Listener comments!

  11:14am
Van in DC:

I just want to be the first to say that I was the first to say this today. And I am now feeling more like myself now than when i came in. I'll be all better though in about three hours and forty-six minutes. Hi.
  11:27am
Chris P.:

So judging by the progress bar, Amanda kicked quite the amount of ass during her marathon shows! Her music demands the big bucks, which is why I'm dubbing her Queen Money,
  11:32am
Doug S.:

Didja catch Amanda's spectacular Hoof 'n' Mouth performance? A showstopper:

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/20892804 (at about 47:00)
  11:40am
pgw in mntclr:

she seriously took over the room... truly awesome.
  11:47am
glenn:

amanda nazario - the x ray burns of ummm errr, well, something.
  11:55am
Record Rich from Vinylville...:

Hey…do not mock X.Ray Burns…let's see you drink that much Scotch and still function in a professional manner (albeit shirtless and wearing a kilt!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
Amanda:

The amount of scotch consumed is directly proportional to the amount of nudity. glenn, that you would call me the X. Ray Burns of anything thrills me to the core!
  11:58am
glenn:

meh. scotch. give me jameson's any day.
  12:02pm
glenn:

venus is not an easy tune to play. how long did it take to work that up?
  12:04pm
Chris P.:

True story: I saw her perform Venus live, and during the chorus, she exploded my head just by pointing at it. THAT was how powerful her performance was!
  12:10pm
erella in toronto:

This is so great. What ever happened to Gilbert O Sullivan? I did like his song, Alone Again Naturaly when I was a pouting pre teen. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Amanda:

You guys, thank you! I had so much fun -- rehearsed only twice with the band, but they'd been working on it for weeks beforehand. And I love that song, so the cues were kind of second nature.

Hi erella! Nice to hear from you -- I know, I am a big fan of Alone Again Naturally too.
  12:13pm
listener james from westwood:

w0000000t! a happy marathon afterglow to ya, amanda, and to the entire stream cast and crew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Amanda:

Hey -- I couldn't hear my own mic at the beginning of the show. Could you guys hear me? I am pretty sure I was just speaking into the wrong mic.
  12:15pm
Chris P.:

This set is putting me in the mood to listen to my 2 favorite soundtracks featuring soul/funk: Dead Presidents & Jackie Brown. No non-blaxsploitation soundtrack comes close to those two.
  12:15pm
listener james from westwood:

this is why i pledge to wfmu: a dive into the buggles' catalog past the (nonetheless awesome) "video killed the radio star."
  12:16pm
Chris P.:

Oh wait snap...I have the wrong feed going...D'OH!
  12:17pm
Van in DC:

@Chris - I was wondering what was wrong with my audio too.
  12:17pm
Record Rich from Vinylville...:

Speaking of wrong feeds…Duane's killer "Careless Whisper" almost rivaled "Venus"…almost….
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Amanda:

OK -- stream mixups aside, I may have a technical problem with my mic. So when I come on and talk, if you can't hear me, I will just muddle through...

AGREED on Duane's song! He killed it!
  12:20pm
Chris P.:

At first I was like "man, Amanda sure is taking quite the detour with her setlist today...an awesome detour, but one nonetheless!"

But regardless, pick up the Dead Presidents and Jackie Brown soundtracks for the best soul/funk.
  12:21pm
Van in DC:

I left my popup playing running from before, when I went for a walk around the national mall, and didn't even notice until you mentioned wrong feed, Chris :)
  12:23pm
Chris P.:

I hear you just fine!
  12:23pm
Van in DC:

Loud and clear Amanda
  12:23pm
Doug S.:

Wrong feed, wrong mic — right Amanda!!
  12:31pm
Chris P.:

It was an amazing performance...I just wish that you didn't have to sacrifice me to the rock gods during it. Being dead sucks.
  12:31pm
Skirkie:

Rock star: http://www.flickr.com/photos/irene_trudel/6956478659/
  12:32pm
Danne D:

Amanda :) 4 years from the back of the room to the front of the room for Hoof N Mouth - you were fantastic Sunday Night :D
  12:32pm
glenn:

hahaha. long tailed cat..... i say that all the time.
  12:38pm
Skirkie:

I was JUST THINKING I needed to hear Rye Coalition today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Amanda:

Awesome, Skirkie -- thanks for the mind meld.
  12:50pm
glenn:

how come snooki wasn't at the h & m? i thought she had an open ended invite from ken to do anything she wants at wfmu?
  12:51pm
Chris P.:

This is, like, primo 90s alt rock. It reminds me of this radio station I used to listen to here in NY that was based in the Hudson Valley. Can't remember the call letters though...
  12:51pm
Danne D:

I love New Lace Sleeves :)
  12:52pm
Minnesota Jeff:

Ha, are you singing along to this?!
  12:52pm
Danne D:

were I in the car, there'd be 3 of us singing, but alas I'm at my desk
  12:52pm
Skirkie:

Remember Glenn, Maxwell's is in Hoboken. They're not allowed to set foot in Hoboken.
  12:52pm
Record Rich from Vinylville...:

This can be the B-Side to your "Venus" seven-inch! And it's exclusively sold at Table E-10 come November!!!
  12:52pm
Danne D:

@Minny Jeff - one of the delightful aspects of Amanda's show
  12:53pm
Minnesota Jeff:

Awesome!
  12:53pm
Van in DC:

Double dose of live Amanda in one week. Great week! :)
  12:54pm
Chris P.:

The B-side to Amanda's Hoof N' Mouth performance!
  1:01pm
Chris P.:

I have this John Doe record that's clear vinyl...it's very cool, but it's almost impossible to put it on a particular song.
  1:02pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
  1:02pm
Chris P.:

Hay.
  1:03pm
Danne D:

Hey
  1:03pm
listener james from westwood:

howdy ndbob!
  1:05pm
Van in DC:

I have heard of this "Snooki" person. I've thankfully managed to avoid any direct contact with her. Isn't she just one of those people who are famous for being famous, kind of like the Kardashians, whom I also have luckily avoided? But hey, if she is a WFMU fan, I guess she can't be all bad.
  1:07pm
Doug S.:

Live radio flavor—now with no MSG!
  1:08pm
conrad:

its a person on 'jersey shore', van. i think she has a novel to her name, as well.
  1:10pm
listener james from westwood:

or a novel with her name, at least.
  1:11pm
glenn:

she's written more books than she's read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm
Amanda:

Hi ndbob! I'd like to also extend hello's to everyone else on the playlist who I didn't say hello to before.

Snooki is now living 2 blocks from me. I haven't seen her, just a mess of cops and paparazzi outside there. I hear she's a pretty nice gal.
  1:11pm
Danne D:

@Van might need a blood test from you regarding "direct contact"

Amanda plays probably the highest percentage of stuff that I'd probably play if I had a show :)
  1:13pm
Danne D:

Hmm, now I might have to watch JS to see if there's any random AmNazz appearances in the background. About the only thing that show would be good for IMO.
  1:13pm
Chris P.:

The Sonic Youth show I saw over the summer remains one of my favorite shows ever...mostly because of the 3 extended encores they did, with the last one just consisting of them making noise and going mad on stage.
  1:14pm
Danne D:

I literally have watch like 3 minutes of Jersey Shore ever. These are people I avoided in high school, don't see the appeal in watching them on tv.
  1:14pm
Danne D:

(I mean at least Beavis and Butthead had a plot)
  1:15pm
Chris P.:

Oh my god...I've been combing the ends of the earth for the SOOL EP that features Galaxy Gramophone...it's one of my favorite songs, with one of my favorite opening salvos.
  1:15pm
Van in DC:

Reality show stars? Hmmm. Well, I do watch Ice Road Truckers, and Lisa Kelly is pretty hot AND nice. Give me Discovery/History channel reality shows any day over any others.
  1:15pm
pgw in mntclr:

yeah, my friend lives on Wayne. she's mostly upset by fewer potential parking spaces in the vicinity of her apartment.
  1:17pm
Danne D:

was into Ice Road Truckers, but it's kinda all the same after a while. Of course then Scharpling had to get me all watching that Storage Wars show - I'm still waiting for the perfect episode when all 4 vultures lose money.
  1:18pm
Danne D:

anyhow, time for lunch :) will be back to listen but will fall off the comments (I really need to cut down). Looking forward to this hour on archives and next hour live. Have a great day everyone :)
  1:21pm
glenn:

i've been on an ice road. it was nerve wracking.
  1:21pm
Chris P.:

I watched Hell's Kitchen for an entire season just so I could take a tally of the number of times that Gordon Ramsey yelled "RAW!!!"
  1:23pm
listener james from westwood:

that "manos: the hands of fate" ref got a big lol outta me. epic mst ep.
  1:24pm
ndbob:

Manos is pretty amazing - almost on a level of ineptness by itself.
  1:25pm
Chris P.:

"Hitting the Thighmaster, Torgo?" :)
  1:26pm
Eugene:

I hope every Manos fan already knows about this: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1325482813/manos-the-restoration?ref=live
  1:27pm
conrad:

maybe after its restored, every shot wont look like someone's last known photo.
  1:28pm
Chris P.:

I would love it if Boston hailed from, like, Duluth Minnesota or some random city like that.
  1:29pm
ndbob:

cover of a Harvey Scales song here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
Amanda:

ndbob, that's-a right.
  1:34pm
glenn:

i remember elvis costello being interviewed on c.b.c. a few years back. the interviewer made some derogatory remark about j. geils and more or less expected him to agree. she was taken aback when he said peter wolf was a good friend and that he quite liked j. geils.
  1:35pm
glenn:

not terre t's show.
  1:37pm
SteveL:

You don't have to love the J. Giles Band to admit that they are quite good at what they do. (I like them just fine.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Amanda:

I totally like them -- sorry if I seemed to take a derogatory tone at any point there!
  1:47pm
Chris P.:

I like it...Amanda's going heavy on the blues and jazz on this set!
  1:56pm
glenn:

nope. no tone taken. merely an anecdote, sort of illustrating the hipster "cooler than thou" mindset.
  1:56pm
john:

What's the music you're talking over, Amanda?
  1:58pm
Van in DC:

ha, I asked the exact question before about this same music john :)
  1:58pm
Chris P.:

You ever see the guy who pantomimes the entire "Torn" song? It's quite hysterical.
  2:00pm
Doug S.:

I person the stream, Amanda. No need to get gender-specific.
  2:01pm
Van in DC:

Saw a lady dog walking on the mall yesterday, with like 15 dogs split between her two hands. What a sight. Should have snapped a pic :)
  2:01pm
NYC canine society:

Hurry up Amanda! We need you. Really NEED you!
  2:02pm
Chris P.:

Does your business card say "Amanda Nazario: Punk Rock Dog Walker"?
  2:02pm
Record Rich from Vinylville...:

Tom Clack? As in Clack Studios?
  2:02pm
Doug S.:

I have to run out and buy 3/4 lb of poblano chiles, Amanda. I hope you'll understand.

HEY EVERYBODY
Listen for Amanda, live on WFMU and the stream around 10am this coming Friday!!!

@Record Rich -- yes, the same. He is my stepfather! Do you know him/them?
  2:04pm
Guessing:

It says something like: "Amanda Nazario: Extremely Trustworthy, Responsible, Dog-Loving Dog Walker"
  2:04pm
Record Rich from Vinylville...:

I worked at MTV for 10 years and we did a lot of work at Clack...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm

Doug -- have a spicy time! See you Friday. :-)
  2:05pm
listener james from westwood:

I would watch a reality show entitled "Punk Rock Dog Walker."
  2:05pm
glenn:

my name is jimmy reed, and i approve this message.
  2:05pm
listener james from westwood:

Doug, you had me at 3/4 lb. of poblanos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
Amanda:

I haven't made business cards yet, even! I am a slacker dog walker. But I have thought of drawing a picture of a dog wearing headphones.
  2:08pm
Doug S.:

And when I worked with Steve Stein ("Steinski"), he was doing MTV radio commercials. A couple of floors below us in the same building was the beloved Tom Pomposello who wrote jingles and such for Nickelodeon. (R.I.P. Tom.) WFMU DJ Belinda (Greasy Kid Stuff) Miller ran Tom's office for a while.
  2:10pm
glenn:

does anybody besides me want to know what the d.j.s day jobs are?
  2:10pm
SteveL:

Great Dex Romweber album. Great live act.
  2:10pm
Record Rich from Vinylville...:

@ Doug - to extend the "degrees of separation" a bit more….Steinski was supposed to buy the house next door to mine in Nutley two or there years back, which X.Ray appraised for him, but that deal fell through…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Amanda:

Smallest world in the world. We were good friends with Tom and I still have his WBAI shows on tape. Rich, I bet you and I have many acquaintances in common too... not to namedrop, I just think it's cool and kind of no accident that we all ended up here.
  2:12pm
G:

Some are editors or writers, some work in music, some are in another creative type area, some do office work, some have flexi hours of various kinds, etc. Many of them touch on or allude to their paid jobs every so often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Amanda:

SteveL -- I just saw the Dex Romweber Duo! They ruled!
  2:14pm

I always find it cool that the djs have these second lives/jobs...gives me hope :)

Record Rich from Vinylville...:

Hasil is God! Just sayin'….
  2:18pm
SteveL:

Dex's sister, (Sarah?) is an ANIMAL on the drums, but so small. Looking for them to cruise midwest again soon.
  2:22pm
Van in DC:

So Amanda, you'll be on Doug's GTDS show Friday then?
  2:22pm
listener james from westwood:

"white light white meat" is like a 3rd-order music geekiness/wfmu lis'ner title. love it.
  2:22pm
Randy in NC:

Tom Pomposello? Back at the start of the '70's he ran a record store in Huntington Village, LI called Kropotkin Records. It was the place for high school hippies to hang out. He had some link with Mississippi Fred McDowell too as I recall.
  2:26pm
glenn:

somebody said about phil collins yesterday "he's an animal on drums but a scooter on vocals".
  2:27pm
Chris P.:

I feel like I should play this song when I'm sad, and sitting on the roof staring up at the full moon. It just seems right.
  2:28pm
Randy in NC:

There is a Sara Romweber listed as a therapist in Chapel Hill on my health plan. How many Sara Romweber's could there be?
  2:31pm
glenn:

that's her. she's a p.h.d. too. it don't stand for post hole digger, to paraphrase fred eaglesmith.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Amanda:

LJ, agreed about that title. Billy Miller of Norton is a genius for that kind of pun-based humor. (Or so they say.) Randy -- YES on Kropotkin Records! How nuts. He played lots and lots of Fred MacDowell on his blues show but I don't know their connection. As for Sara R, talk about having an interesting day job.
  2:36pm
Randy in NC:

@Amanda, I guess with that kind of day job you can adjust your schedule so that you can go out on the road.
  2:40pm
Chris P.:

It just goes to show that the cool creative types can come from all types of walks of life...my favorite was Roger Corman, who was an engineer before directing.
  2:41pm
Van in DC:

Abba!
  2:43pm
SteveL:

See, I don't like ABBA, UNLESS it fits in well, which this does. Should I be afraid?
  2:44pm
Van in DC:

I really liked that whole last set.
  2:45pm
Van in DC:

I've always loved Abba, myself.
  2:46pm
listener james from westwood:

a great show, amanda. glad i didn't have my usual wed. conference call drowning it out. the scenario is a volume-friendly program.
  2:46pm

I need to go....excellent show Amanda!
  2:48pm

what van said.
