03am
glenn:

i made that up.
  11:08am
Cecile:

-wood is becoming as cliche as -gate.
  11:11am
jupe:

thanks for Paperhead live set & interview, Jason. they are a very promising young band
  11:13am
glenn:

which reminds me - since bombay is now mumbai, why isn't bollywood called mumblywood?
  11:15am
REM:

This one goes out to the one I love
  11:16am
Earl Klugh:

You want confusion?
  11:22am
Cliche:

If there was a big enough film-industry scandal, they could call it Hollywoodgate.
  11:23am
glenn:

oh, cliche.
  11:28am
mark:

This Coulter premium is GREAT!
  11:28am
J J:

I'm surprised they haven't started renaming or rebranding city names in the US. Or corporate sponsored city names.
  11:31am
glenn:

hey, toronto's new mayor wants to sell subway stations off for branding by corporations.
  11:32am
glenn:

then again, he's a moron, so........
  11:32am
A certain sandwich company:

I like the sound of that: "Subway Station: Eat Fresh"
  11:34am
pierre:

love this Dave Cloud & The Gospel of Power ;)
  11:34am
don:

awesome -- when ken played "spanky spank" yesterday i couldn't stop laughing about it for hours
  11:34am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

yeah, it's only a matter of time until Cleveland becomes Progressive's Cleveland Muni Unit 1.
  11:35am
A certain zombie bank:

Hmm, "New York Citibank, NY". Not bad.
  11:37am
glenn:

i just found out the other day that margaret thatcher helped develop soft ice cream, so now i have to boycott dairy queen.
  11:38am
Liz the Second:

There's only one Dairy Queen in this jurisdiction, and it ain't Maggie.
  11:38am
J J:

No one should support any kind of dairy monarchy. Power to the people!
  11:39am
Liz the Second:

Milk it, JJ
  11:40am
J J:

If I cud, I would.
  11:41am
Liz the Second:

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. See, I really *am* an old cow!
  11:43am
glenn:

margaret thatcher est un vache.
  11:44am
glenn:

sorry - une.
  11:44am
Francophone:

vachement vrai!
  11:45am
pierre:

aawww friends
  11:47am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

one of the benefits of following the comment board is learning french and french slang
  11:48am
glenn:

vrai cela. ha ha.
  11:50am
Francophone:

I learned a lot of my French slang from reading the subtitles of Hollywood movies shown on French TV while I was there O:-)
  11:51am
glenn:

or is it cela vrai?
  11:52am
pierre:

the same for me with american/british slang.
  11:53am
pierre:

(@ glenn : you could say, "c'est vrai cela" or "c'est vrai ça" or again just "c'est vrai")
  11:53am
glenn:

nouns aren't that difficult. it's everything else that kills me.
  11:53am
Francophone:

Yep, definitely works. Just listen for the cool phrases in your native language, and jot down how they did it in the subtitles.
  11:54am
pierre:

@ glenn : it kills french to.
  11:56am
glenn:

i remember in grade 5, a french canadian family moved to my small town. all the kids failed french. well, and english too.
  11:57am
ralf:

great show!
greetings from frankfurt/germany.
  11:57am
BSI:

Turned my back for a minute. Came back to this jibbering madness. I approve of this jibbering madness.
