  7:08pm
anne:

  7:09pm
/r:

yes 2 Lau Nau. 35 bald eagles!!!!
  7:11pm
anne:

hanging out & feeding over the mississippi river, north illinois. i just got back. @ certain times over winter migration it can be 100s. hudson river north of the city, you can see them too. maybe not that many but they be floating on the ice floes fishing.

kat330:

@anne (my middle name, by the way ;): This beauty was on the fence in Philo's and my backyard: tinyurl.com...
Avatar 7:13pm
kat330:

We have tons of greedy sweeties on our feeder every day, eating us out of house and home. I don't think anyone for blocks -- maybe miles -- has a feeder, so we're it.
  7:18pm
Baby Copperhead:

Feel better Lamin! Sounding great /r:)
  7:19pm
other david:

beautiful opening set

hey folks
Avatar 7:20pm
kat330:

@other david: Happy New Year!
Avatar 7:20pm
Philo Gristle:

Greets, OD! Sounds lovely, indeed.
  7:20pm
anne:

@kat330 what a badass bird!! they're so agile whipping thru the trees

feel better Lamin and welcome back Rupture. happy new year to all!
Avatar 7:22pm
kat330:

@anne: Since that photo was taken in early March, a neighbor has taken down TWO huge beautiful trees for no good reason. Some years ago I'd spotted a peregrine falcon pair in those trees. :/ I don't know where all the squirrels and birds go to as they lose more and more habitats.
  7:23pm
other david:

Hey Philo & Kat! Random, but does Tuusniemi mean anything to either of you - was yapping to a guy who lived there a few days back via morse code
  7:23pm
Kat in Chicago:

Hi DJ/Rupture! It's nice to stretch out, isn't it? Anne, I've been enjoying your bird photos on (appropriately) Twitter. Was wondering where you were taking those.
Avatar 7:24pm
Philo Gristle:

@anne even besides what kat said, it's a rare treat here in indiana to get any big birds....
Avatar 7:25pm
Philo Gristle:

@od I think it's a place name in finland, not sure where. Niemi is the word for peninsula, and tuus is a common prefix indicating (possibly) 'windy.'
Avatar 7:26pm
kat330:

Yeah, we saw bald eagles down in the Everglades a couple of years ago. But we also had a huge pileated woodpecker on a tree at a previous property, no more than 20 feet from our window viewing point. So beautiful.
Avatar 7:27pm
Philo Gristle:

@od I guess I'm skimming!! No, don't know the place, but sounded familiar.
  7:29pm
northguineahills:

And I was excited when I was in FL at my parents and saw a pair of hawks courting in their backyard. My parents didn't seem to care.
Avatar 7:29pm
kat330:

@od: And I've only been to Finland once for about 12 days in May 2002. Only caught Helsinki, Turku, Hyvinkaa and Kangasjarvi (umlauts, fahgeddaboutem!).
  7:30pm
anne:

@Kat in Chicago, thanks!! those were taken locally sometimes on a walk/ride up lakeshore from hyde park up to downtown, sometimes in the cook cnty forest preserves. today I trekked out to the Mississippi River cuz the bald eagles gather this and next month out there and other rivers nearby.
  7:32pm
/r:

good to be back! I was in Finland once. they had reindeer sandwiches backstage
Avatar 7:32pm
kat330:

@ngh: Hawks we have aplenty in southern Indiana. Can't drive anywhere toward the rural areas without seeing the circling above of hawks surfing the thermal updrafts.
  7:33pm
other david:

@Philo - thanks! Yeah I've only had a chance for a quick glance on wikipedia which mentions it has "5.19 inhabitants per square kilometre", so it aint a sprawling metropolis :)

@kat: knowing absolutely nothing about the Finnish language, it's very weird copying down the letters whilst your anglophone brain is saying they doesnt read right - chaps name was "Erkki"
Avatar 7:33pm
Philo Gristle:

/r bet those came with beer.
Avatar 7:34pm
Philo Gristle:

@od ...---...
Avatar 7:35pm
kat330:

@anne: I've got to go now, but please send a photo link to your bird pics? and @kat in chicago: I used to live in Park Ridge and then Evanston back in the early '90s.
  7:35pm
other david:

"they doesnt", yikes, I've had two beers.

Philo, yep this is a time for an SOS :)
Avatar 7:35pm
Philo Gristle:

@od s'all I know.... Erkki is a common name. A lot of male names are female names in US. My brother is named Kari and Joni is another common male name.
  7:36pm
anne:

@Philo Gristle & @kat330, yes big birds are a treat, always a thrill. there should def be some nice big birds where you at, especially that state forest near you. I worked @Indiana Dunes this summer and we saw owls, hawks, falcons. Check out this website for local bird reports (it takes a little time to fully load) and input Indiana: http://birding.aba.org.
  7:37pm
other david:

@Philo - thanks mister :)
  7:40pm
northguineahills:

Always love Meredith Monk. Gotta bounce, bye y'all!
Avatar 7:40pm
kat330:

Yep, we belong to the Audubon Society and get all the local info. We have graceful cranes at the local park areas, too.

Thanks DJ/Rupture, for the lovely sounds and the fine company you attract here! (like birds of a feather at a feeder) G'night everyone.
  7:40pm
Kat in Chicago:

hi @kat330! Never lived as far north as you, but I was in Rogers Park for 11 years, worked in Evanston briefly and shop there occasionally.
Avatar 7:40pm
Philo Gristle:

This was my intro to Toure, like I'm sure many others.....

@anne thanks! Certainly more birds here than in Finland. Almost rode my bike to a ugly vulture picking some roadkill a few years back. It'd be crows at worst back there.
Avatar 7:40pm
Philo Gristle:

@ngh Night!
  7:41pm
/r:

yes a little Toure rewind!
Avatar 7:42pm
