listener james from westwood:

perfect timing on your tweet; just went to twitter to see if there might be a link. howdy amanda and good wednesday, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am
Amanda:

Howdy to you yourself, Listener James! I wonder what havoc we can wreak today with Doug on vacation.
  11:51am
listener james from westwood:

the stream is your oyster! or the shellfish of your choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
Amanda:

Wow, it sure didn't take us long to get back there.
  11:56am
listener james from westwood:

food and drink are never far from the drummer stream. plus you do have a lunch slot. at least for us eastern seaboard types. :)
  12:01pm
SteveL:

Yea! In at the start! Two hours? Perfect. I have to shuffle off at 2 anyway. (Its all about me.)
  12:03pm
Carmichael:

Hi Amanda. Hi everyone.
  12:04pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda, the world is your lobster. Precipitation city over here.
Hello james, nose to the proverbial?
  12:05pm
northguineahills:

The UK should send some of its rain across the pond.
  12:07pm
Brian in UK:

ngh, just the man, reference to the other week USA & Joe Byrd. I was playing Phil Ochs Crucifiction the other day and remembered that Joe Byrd did the electronical bits.
  12:07pm
kat330:

Ah! This cover brought me running from the kitchen. The original of "Tell Him" was mind-blowing to me as a kid. Love it!
  12:08pm
kat330:

Greets, Amanda and listeners!
  12:10pm
Brian in UK:

hello kat330 was it Billie something?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Amanda:

Hello you chaps! I'm OK with another thunderstorm like the one we had Sunday night... Kat330, so glad you enjoyed that cover. I agree, that song is very important.
  12:11pm
kat330:

I'm not sure, Brian. But the pizzicato strings and shifts from major to minor -- dazzled this youngun. :)
  12:12pm
listener james from westwood:

yes indeed, brian; nose to the stone and sparks everywhere!
  12:12pm
northguineahills:

@Brian in the UK: Really? I had no idea. I need to go dig that up. I obviously hadn't read the liner notes thoroughly. For those of us in the US, that recent Phil Ochs documentary is on NetFlix.
  12:15pm
Brian in UK:

ngh it will never make it over here, only be region 1. Really peeved. Looks like it is a belter even though I probably know most of the info.
  12:19pm
Carmichael:

Talkin' bout There But For the Fortune documentary? It's a wonderful piece of film-making.
  12:21pm
Danne D:

Yay Amanda :)
Hi folks :)
Busy but wanted to say hi :)
  12:21pm
northguineahills:

I saw the Ochs doc in the theater (Anthology Film Archives), in was pretty awesome, and heartbreaking at the same time. It pretty much echoed the Schumacher bio of Ochs.
  12:21pm
Danne D:

There But For Fortune was awesome
  12:22pm
northguineahills:

Yesly, Carmichael.
  12:22pm
BDR:

Please play the O'Jay's Love Train. I haven't heard it in 45 minutes.
  12:23pm
Danne D:

Also it led to my favorite twitter exchange - Chuck D = Ochs fan. Makes a lot of sense when you really think about it.
  12:26pm
Brian in UK:

Will you lot stop teasing me with this Ochs info. Thank you.
  12:26pm
northguineahills:

That does make sense. Chuck D has quite a noggin on him. His essays make for good reads. He penned a few for the Illegal Arts exhibition in 2004 that were great.
  12:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

Only till 2? Ducking out early for martinis with Duane? ;)

Hi Amanda! Hey everyone!
  12:30pm
kat330:

Matthew!
  12:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

Kat(hleen, I believe?)!
  12:33pm
kat330:

You got it! No one actually calls me kat -- not even JT -- but it's stuck here with me at FMU. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Amanda:

Thanks for reminding me that the martini session is happening! No, it's for a much less fun, though dog-related, reason.
  12:33pm
Brian in UK:

Did anyone see the 1984 biopic Chords of Fame, which featured Bill Burnett as Ochs? He made a passable PO.
  12:35pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda Martini Time by Rev.Horton Heat it is then!!
  12:35pm
kat330:

Dogs *not* fun? That must be something really serious.
  12:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

The dogs will be psyched to see you!

@kat: I remembered from your blog link; FMU certainly makes us known to certain people--at least if you have different monikers, you instantly know where someone knows you from!
  12:36pm
kat330:

With these DJ sets today, the Love Train must have stopped and parked itself in the tri-state area.
  12:38pm
kat330:

Well, I only started with the kat330 because it fell into place with other endeavors / email, etc. Made life simpler.
  12:40pm
kat330:

Aw, a cover of another great memory from childhood. Singing along and wager Amanda is, too.
  12:40pm
Carmichael:

What kind of dog(s) is it today, Amanda? Yapper or beast?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Amanda:

A sweet, geriatric pit bull.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Amanda:

@kat330, when you greeted Matthew back there I totally thought you were just excited about Matthew Sweet on the Golden Palominos record.
  12:43pm
Danne D:

See Amanda follows up a Costello/Lowe track with Squeeze. This is why we love you Amanda :)
  12:43pm
northguineahills:

I missed Chords of Fame. I'll have to look it up.

I've never had been able to get into Elvis Costello or Nick Lowe. Is something wrong w/ me?
  12:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

Didn't know there was a Matthew Sweet in the Golden Palominos -- serendipitous!
  12:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

@NGH: Nothing's wrong with you; though, it may be harder to get into Amanda's sets, as they're chock full of Lowe/Costello/and influenced songs.
  12:46pm
listener james from westwood:

this squeeze tune was pleasantly new to me.
  12:47pm
kat330:

Ha! That, too, Amanda! You remembered I'm sweet on Sweet? Wow, impressive memory along with impressive jay skills! :)
  12:48pm
Brian in UK:

Squeeze did peak early.

Golden P's are a loose aggregation. La dee da.
  12:49pm
Carmichael:

Hey, I have this EP. I think it came with Seconds of Pleasure.
  12:49pm
kat330:

Speaking of short-lived supergroups and Nick Lowe, does FMU have a ban on Little Village? Don't believe I've ever heard anyone play anything by them.
  12:50pm
SteveL:

Nice following Lowe and Edmunds with the real deal. Love both.
  12:51pm
Brian in UK:

Bring on The Louvins.
  12:51pm
Carmichael:

Yea Kat, Take Another Look would be a great song in this playlist.
  12:52pm
kat330:

Of course, what's so great about these streams is the introduction to music I've never heard or barely familiar with. I can hear the things I buy and love on my Sansa.
  12:52pm
northguineahills:

Always found it curious that Bill Laswell was in the Golden Palominos.
  12:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, what an uptempo, soulful, rollicking cover of Hank Sr! Are all the songs on this album like this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
Amanda:

Yeah more or less, cool album
  12:53pm
Brian in UK:

It's a bit like The Beatles singing 'Help' and making it sound chirpy.
  12:54pm
kat330:

Amanda Holiday!
  12:54pm
Danne D:

@kat no ban on Little Villlage...um...

http://wfmu.org/artistbrowser.php?action=artist&artist=Little+Village&artist_id=112016
  12:54pm
northguineahills:

Modern Sounds are new to me.
  12:54pm
G:

@kat: Bob Brainen, Apr 8 2007. But yes, not a lot of Little Village in the last decade or so...
  12:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sing along! Billie style!!!
  12:54pm
northguineahills:

I think I'll cook some collard greens for lunch.
  12:55pm
Carmichael:

I think I'll cook some heroin for lunch.
  12:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

Creative re-workings of Hank Williams, sounds cool.
  12:55pm
kat330:

I heard some fast clicking there! Lyric cheatsheet?
  12:58pm
kat330:

Thanks for the scoop, Danne & G! I got to hear a live feed of LV in concert through Chicago's WXRT back in '91-'92. It was a great concert, and I love all the members. Fellow Hoosier Hiatt, for e.g.
  12:58pm
listener james from westwood:

heh, didn't know there was a version of this besides tiny tim's!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Amanda:

No, just filling the playlist in.
  12:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat 12:52: The virtue of the entire WFMU enterprise: you get to hear the favs of brilliant, enthusiastic DJs, delivered to you 24/7, on demand, at any computer you're at. How much for this splendid service? NOTHING! Consequently I donate tons to WFMU in appreciation of this fact. Community-wide enterprise, everyone here makes it work!
  12:59pm
Brian in UK:

Baa baaa baa
  1:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: Someone had to sing the songs for TT for him to learn them! :)
  1:01pm
efd:

If only Maurice Chevalier could have been around to perform at Le Poisson Rouge...
  1:01pm
kat330:

Heh! :) 'Twould be no shame if there were.
  1:03pm
Danne D:

Look at Amanda using the cajun terms :)
  1:12pm
northguineahills:

Another musician I've never been able to get into is Nick Cave, although his Grinderman project was passable.
  1:12pm
kat330:

To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is the photo-negative of the previous love & roses set?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Amanda:

Maurice Chevalier should have had a residency at Le Poisoon Rouge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
Amanda:

Kat330, luckily (?) I don't have enough hate songs to fill a set. Well, not today.
  1:15pm
kat330:

Les Poissons and Les Roses Rouge.
  1:16pm
kat330:

@Amanda: Whew! [wiping overheated forehead]
  1:16pm
Brian in UK:

This is very early Sub Pop?
  1:17pm
Danne D:

Yay :) Mommyheads :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Amanda:

Brian -- Yes, I guess the label would have only been like a year old by then. The yellow/black art on the label is exactly the same as today.
  1:21pm
Rajin Cajin:

Ima beat yalls bad accents wid mah Baton Rouge, ah gay-roan-tee
  1:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

Loved "Only Star" -- first time hearing of the Mommyheads.

NOT the first time hearing The Adverts or the Big Stiff Box Set!
  1:21pm
Brian in UK:

ngh just found this. I am inclined to agree with what is written. No DVD as yet do not hold your breath.

@Brian: Half-past gin here :D
  1:25pm
Danne D:

I gotta get going :( But thanks for making my Wednesday brighter as always Amanda :D

Bye Danne! See you later!

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
  1:28pm
SteveL:

Yea Flipper! (or, more appropriately put; Flipper? So what?)
  1:29pm
kat330:

Hey, Matt, I was just sneaking a peek over there myself and then come back to see you were just there. Coward and Parker, Nick & Nora, can't go wrong quoting those wits!
  1:29pm
Ricardo Montalban:

FLIPPER RULEZ!
  1:29pm
kat330:

Bye, Danne! Hi, Bob! Nature abhors a vacuum.

Ah, the Danne/ndbob changing of the guard...
  1:31pm
Brian in UK:

Hey ndbob. I joined the six & a zero club last Monday. Still standing.
  1:32pm
northguineahills:

Wow, I've somehow missed this Flipper album. cool stuff.
  1:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

It's fun to see a "Changing of the Guard" on late night playlists! A shift change!
  1:34pm
ndbob:

@brian I'm standing as well - still feels a bit strange though
  1:35pm
kat330:

@Brian: I'll see your six+zero and carry over a one. Don't feel a day over four+zero though.
  1:36pm
kat330:

Happy Birthday, Bob! I guess that's in order if I decode the message exchange?
  1:36pm
ndbob:

Sometimes I feel allof sixty - and at other times I feel sixteen:)
  1:36pm
Brian in UK:

It's all in the mind. 18 really.
  1:37pm
kat330:

Amanda, I wrote on some other playlist a while back that in most cases, I think a 2-hour shift is the Goldilocks length.
  1:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: Daunting, but there's so much great Amanda-approved music to play! Although if you were on for just one hour, I could imagine something like Vicki's Do Or DIY--fast-paced, upbeat and fun! Over before you know it, but what a show it was! kind of vibe.
  1:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Julie has said that at first filling a 3 hour show seemed daunting, but now she does it all the time, and tries to fit everything in--and thinks the old 4 hour overnight slots would be ideal.
  1:40pm
SteveL:

Flipper vs. Petula Clark. Awesome. Nuff said.
  1:41pm
kat330:

Ahh, dear Dusty. What a fine female voice.
  1:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

and now vs. Dusty!! Trifecta! Quad-fecta, if you count Amanda's mic break! :)
  1:43pm
Brian in UK:

Is this a Norrie Paramour arrangement, Amanda?
  1:43pm
Brian in UK:

The Trems.
  1:48pm
kat330:

Shouldn't this title by Sucre en Dimanche?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Amanda:

Brian -- it seems likely that Paramor produced that record but I can't find any immediate confirmation.
  1:49pm
kat330:

BWIM, given the French tossed in the lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Amanda:

Kat, you're thinking of the Serge Gainsbourg version. But he says "pretty girl" instead of "femme jolie" at that part
  1:51pm
Brian in UK:

Thanks Amanda, love his name.
Does selecting for a two hour show make a difference to your thinking?
  1:51pm
Matt from Springfield:

Dream A Little Dream, in mid-day!

Super happy fun Amanda dj set!

Aha, the reverse negative again.

Singing harmony along with this sweet gem. :)

Great show Amanda, just remembered I have not fed el doggo. I blame you!!

Brian, I'm appalled! Poor Spencer!

Aw, you guys are so nice. 2-hour show made selecting a lot easier.

Thanks for nothing. Arf.

Kitty Wells, RIP. She was around a long time though, first country & western "starlet".
Thanks Amanda! Enjoyed your "lunch-sized portion" show today!
