listener james from westwood:

HI WENDY!!!! And hi Carmichael, john, James, Skirkie, and everyone. EFD -- I just took a pen and circled where it says "45RPM" on the sleeve. :-)

  12:19pm
listener james from westwood:

hell, if i get to test-listen to them to verify the written speed, i'll do that pro bono.
  12:19pm
Carmichael:

I've prrofed many a label in my day. They were all affixed to bottles. And they all had proofs written on them.
  12:20pm
BDR:

Thank you. I hadn't listened to Joan in a couple of years. Please "Drop the Pilot" on my some time in the coming Wednesdays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm

Hey, you're welcome BDR, and I will try to do so!

LJfW -- those were both my own records, which makes it yet more hilarious.

Who is this "Walter" Carlos you played? Any relation to Wendy Carlos?

You're right, I should credit it to Wendy even though certain places online say Walter
  1:05pm

this sounds like ken's seven minutes in deadwood edit (needs more "cs'er"s for that)

Mark 2 Cortina. Nice motor.

It's not safe for you yet, Van.

Which Listen link are you referring to. The one on this page works and the one given on the front page at wfmu.org works, too.

NO! Don't talk wistfully of Carroll Gardens. My old neighborhood. I miss it.
  1:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

Nuts, missed the dirty version of something Alexei Sayle!

Hello everyone!
  1:25pm
Van in DC:

Hiya Matt! Did you see Discovery yesterday? It was quite the awesome sight :)
  1:29pm
?:

Off Wikipedia:

Before Italian-Americans settled in the area, Carroll Gardens was settled by Irish Americans in the early 19th century and, in the mid-19th century, by Norwegian-Americans, who founded the Norwegian Seamens' Church, an imposing brownstone structure that was once visited by the King of Norway during an official visit to the United States, and which still stands (although it is now a residential condominium) on the corner of First Place and Clinton Street.

I wasn't aware that there was a Norwegian community there once.
  1:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

I knew of it, but was stuck in my building--my Mom didn't while at her preschool, but another class who was outside saw it.
  1:30pm
Hugo:

Forgot to put a name on that post.
  1:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

There's some scenic shots of it from the ground at The Mall area, is that where you saw it?
  1:31pm
Van in DC:

ya, I was pretty close to the Smithsonian metro entrance on the Mall. ...or right about at the bottom right of this photo :)

  1:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Hugo: The Scandinavians generally have seamans churches in major ports throughout the world. Even if there's no ethnic community there you can still find churches set up by their seamans unions.
  1:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sweet photo Van! It's nice when you can have your own public affairs photographers (and aircraft!) :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
Amanda:

Hi Hugo! Thanks for the info about Doug's old nabe. :-) Norwegians are evrywhere!
  1:36pm
Hugo:

The Norwegian ex-pat community was later associated with the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn, though I suspect they are fully assimilated these days (and moved to the suburbs). I have a PhD dissertation from the late 50s when there was still a sense of community left. These days they probably only assemble for national day celebrations.
  1:37pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Dammit, I was at lunch and missed The Young Ones/Damned clip. My favorite show! So glad you played it, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Amanda:

Argh! Wendy -- I talked also about how it's so hard to find them on YouTube anymore. Glad I have the DVDs. :-)
  1:39pm
Hugo:

@Amanda: True, these days you'll find them in droves in the Costa Blanca region of the Spanish east coast.
  1:41pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Oh no, I didn't realize The Young Ones had been pulled off YouTube. Phooey.
  1:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Wendy: Yes, I need to go back and listen! Also the Young Fresh Fellows, Cotton Mather, the Meat Puppets, lots of groups I like today.

As for the Clockwork Orange, it would be acceptable to label the artist as "Walter Carlos" if it was from the LP, which was written as Walter back in '71. He made the switch to a she shortly after, and publicly used the name Wendy from here on out. I myself file all her music under "Wendy Carlos", so if it's a CD or reissue, that would be the proper way to record her name.
  1:46pm
Danne D:

@efd made a Family Circus in this comments page. That's a pretty amazing thing.
  1:48pm
Van in DC:

Sounds like a cross between David Lee Roth and Stephen Tyler :)
  1:50pm
Gaylord Fields:

Danne, you should see the circuitous route full of distractions that efd takes to get to the station every Wednesday night. It's like he can't travel in a straight line.
  1:51pm
Ida Know:

Why does efd do that????
  1:53pm
Van in DC:

Always good to vary routes and times. Never know who's tracking you ;)
  1:53pm
Gaylord Fields:

I think he's trying to dodge this old man in a long robe with wings attached who seems to be stalking him.
  1:54pm
Doug S.:

In today's Motherlode post in Beware of the Blog, I link to a site that has offered Walter Carlos's "Sonic Seasonings" Here is the download link for it:

This is the page offering the LP: http://bit.ly/HI6wkw

@Gaylord: My mind doesn't travel in a straight line either!
  1:58pm
Skirkie:

Zelda 2 sucked.

Is Michael Penn married to Aimee Mann?
  2:03pm

Yes, Brian, since the late 90s, and currently live in LA, quoth wikipedia.org

And I'll take the low road!

Danne D is singing along to this part
  2:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: I've noticed how "Gen X" your playlists are--plenty of 70s 80s and 90s rock selections every show. The station should give you an award for "Best Gen X DJ"!
  2:13pm
Danne D:

AmNazz featuring the best of the 70s 80s 90s...and today! :)
  2:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Now I can imagine "Jam Productions" doing a commercial radio style jingle:
The Naz-ar-i-o Scen-ar-i-o! G-T-D-S! :)
  2:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

AmNazz in the afternoon!
  2:18pm
Danne D:

Gotta love AmNazz going from Poison to Dylan in the space of 4 songs :)
  2:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

Love this one! Good choice for singing to!
  2:19pm
Brian in UK:

Thanks G.

AmNazz? Is that a motor, John?
  2:20pm

for a second, i thought this was some dylan outtake with doubletracked vocals
  2:21pm
Danne D:

What is the innocence-scorn exchange rate this days?
  2:22pm
Van in DC:

Encore
  2:22pm
Danne D:

Ya know that'd be a neat premium - Amanda's Greatest Hits featuring all your favorite sing-along-with-Amanda moments :)
  2:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

Innocence:Scorn, I believe is All your Innocence, for a Heap of Scorn (US)...
  2:26pm
Carmichael:

Mitch Miller's got nothing on you, Amanda.
  2:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Best Of her show sing-alongs, along with Bonus sing-alongs never streamed before!
  2:28pm
Danne D:

and now a cover of the Velvets :)
  2:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

A cover I've never heard before either! It's wonderful!
  2:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: I make one exception for Mitch's group rendition of "Give Peace A Chance" however; it's earned its way to the Golden Throats comp. That's "fame" in a WFMU way...
  2:31pm
Van in DC:

Love Tori!
  2:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

Reminds me of "Going where the chilly winds don't blow". Having no depression plus no chilly winds is even better!
  2:34pm
pgw in mntclr:

i saw her in 1992 or 93 when i was a freshman in college. it was in a small venue that i could walk to, and the tickets were $6... didn't realize how good i had it.
  2:44pm
efd:

Still my favorite Supremes song, probably because the 45 was in the house when I was a kid.
  2:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Jr. Walker and the All-Stars!
This was always a great one to me, but I never remembered the title. The sax riff was distinctive enough for me (much like "Baker Street" or "Careless Whisper" when I was younger!)
  2:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

Stylistics trying to go disco? :)
  2:51pm
Gaylord Fields:

Hey, Amanda! What are you up to this Sunday evening? Anything radio-related (I ask mock-unknowingly)?
  2:52pm
Skirkie:

Quick search and... yes, that's the first time Strong Bad has ever been played on WFMU. By the way, them results go up FAST.
  2:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Stylistics > miscue > Strongbad > Ray Davies!! You can't find a better 2 minutes of music sequencing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Amanda:

I didn't have anything on my schedule, I don't think... er... OH MY GOD WAIT!
  2:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Skirkie: Well, the first time someone's playlisted that they've played Strongbad anyway.

(Thunk Tank uses a Strongbad clip for their listener emails segment).
  2:55pm
listener james from westwood:

o to live in a world when that song could sing proudly from any radio unedited. cthulhu bless the drummer stream!
  2:55pm
Skirkie:

Oh yeah, I heard that before.
  2:56pm
listener james from westwood:

the day i take off points for miscues is the day i sprout wings and fly to jupiter. rock on.
adored the show. my client will thank you.
  2:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: I'm a perfectionist, I would really beat myself up over mistakes too. We just want you to know that it's not that bad, in fact little mistakes are amusing to us listeners!
  2:57pm
Van in DC:

You can leave the Alexei Sayle at home Sunday I think :)

Enjoyed, thanks Amanda!

Hi, Naz. Listening to the archive at work. I usually just keep it low and count on the fact that I'm alone in this office, but I had to skp past the Alexei Sayle. There's only so much I can ask my co workers to overlook.
