Mr Fields, a good afternoon to you, and all listeners!

Gaylord Fields:

@Whooda: My Guarantee: All Pink Lady and no Jeff ever!

@mariano: Greetings to you!

@JakeGould: Cardinal numbers only, please.
  6:12pm
JakeGould:

Five. You happy now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Gaylord Fields:

Well, happier...
  6:14pm
JakeGould:

Good! I’m happier two.
Avatar 6:14pm
Whooda:

@DJ Gaylord Fields Holy Smokes! The short-lived TV show got by me (somehow) but the reference didn't :)

It's an honor just to be nominated.

Gaylord Fields:

I'm actually a fan of Jeff Altman's standup, but that matchup did not work. Poor fellow. Poor ladies.
  6:20pm
JakeGould:

Sid & Marty Krofft created that show. Hot tub time! www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
mariano:

Whoah, that was weird, Whooda! The Kroft connection makes it even weirder though, Jake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
Gaylord Fields:

Adding Jeff Altman as an intermediary/interlocutor was the Kroffts' unsuccessful solution to the problem of Pink Lady not speaking a lick of English and yet being tasked to host a prime-time variety show in the US.
  6:27pm
JakeGould:

Gaylord, nothing is more beautiful to me than the utter chaos of media in the pre-1990s. Just tons of “Let’s throw this at the wall & see if it sticks…”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm
Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: It was something to behold.
  6:30pm
JakeGould:

“Battle of the Network Stars”, “That’s Incredible” and local TV being local TV. These kids nowadays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
mariano:

There was this thing in the 80s in the UK called "It's a Royal Knockout" or something, involving various celebrities like Travolta dressed as vegetables performing weird pseudoathletic stunts. Only seen clips, but it's pretty jaw-dropping.
  6:40pm
JakeGould:

This makes me not want to drink 7-UP.
  Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
12539:

Hey, I thought this was commercial free radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Gaylord Fields:

Every nation's television programming was bizarre in the Seventies and Eighties. Just find some of the variety shows broadcast on RAI in Italy during that era to have your sense of everything questioned.

Greg From Brooklyn:

Gaylord...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: You mean the taste of 7-Up isn't enough to deter you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Greg From Brooklyn: Greg From Brooklyn...
  6:46pm
JakeGould:

I like 7-Up. What are you? Anti-Un-Cola?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
mariano:

Yeah, bizarre TV all around back then. I always remembered knockout though because of some of the commentary it generated: "Jack Dee shares the ‘malarial dream’ of seeing Cliff Richard dressed as a leek being chased by John Travolta in It’s a Royal Knockout"
Avatar 6:47pm
Whooda:

7-Up has to be good for you because only medicine could be that awful
  6:47pm
JakeGould:

You two Whooda? I LIKE 7-UP!
Avatar 6:50pm
Whooda:

@Jake I think it's the acid content in lemon/lime drinks that repel me. Lately I've taken to forcing myself to drink it for no apparent reason and realize it's not *all* that bad. Some mental issue I have with it I guess. I love lemonade and limeade. Go figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm
Gaylord Fields:

I kid about 7-Up. Sorta. I actually collect Uncola glasses (the upside-down cola-style glasses).
  6:52pm
JakeGould:

Good. And yeah, those upside down glasses. Gotta bring those back.
Avatar 6:53pm
Whooda:

The upside-down cola glass was marketing GENIUS!
  6:53pm

Chris Montez got a rockin good groove goin..

@The Matmos: Yeah, that damn app got in my eyes, too.

YOU try working a touchscreen with protoplasmic appendages. Not exactly a thrill.

robin:

Darn I forgot about uncola...just passed up the hat at a church rummage sale. Not that you woulda worn it ever ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Gaylord Fields:

@robin: I'd take the hat only if one can drink out of it when it's upside down. My interest in 7-Up is confined solely to its antipodean glassware.
  7:55pm
robin:

Oh this Arthur russell breaks my heart over and over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm

@robin: As does Fleegle, the most tragic of the Splits.
