Radio ping-pong: In our second and final annual radio showdown, Yours truly (Rob that is) trade tracks with my connubial companion Katie Gentile. Among other things, Katie is an academic, author, open water swimmer, violinist for indie bands Special Pillow and Mad Scene, and former WCBN radio DJ. Somehow she makes time to come down to FMU and pit her collection of rare and classic vintage indie rock (with special Aussie / NZ emphasis) against my vintage and contemporary global sounds - exclusively on 7" vinyl.

  6:34pm Greg From Brooklyn:

Rob's sets are an absolute treasure.
Now with Superchunk thrown into the mix... What a treat!
  6:34pm Mitten John:

Ping?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Rob & Katie:

Pong. My most schizoid show of the season!
Avatar 6:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...In the name of Authenticity :
...Can you assure us that all of these were - in fact - recorded somewhere in the World - ???...
Avatar 6:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...It's a kewl Theme : ) ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Rob & Katie:

Thanks Greg from Bklyn... and RR, yes, somewhere...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Webhamster Henry:

Greetings Rob and Katie , 90.1 is coming in clearly in Rhinebeck New York. Which is transHudsonic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Katie:

Glad you're getting a clear signal for the dead air and interesting segueways. - From Katie
  6:50pm dinatekno:

Wow, Shima Guwa. Thank you for turning me on to this Rob! I love the singles shows - I get exposed to music I might never encounter while enmeshed in my music snobbery!
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Bas NL:

Hi Katie and Rob! Hi all! Very eclectic ping-pong!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Rob W:

Thanks dinatekno. Shima Guwa is a song that Shoukichi Kina has recorded before, in different versions. He's a legendary Okinawan singer / bandleader combining Okinawan folk with rock. This version is from a very interesting recent double-7" with Pascal Plantinga, who took Kina's music to some new sonic terrain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Rob Weisberg:

Thanks listener Baba Yiorgi and Bas for your generous mid-show pledges to WFMU's silent fundraiser!
  6:58pm dinatekno:

@Rob. The wonder of google. I just learned about him. Thank you!!!
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@WebhamsterH - The signal can be weak or strong in clear or cloudy conditions. I can never predict how it'll come in. It's free-form reception, I guess.
  7:01pm dinatekno:

Nothing But A Heartache - LOVE it! Katie, you are playing great tunes too. I like the back and forth. It's a fun mix.
Avatar 7:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- are you kidding? That Flirtations sounds like LauraNyro was a person of color working @ Motown in their greatest period or something...it's...huge...
Avatar 7:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& if I wanted 'Authenticity' - I think Bavon Marie Marie delivers in full...
Avatar 7:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...don't wanna hog the comments
- but CharanjitSingh-HoodooGurus was a particularly choice ping-pong : ) ...
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I am ping-ponging it between Poughkeepsie & Highland on www.walkway.org, which is open late for 5th anniversary.
