Listener comments!

  3:04am
e:

hello. whre can I find this seals record? tnxx
  3:06am
Malach:

greetings. great start to the set!
  3:11am
Amanda:

Hi e and Malach! As far as that seals record goes, I have now given you all the info I have! But I'll talk a bit about it when I am announcing the set.
  3:31am
Malach:

what was the name of the song playing in the background?
  3:37am
Amanda:

That was an organ medley of "Pretty Flamingo" and a couple of other songs, played by Martin Lane. :-)
  3:40am
Malach:

aha i knew i heard the melody before, i just couldn't think of the words. i'm familiar with the manfred mann version of the song.
  3:41am
Malach:

thanks!
  3:45am
Amanda:

You are very welcome. I usually don't indicate what the background music is, but I'm flattered you asked.
  4:01am
Marmalade kitty:

G'morning Amanda! Groovy Happy Monday to y'all!
  4:02am
luh3417:

now didn't the vinyl album cover of shoot out at the fantasy factory have a cut corner?
  4:06am
luh3417:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoot_Out_at_the_Fantasy_Factory IT DID :-)
  4:10am
hamburger:

hey / just tuned in - this ain't the frow show / what has the station done with jesse? :)
  4:14am
T-Zero:

The girls of Avenue D kidnapped him
  4:15am
Amanda:

luh3417 -- Yes, it does have a cut corner! Just like The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. :-)

hamburger/T-Zero -- I am going to get to the bottom of this.
  4:16am
mchuge:

why all the sad classic rock? got any sad punk rock like the stranglers? well just looking for some great power pop i guess. or stranglers.
  4:18am
Amanda:

Hey what's wrong with sad classic rock??? I will see if I can locate some sad power pop eventually
  4:21am
mchuge:

I was going to say happy krautrock but this almost happy krautrock. You just keep on keeping me awake. :D
  4:23am
T-Zero:

This is one of the very few songs where I actually like the covers better than the original.
  4:25am
hamburger:

just wiki'd this.. leonard nimoy even did a cover!
  4:28am
mchuge:

Jimmy Webb: almost as fascinating as Lee Hazlewood. Always feeling weird talking about dead people.
  4:30am
Amanda:

Haha, I wish I had the Nimoy version to play tonight, 'cause he's alive. @mchuge: It is my honor; nay, my duty, to keep you awake!!!
  4:30am
T-Zero:

@hamburger: Not that I don't like Newman. But even Nimoy would be better than Randy Newman's original.
  4:34am
mchuge:

omg, terry reid. what a story. thanks for playing that.
  4:42am
hamburger:

humm these bubble sounds are quite jesse-esque :)
  4:42am
Amanda:

I did not mean to suggest that Randy Newman is dead. He is alive.
  4:44am
Amanda:

@mchuge -- aw, you're all right.

Hey, I almost neglected to say hi to Marmalade Kitty! Hi MK!!!
  4:47am
T-Zero:

Hmm. I've not checked out the alternate streams. Will have to look into that.
  4:49am
mchuge:

oh hell, i forgot glenn branca had vocals. did you see the bang on a can marathon performance?
  4:51am
Marmalade kitty:

thank God for the Pixies
  4:56am
Amanda:

@T-Zero -- They are all great! I think you will like what you hear.

@mchuge -- no, I did not! But did think you'd like that Branca.

@Marmalade Kitty -- yes. There is an artist here in town who has a show on now with pieces all based on Pixies songs.
  4:57am
T-Zero:

@Amanda: This is a generalized question unrelated to anyting played. Does the FCC restricted web cast only shows like they do FM?
  4:59am
Amanda:

Nope, they don't!
  5:00am
Marmalade kitty:

I never do this..I've just eaten me an English breakfast fit for a King! Don't know where you people put such a substantial snack! I need to go out and chop some trees!
  5:01am
mchuge:

@T-zerp WFMU has two or three (2-3) separate webcast that allow cussing and whatever. FCC does restrict shows that also go out over the airwaves but not over the internet. The current show is on the radio.
  5:02am
T-Zero:

@Amanda: Ok. Thanks. Was just wondering because I listen to a lot of non-us broadcasts and things get played I never hear anywhere else, but thought it was because in the US most are both web and FM.
  5:07am
Marmalade kitty:

@Amanda: that sounds interesting. There's a guy in manchester who tours a Morrissey Disco night, playing only Morrissey and the smiths all night! ..he even looks like Mozza. Amazing and exhausting!
  5:16am
Amanda:

MK, that DOES sound exhausting! @T-Zero -- mchuge is 100% right!
  5:21am
Marmalade kitty:

..only for hard core all things moz fans!
Amanda, Whats the pixies/artist name you mentioned?
  5:22am
T-Zero:

@Amanda: The main WFMU schedule . . . I listen to almost all of the shows, especially the morning web only programs. I figured it was because of the simulcast programming things get restricted in the US where simulcast necessarily isn't elsewhere, not just at WFMU, but wasn't sure how "loose" the US stream only was.
  5:24am
Amanda:

Her name is Kayt Hester, her art show is up now here in Jersey City. It's awesome.
  5:27am
Amanda:

@-T-Zero happy to clear that up for you (if it is, in fact, cleared up)! Fortunately or unfortunately, everything we broadcast on the air is under FCC rule, but everything that doesn't go on an air signal isn't.
  5:32am
T-Zero:

@Amanda. Yep. All clear.

I keep a really *really* erratic schedule (Awake, sleep a few hours, eat, sleep a few hours, repeat lol ) so am listening to web broadcast (simulcast or not) almost around the clock.
  5:34am
Elwyn:

Wow. I could never imagine abandoning my music collection, especially to any of my ex-housemates. Some were great; some were complete jerks who wouldn't appreciate it.
  5:38am
Amanda:

Elwyn -- I know! I think this person had a great many other records and just happened to forget these.
  5:38am
mchuge:

oh gosh. tennesse ernie and hank thompson. best cheesy western dudes ever. (I separate country from western)
  5:38am
Marmalade kitty:

Thanks, Just looked at the Kayt Hestor article @N.J.com.. Love the masking tape Eiffel Tower..etc Fantastic!
  5:40am
Marmalade kitty:

Alec Eiffel :)
  5:47am
jim:

Darn. I had no idea that was Theresa Brewer
  5:48am
Amanda:

MK -- I know, she is unique and great! Glad you like. mchuge -- I am inclined to agree...
  5:51am
mchuge:

There is a good history of county artists covering soul tunes and vice versa. The whole shebang is controversial and I do not presume to make this a spot to talk about it. I think it's all good.
  5:51am
hamburger:

ou Nick..
  5:57am
mchuge:

hope sandoval has two solo records I think? that i have never heard. whatevs. thank you ms scenario nazario
  5:57am
John McCabe in LA:

Hi everybody
  5:58am
Elwyn:

I don't listen to my Mazzy Star album enough. :-(

Hey John!
  6:00am
T-Zero:

Take care, all.
  6:05am
Amanda:

Hi and bye, John! Thanks so much everyone, catch you all next time.
  7:01pm
Listener Schned:
