I like the story Tito Puente met Pres. Clinton & was like 'Mr. Pres. I'm Tito Puente' - & Bill was like 'Tito - I know who you are!' - not so remarkable maybe, but nice...

Dry but c-c-cold up here round Boston way, Sem Chumbo!

- ok ausmanx - relieved your flesh is not boiling away.
...sadly, can only pick out the occasional palabra of Esapanol - but the 'vibe' obviously cuts thru
@Sem: Was excited yesterday about getting AboveFreezing - but rained, & of course melted - too much water @ once - & just exposed the ice & of course refreezed - walking or driving just a miserable dangerous chore; about the same up there - ??

Temperature swap exchange not working properly ...

@Marty
Can you give us a brief idea about lyrical and narrative content of Facundo Cabral's perfomance on the mike?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am
Sem Chumbo:

@RR: really Miami-like downpours here overnight, and 56F, now -1C, going to -9C by early pm. We get crazy weather on the North Atlantic coast, but this is remarkable even by our standards.

Colombian pressing of German disco?

doca:

Hi, Marty, Guido, Sem Chumbo, RRN63 and all.

@Guido: speaking of German diisco, I've recently found a Dschinghis Khan LP for 10 reais (like 3 dollars), should I buy it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12am
Fuzzy:

"Musica para Planchear" indeed -- hear this all over Mexico too (holy shite, I've actually heard this Juan Gabtiel tune before!)
Avatar 7:16am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx Marty for sharing your trip & rekkids !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24am
Guido (Cologne):

Hi Doca!

Dschinghis Khan is considered kinda "Trash" respectively more "Schlager" than "Disco" over here, but can be helpfull to cheer up a party. (Ralph Siegel production. Siegel has a kind of "Molopol" for writing most German contributions for Eurovistion Chanson Contest during 70ies/80ies.)

Check the music on YouTube. 3$ for a VG+ copy might be OK.
It's not really a collectors-item.
Avatar 7:27am
doca:

Yeah, I know, I was thinking of buying just for fun. My brother showed me Dschinghis Khan and I just found it one of the tackiest things I've ever seen.

PKNY:

Happy New Year Marty and everyone! Nice scores, and I gotta say that Tommy Davidson must've taken inspiration from Boney M. for some of those 'In Living Color' skits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am
Guido (Cologne):

By the way, it is interesting for me to see the perception of Boney M. on the other side of the pond. Here in Germany people tend to look down on it, being "not the real thing".

While Moroder-productions seen as innovative, Frank Farian-productions are suspicious of coming from the Schlager-workbench with dull English ...

... which doesn't really make sense since Morodoer produced more successful Schlagers than Farian and lyrics aren't deep poetry as well.

OK, later Boney M. really is Bubblegum-Trallala.

There are nice stylish re-issues of El Gran Combo from Spain, in real 60ies-style cover laminate!

But that's NY-Boogaloo isn't it?
Allright goes along with the Fania-stuff in this set.

I too bought a copy of La Negra Tomasa by Caifanes last time I went to Medellin, from this old guy (with an arm missing) in a bookstore in Medellin. Had to dig through dangerously piled stacks of dusty books and records.
