Cool, the new playlist template is up with correct stream links! I was just cluelessly commenting during Liz's show about not knowing when that would happen. Duh.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:05pm

I guess I can forgo the manually-placed links from now on. Yess...

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO NEWS...
Take a look at the new prominence of Give the Drummer Radio on the front page of WFMU.ORG. It now shows the NOW PLAYING info, just like programs on the main channel!!

Of the two ladies to the left, I think I'm more in tune with the one in back, bobbing along.

Chas.:

Who gets credit for that gif? What a great idea--brilliant in its--um--simplicity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Jeff Golick:

Agreed, Chas. Wish these things came with credits. But was just pointed out to me via twitter not so long ago...

I can't stop watching. Her perserverance! She will not change her dance no matter what you throw at her. I think I'm in love.

Brian: you'll be welcomed back whenever you're ready to return...
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
Brian in UK:

I was truly amazed to hear Maria Farantouri (a traditional Greek singer) jazzing it up vocally with Charles Lloyd the other week. It came so naturally to her it made wonder why there is so little vocals in jazz. Is that naive or just a wonderful singer showing her ability?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Jeff Golick:

Love that stream info on the front page. One can follow two shows at once! Not that I recommend anyone try that. Brian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Charlie:

Hi Jeff, Jeff, Doug, all.
Kenzo -- thanks for hooking up GTDR on the homepage! And for the listen links atop the playlist!
btw, I like how the gal in the back is subtly bobbing her head.
And dig Annette enormously.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Brian in UK:

What's that Jeff. Just sitting here reading one of Hubert Selby's rib ticklers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Doug Schulkind:

What's really cool with the new front page is that it shows "now playing" info for the Drummer Stream (and all streams) whether a show is live or not. Just click "See All Channels" and you'll get to see what's playing on the stream 24 hours a motherloving day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm

That would be Lovely Linda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Doug Schulkind:

It always amazes me that Doc Severinsen appears on this record (thought not on this song).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm
Jeff Golick:

Some enterprising soul should to to Gil Evans on the cover of Into the Hot what was done to the Simplicity lady... s.pixogs.com...
  1:32pm
Chas.:

Y'all probably knew this--my teenage students told me Miss Size 16 is doing the Dougie. (precursor to the Doug S?)
Yes, I play Destination:Out for my students. They only complain half the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
Doug Schulkind:

I think maybe for next week: Edible mic breaks. Just a thought.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
listener james from westwood:

rapt over here. splendid first half.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Jeff Golick:

Chas.: I had to stop doing the Dougie to process that comment.

Doug: As you wish. It's a natural progression.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
Doug Schulkind:

Dancing the DougS requires natural double-jointedness and a fifth of bourbon.
  1:47pm
Chas.:

Doug--I'm waiting for it to become a YouTube sensation...
  1:52pm
Alf from Upstate:

That was like the soundtrack to some long-lost psychedelic Disney animated feature.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Doug Schulkind:

I'll call my dance "The Sour Mash."
Avatar 🦀 1:54pm
duke:

Four for Trane is one of my favorite albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Doug Schulkind:

The story going around is that the photo shoot for the "Four For Trane" cover happened in the middle of the night. Coltrane rushed over to be in the shot and forgot to put socks on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
Jeff Golick:

@Alf: but in a good way?
@duke: no argument here.
@Doug: kids and their stories!
  2:01pm
Alf from Upstate:

Oh yes, in a very good way. I realize that "Disney" is generally referenced in the pejorative, but not my intention.
Avatar 2:09pm

Last week I was watching season 2 of the Sopranos, and there was actually some Anton Webern in there, I believe one of his Variations.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
listener james from westwood:

ngh, was a suburban couple listening to that webern (don't want to spoil anyone)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Doug Schulkind:

@NGH
Hey, me and the Mrs. are rewatching the Sopranos, too. And we're midway through Season 2. Last image: Big Pussy sobbing on the toilet during AJ's confirmation party.
Avatar 2:14pm
northguineahills:

Yep, the suburban yuppie couple. I thought it was Webern, but couldn't believe, and thought it was some atonal imitation, so I shazammed it to confirm.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Brian in UK:

Gotta cut & run. Nice one Jeffses. Sounds a bit Tolkein.
Avatar 2:14pm
northguineahills:

I miss seeing Masada live.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
listener james from westwood:

funny, when i saw that the first time in '01, i thought, "this sounds like something i'd hear on wfmu"! (i caught up w/ the series in two mega-sittings while down w/ the flu)
Avatar 2:18pm
northguineahills:

Yeah, I've gone through 2.5 seasons in the last 2.5 weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Doug Schulkind:

Bejeebus if that Simplicity gal isn't dancing exactly in time with the music just now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Jeff Golick:

Sopranos (which I haven't watched since the initial run) always had tremendous music. I don't think Mad Men has either the budget or. perhaps, the know-how.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
Jeff Golick:

Oh we're gonna give Miss Simplicity something to dance to...
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
listener james from westwood:

i'd venture to say budget. weiner is a david chase/sopranos alum. mad men spent thru the nose for part of a beatles cut last season, but is typically more reliant on short snippets of original music used as accents here and there, and for one big thematic bow in the form of closing credits music, than on the "tony pops on 102.7 and hears clapton" sort of thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Jeff Golick:

OFF-TOPIC: In the foods-I-can-always-be-counted-on-to-eat-too-much-of category, top of the list might be Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Pretzels.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
listener james from westwood:

in terms of using period (or period-sounding) music thru an ep, sopranos alum terence winter's more along those lines in "boardwalk empire"
Avatar 2:29pm
northguineahills:

I think I also recognized the Latin Playboys and the Tindersticks as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
Doug Schulkind:

I played a Latin Playboys track on my show a few Fridays ago that I heard at the end of a recent Sopranos rerun. I was unfamiliar with the song even though I've had it for a decade. My wussy excuse: It's the shortest track on the album.

What a wuss.
Avatar 2:56pm
northguineahills:

Kickass set!
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
listener james from westwood:

agreed; great show, jeff & jeff, and glad to see the "now playing" entry on the homepage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks for tuning in, ngh & LJfW!
