Scratchy vanity 45s, pilfered field recordings, muddy off-the-radio sounds, homemade congregational tapes and vintage commercial gospel throw-downs; a little preachin', a little salvation, a little audio tomfoolery.

Church Signs:
1) Free Trip to heaven. Details Inside!
2) Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin-Robbins.
3) Searching for a new look? Have your faith lifted here!
4) An ad for a Church has a picture of two hands holding stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments are inscribed and a headline that reads, "For fast, fast, fast relief, take two tablets.
5) When the restaurant next to the Church put out a big sign that said, "Open Sundays," the church reciprocated with its own message: "We are open on Sundays, too."
6) Have trouble sleeping? We have sermons -- come hear one!
7) Come in and pray today. Beat the Christmas rush!
8) Sign broken. Message inside this Sunday.
9) Come work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours are long and the pay is low. But the retirement benefits are out of this world.
10) If you're headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns.

A guy is at the pearly gates, waiting to be admitted, while St. Pete is leafin' through this Big Book to see if the guy is worthy of entering. Saint Peter goes through the books several times, furrows his brow, and says to the guy, "You know, I can't see that you did anything really good in your life but, you never did anything bad either. Tell you what, if you can tell me of one REALLY good deed that you did in your life, you're in."

The guy thinks for a moment and says, "Yeah, there was this one time when I was drivin' down the highway and I saw a giant group of KKK Biker Gang Rapists assaulting this poor girl. I slowed down my car to see what was going on, and sure enough, there they were, about 50 of 'em, torturing this chick. Infuriated, I got out my car, grabbed a tire iron out of my trunk, and walked straight up to the leader of the gang, a huge guy with a studded leather jacket and a chain running from his nose to his ear. As I walked up to the leader, the KKK Biker Gang Rapists formed a circle around me. So, I ripped the leader's chain off his face and smashed him over the head with the tire iron. Then I turned around and yelled to the rest of them, 'Leave this poor, innocent girl alone, you slime! You're all a bunch of sick, deranged animals! Go home before I teach you all a lesson in pain!'"

St. Peter, impressed, says, "Really? When did this happen?"

"About two minutes ago."

Aires is a long time suffix for gospel groups. But that is a good question. I am not sure of the origin.

I was in this friends yard with my acoustic guitar once at a ,getting ready to cook up some burgers in and have a little beer and song.My friend had told me that there was this guy that wasn't allowed in his yard anymore because he was drunk the night before and beat the daylights out of one of our mutual friends and put him in the hospital for no reason.I did not know the man who he was speaking of.He told me that if I saw this person, and he described him to me,...tell him to leave & that he wasn't welcomed there anymore.
Later on,my friend went in the house to do something & I was alone...this unruly spirit walks in the yard and says "Where the **** is John and who are you!" I said "John,is in the house, he told me to tell you are not allowed here anymore" He looked at me and screams "Who the ___ are you!?" then proceeds to run towards me,I got scared!;I yelled at him,as he was now about 2 feet away,"I BIND THIS SPIRIT IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!". He ran OUT of the yard screaming quicker than he was running tword me!. LOL!
TRUE STORY!.

dinodimucc:

Dear Brother Kevin, thank you again, for the joy you bring every week - but particularly this week, because you played what may be my favorite recording of all time: One More River to Cross by the Starlight Singers. Lord have mercy. But I couldn't help but notice, it sounded a bit scratchier than when you last played it on the air, as far as I can tell, on the 25th of February, 2010- Please make some copies before you wear the grooves off of that absolute masterpiece/classic/cultural treasure/whatever great words there are for this almost unbearably beautiful tune, which I hum to myself on my way - home...!
