Hey Joe and buddies! Have y'all seen the line up for Goner Fest this year? It's a doozy! Mudhoney, Cosmic Psychos, Head, Bantam Rooster, Blind Shake, Cheap Time, Tyvek, Human Eye.........
Avatar 12:08pm KP:

Hello joe from cross river rival.
  12:08pm KevinWho:

@tim from champaign: Cosmic Psychos should NOT be missed
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:13pm tim from champaign:

@Kevin - guess who's gonna miss them? d'oh
Avatar 12:14pm dc pat:

Holy crap, tim....looks amazing...
Avatar 12:15pm SmokinJ:

hey! joe..
  12:15pm KevinWho:

Avatar 12:16pm Joe B:

Hi everyone! thanks for tuning in! appreciate it!
Avatar 12:17pm Joe B:

Hey Tim, yeah, saw the lineup, am considering going. are you going? I have never gone to it.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm tim from champaign:

I don't think I can make it this year. I have friends who go every year. I hear reports of 100% good times each year. Excellent tunes, lots of shenanigans, great bbq, cheap beer, killer after parties.
  12:28pm geokopp:

Great to see you at Flamin Groovies show Joe!
  12:31pm John L.:

Incredibly bummed I am going to miss Langford tonight. I'll be at the A-Bones/Fleshtones show tomorrow. And for Hudson Valley residents, Andy Shernoff will be at Market Market, in Rosendale, this Friday.
  12:35pm geokopp:

Shernoff was at the maxwell's flamin groovies show sunday.
Avatar 12:37pm dc pat:

Johnny Langford is great live, go see if you've never caught any of his groups.
  12:40pm John L.:

I've seen Langford, in one format or another, countless times. The last time was at the Big Apple BBQ, last year. Check out his artwork, too. Always fun.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Mike Sin:

Saw a Big Star doc at IFC back in the Fall. The doc currently playing is the same one, correct? I can't figure it out because I think I saw it billed as a premiere or such.
Avatar 12:46pm dc pat:

Langford is a very funny man.
  12:48pm drewo:

Loving the show this morning Joe. Caught the Mikal Cronin Band in Tucson a few weeks ago - the whole show could have been straight out of the late 70's. I mean that in a good way.
Avatar 12:49pm Joe B:

Mike, guessing it is the same film ... maybe it has been edited or cut? all the activity the last week or so is because it is now being properly distributed, by Magnolia Pictures
Avatar 12:49pm dc pat:

I saw Cronin here in dc by accident and was kind of blown away by his group. Super tight and powerful. Great show.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Mike Sin:

Joe, 10-4. The surpise for me during that vfilm was that they went out and tracked down Jon Lightman. Even though he was only in the band for a short time in '74, he did play a fair amount of live gigs with them. Even after after the regroup/reboot in the '90s, you really didn't hear anything about him.
Avatar 12:55pm Joe B:

I always thought it was too bad that they didn't ask him or Hummel to play at least some of those re-boot gigs. because then Stringfellow could have played keyboards or an additional guitar

Joe Got Soul!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:00pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Happy High Noon... Took a hot walk at lunch. Your music was the poifect accompaniment, Joe.
  1:01pm John L.:

Glad that my last YLT show at Maxwell's was with the Feelies. They concluded with a full, ear-splitting version of "Sister Ray." A record-clerk geek out.
Avatar 1:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...who is *this* NeoNeoPsych band? These kids're great...
  1:03pm laura:

Whoever they are, they'll probably never amount to much.
Avatar 1:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...ah...versatility sometimes means a lack of focus :p ...
Avatar 1:10pm dc pat:

...better known as the "Squirrel Cage"...
Avatar 1:27pm KP:

Mike Sin, i saw it back then too and it's funnny it's to hear so much about it now. They can do anything they want to a film before inviting critics to premier but in this case prob not much if anything. They were likely building word of mouth and it seems to have worked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Mike East:

can somebody send some air conditioning over here? and possibly do something about these flies? Its really ruining my listening experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Mike East:

argh! this watermelon sugar is just attracting more flies! it is cooling me off a bit, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Mike East:

this is fucking awesome, btw
  1:48pm KevinWho:

wow, I love this Cardigans (which suprises me greatly)
  1:49pm KevinWho:

ok, now how about something from Pippin?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:57pm tim from champaign:

Oblivians are playing in Chicago this weekend. Alas, I can't make it. BUT I'm going to see Mudhoney and Melvins next weekend in Milwaukee.
Avatar 2:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...you say 'Runnin'OnFumes' is coppin' 'Search&Destroy' - like it's a *bad* thing...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Jeff from Rahway:

Kevin, you can't get too much punk rock Pippin.
Avatar 2:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& Merry & Frodo could really KickOutThuJamz when they had enuff beer & mushrooms...
  2:12pm KevinWho:

Ben Vereen = the Iggy of Broadway
  2:14pm Woo:

Loved the Kid Congo and the Human Eye.
  2:14pm KP:

My first and last Maxwells shows was the Feelies. Same show few months ago.
  2:15pm John L.:

OBN IIIs playing in Albany, at Valentines, July 22. Hope nobody minds these Upstate promos. The Arbitrary Guide to Popular Culture seems to draw the line at Port Chester, so I thought I'd plug the Hudson Valley and some other points North.
  2:20pm Woo:

Pismo Beach and all the clams you can eat.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Jeff from Rahway:

Joe, can you play something by the len Price 3 from their "Pictures" LP?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Jeff from Rahway:

I saw Southern Culture on the Skids back in the 90s @ Maxwell's. The band was all dressed up in matching waiter/waitress gigs...sorta like walking into a Waffle House circa 1978.
  2:29pm Mark from bloomfield:

LOVING the show!!!
  2:31pm Randy in NC:

SCOTS playing Roanoke this Friday, Raleigh next Thursday!
  2:31pm John L.:

You've played all 3 bands from last years Big Apple BBQ:Jon Langford, JC Brooks and SCOTS.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Jeff from Rahway:

Thanks, Joe!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Mike Sin:

Just snagged that Dead "Rare Cuts & Oddities 1966" CD on Rhino. So there's even another Rhino disc of material from this era? Did Rhino do some sort of early Dead series or such?
Avatar 2:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

! - Thx for requesting Jeff!
Avatar 2:40pm Joe B:

Mike, this one is dated 2003. Not sure if there is any overlap. doesn't appear to be on the tsudio cuts, not sure though. will have to do an A/B comparison!
  2:43pm frenchee:

great show today, JOE! So, when are we making that October-birthday trip down to NOLA?
  2:44pm frenchee:

I LOVE THE ABOVE!
Avatar 2:44pm Nanker de Tucson:

SCotS played a private party I got to attend ca. 1985-86. Never had heard of them but never forgot 'em.
Avatar 2:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx As Ever JoeB!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 2:59pm tim from champaign:

Thanks Joe! Great show.
