Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 1, 2013 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Happy new year Brian. It's only too rare for me to be able to hear your show live
Avatar 3:11pm
BT:

Happy 2013 everybody

SASHA:

  3:14pm
2013:

Take that you filthy Mayans. I fart in your general direction.
  3:15pm
fred:

@BT: I'll be seeing Headwar again in a couple of weeks. I can't wait. I hope they'll make it back to the US soon, and this time I promise I won't try to get involved in getting them on the station

LEONARD!!!!!!!! perfect!!!!!
Avatar 3:21pm
BT:

No way, please say hi Fred --- they sent a Morts Vont Bien LP too....
  3:27pm
fred:

Don't get me wrong, I trust you to get them if/when they come back. Now that you're on board, they don't need my clumsy attempt to help -- and you're old enough to get into Piano's if need be

slugluv1313:

oooooooo Himalayan restaurant in Queens? where? please do tell!!!!
  3:30pm
slugluv1313:

ahhhhhh Leonard!!!!! so much for being "grandpa old"! :)
  3:34pm
fred:

@slugluv1313: this is not exactly a recent track though, I remember I was in college when it was released, and that was definitely not recent

Nepalese and Tibetans are maybe slowly taking over Jackson Hts. See also Hamro Bhim's Cafe. Just avoid the goat liver.
  3:58pm
fred:

One of my fave new -- to me -- things of the past year was learning of the Sherwin Sleeves radio shows, thanks to X.Ray Burns. Not really groundbreaking, but I love that stuff

slugluv1313:

CRISWELL!!!!! Jackson Heights is awesome -- THANK YOU for the restaurant info!!! and oops! yes, i know that "The Future" is not a new Leonard Cohen song (from early 1990s? *my* senile ol' brain cannot recall) -- but more a comment on his energetic touring versus recent "age-ist" comments i have heard recently about people who are "up there" in years . . .
  4:05pm
fred:

Is that the Lloyd Cole from the 80's? It's a joke, right?
  4:08pm
sFrances:

Awesome, this IS the same Lloyd Cole!

Happy 2013 y'all~! Just tuned in,really enjoyed the Peter Stampfel.
  4:09pm
fred:

Wow, that was unexpected, to say the least
  4:11pm
dinatekno:

LLOYD COLE!!!! Awesome! He's putting together some new material right now and it's sounding pretty great. His son Will has turned into a great musician as well and he's playing on the new tracks. LC is still the MAN!
  4:14pm
fred:

This might not top Humppanirvana, but it came close, awesome cover
  4:35pm
fred:

@BT: will you be around for Sonic Protest this year?
Avatar 4:38pm
BT:

Hey Fred, I dont think so. There's a couple big projects bubbling up for FMU's overseas front though. On my own, who knows! my lecture tour last year went over as well as Klaus Kinski's
  4:45pm
fred:

They'd love to have you, but they're operating on a shoestring budget -- I'm sure you can relate -- so it could only happen if you conveniently happen to be around at the time. Too bad, hopefully it will come true some day
  4:53pm
Joe B:

great show BT!
  5:03pm
fred:

Agreed Joe B. I will leave you know though, back to the lab for me tomorrow, or at least to the Matlab, and unfortunately it's not what Tony D meant
  5:07pm
fred:

"know" was intended to read "now", though "now" is already past by now
  5:13pm
kat330:

Odin. Rodin. Grodin! Hi, BT and all and HNY! Just tuned in at the Odin after a fine Kurahara film (I Hate But Love).
  5:15pm
kat330:

I'll take another scoopful of Razen. Very nice.
  5:34pm
Stanley:

Hi Brian
Great track that Vagusnerve - just what I like.
Happy New Year.

Man, another winner from Sing Sing! Happy New Year, Brian - great show! Really liked that Orphyx cut, and I can't wait to hear the full Hot Lunch LP - the single was great.
