I tend to refuse to pay such inflated prices. I passed many times on Public Enemy, even though I never saw them. Check with me again when Nisennenmondai command these, I may sing a different tune (biggest surprise would be that I'd still be breathing by then)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
coelacanth:

yeh,i refuse on principal...even when i had lotsa money.(though i've paid over $30. for a record!)...Fortunately i saw many bands before prices went crazy...and i see some good local & traveling bands for cheap.
Avatar 3:55pm

I passed on Nick Cave last time--forget how much it was but def pushing $100!
Avatar 3:56pm

I can see all the groups I want for $5 to $15. Tons of great bands, decent venues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm

(i'd see Nick Cave...for 30.)
Avatar 3:57pm

I spent over $200 to get two tickets for King Crimson, which is insane, but it was my Dad's 60th birthday on Saturday, and it was perfect timing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm

still some decent, cheap venues for band watchin' in philly.

E.Fox -well gifts are a good excuse to break principles!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm

oh so I'm guessing $60 will put you in the back and you won't enjoy anything...yeah, I probably wouldn't bite either
Avatar 4:00pm
steve:

good on you Fox, that's awesome
Avatar 4:00pm
d¢ pät:

Not sure how much I'd be willing to pay to see Tom Waits...it'd be more than Cave I'm thinking.
Avatar 4:01pm
Eyepatch Fox:

I WAS going to get my Dad this thing that Adrian Belew and Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto do every year, Three of a Perfect Pair, where you get to hang out in the woods with them for a week, jamming and drinking and hanging out. The accomodations start at $1,300 (which is more than I make a month) but it includes food and liquor, and I know my Dad would enjoy it. Maybe for Christmas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
fred:

I saw Marcia Bassett for €8 two weeks ago and she delivered a mind-blowing set. And there were three others before that, most of them real good. Throw in the potential for a great discovery, I'm just not going to pricey gigs.
Avatar 🎸 4:02pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Legendary cheapskate here. I think the most expensive show paid was the recent Kraftwerk dealie. At this point I forget; that was in the $30 or $35 range(?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
coelacanth:

mine was probably Thomas Mapfumo for $20. i forget the name of the place...a sort of "world music" venue in nyc.
...'late 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Stanley:

A while ago I saw Ry Cooder was playing in Edinburgh with tickets from £100 ($160) upwards, I thought no one is going to be mad enough to pay those prices. Saw later another date was added due to the demand!!!
Anyway the bands I want to see are rarely over £15 ($24).
Stick it to the Man!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
fred:

@RTD: I'm trying to follow your cheapskate footsteps. Call it WFMUitis, I'm more interested in acts I don't know, so I try to see a hundred or so each year. My budget means it'll have to be cheap
Avatar 4:08pm

I paid $50 for Pogues too--the band was amazingly but Shane fucking McGowen was plastered on rose wine and could barely sing. Embarrassing stereotype...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
coelacanth:

i see excellent music very cheap, which is enough for me now...but i'd have trouble resisting certain "bigger" acts.
(i might pay 40. for ufomammut)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
DCE:

I guess I'll be paying $25 to see this on Wednesday--which might actually be the most I've ever actually spent!
mahalls20lanes.getn2.it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
fred:

I would pay 40 to see Cynthia Loemij (she's a dancer). I might do so for Juliana Hatfield, and it's not a given. That's it. Unless I get another job
Avatar 4:16pm
northguineahills:

My gf paid for me to go w/ her to see Bjork, that was like $78, but it was small, intimate, when she had the stage in the middle of the room and the audience surrounded it.

The most expensive show I paid for myself was probably the Swans show 4 years back, around $30+.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
coelacanth:

my budget is thankful that most of these more famous acts never come that close to where i reside.

Yes northguineahills,i'd pay 30.for Swans...and i forgot- i probably paid a bit to see Fiona Apple, after her first album, because it was partly a gift.
