I subscribe to the Carl Jung / Joseph Campbell Comparative Religion/Mythology point of view. Everyone wants to think their Religion is the One True & historically Factual religion - but the more you look @ them, you see the similarities - & influences they had on each other. Campbell says we are, basically, the Storytelling Monkey - it's what we do - but @ this time of great Change, it will be awhile before we can get a Story together that makes sense for us...

Good morning dear listeners, good holiday (if it applies) and thanks Meghan for more African musical travels! I know we've moved on now... but hearing Bonga's classic reminded me that Meghan's old Bay State stomping grounds is a hot-spot for Lusophone African music thanks to the large Portuguese-speaking community. A few years back my better half Katie and I saw Bonga, an icon in Angola, perform at Restaurant Cesaria - an excellent Cape Verdean eatery in Dorchester MA. That's our US travel tip for the day...

The blog has been a way of getting to know better especially Gil and Caetano and the tropicália moment. I always listened to it from my parents, so it has always been something quite domestic and related to some artists which aren't usually considered the big geniuses, like Alceu Valença for instance. It has been cool to regain a taste for Brazilian music

A friend of mine in Minas Gerais always complained that the metal band he played (they opened for Bling Guardian in Belo Horizonte) lacked "local colour". Their release used to say the band was created in a freezing night in Governador Valadares (their hometown), but in Valadares is always warm as an oven.

looking at your blog doca, it's some good work. Will look properly after the show ^_^

Siti binti Saad was a nice song, seems old, 1930? but her voice didn't sound 'old' style

- yes - Freddie Mercury's family had to flee Zanzibar in a political coup - so 'Bohemian Rhapsody' maybe not so 'meaningless'...
