Hello there! Record lovers, here’s your chance to own a dream! “I have no idea what exact records are in the pile so please do not ask since they are free. I just want them gone.” newyork.craigslist.org...

jake - one would probably be stopping at the nearest dumpster after picking up that pile. but there could be one or two that are good and not mistreated.

The thing is that damp pile of potential gold is in Ossining. But this guy who does free metal cutting is in Brooklyn, “Don't call an expensive locksmith!” newyork.craigslist.org...

And to the point, I do enjoy the instrumentals happening now. Very good autumnal afternoon sunset music, Gaylord.

That stack of records could be good for somebody's art project.... cut the LP's up and glue/tape them back together, make ashtrays or clocks out of 'em, etc.. In my neighborhood you could put them by the curb with a "FREE" sign on them. Sorry about the damaged LPs. I'd be bummed.
  5:21pm
JakeGould:

“In my neighborhood you could put them by the curb with a "FREE" sign on them.” Park Slope? I hate those “FREE” signs.

"FREE" signs are a little tacky I guess. Hope they go to a good home!

I saw a pile of rags on a stoop in Park Slope once. Not in a bag. Just sitting on a step. And on them a note that read “FREE MATERNITY CLOTHES!” as if that was the most amazing gift ever given. A pile of dirty rags on the stoop… Just what a mother-to-be dreams of.

@Philo Gristle: Then who need the sun?
Avatar 5:59pm

@P-90: I even learned the 3-chord "monte" on my stepfather's bass uke before I got my guitar, but I am tapped out on the sound now in pop culture. Esp. in the hands of "cute, quirky girls." Ugggh. But don't get me started on "breathy, little girl voiced vocalists" -- I'd take ukes over that sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
Sem Chumbo:

@Gaylord: perhaps that last song could be the signature sign-off song for FMU, if it ever signed off the air.
"God save you this holy house"
Avatar 6:03pm
Philo Gristle:

@Gaylord I was going to flippantly say not the Finns, but being one of the suicide capitals of the world, I think we all need it. When it disappears for months in the heart of winter, the image and desire for it still sustains most if not all....

I count the days to the shortest one of the year, and then count them to the longest. So, I guess I am a sun-o-phile in that respect.
Avatar 6:08pm
Rick Heinegeber:

That's what I love about FMU - You never know what you're gonna get.
Avatar 6:10pm
kat330:

@Rick: But when you've given money to a show specifically toward its survival, it goes beyond shock. Fully half the shows we donated to are either gone or moved to a non-listenable time slot. Gaylord, you are one to remain in place, thank the true goddesses.

If I gave to a show that is now off the schedule, I feel it is a vote that will be weighed later on when the DJ is reconsidered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm
Aitch:

Bit of Moistboyz perhaps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
Gaylord Fields:

I really, really don't want to get in a big discussion about it, but if DJs have said or implied that their individual survival (and not the station's) counts on you pledging to their shows, that's just not so.
Avatar 6:18pm
kat330:

@Jake: Perhaps, but I should add this is already at the "fool me twice, shame on fmU" level. I know I won't be tuning in as much for many months, and likely active on boards even less.
Avatar 6:20pm
kat330:

@Gaylord: No, no, never suggested. But we have very little to spread around as it is, so obviously we'd prefer what we give to go to what we enjoy hearing. It's always those we don't so much that stay on in place, year after year, and that has to make us think twice, thrice and beyond.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm

I'm kinda scared to check out the new schedule now Kat. I'm sure most of those DJ's decided to take a break (and will be back) or move on to other things for a while.
Avatar 6:23pm
kat330:

@Rick: I'm sure it's fine for 98% of male listeners, so not to worry.

@Gaylord: Certainly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm
Gaylord Fields:

@kat330: I will say this for public consumption: You don't entirely know why those DJs left the air. But please contact me offlist.
  6:26pm
JakeGould:

The only issue I have with this schedule is how rock oriented and dude oriented the Saturday schedule is compared to before. But that is all.
  6:26pm
rw:

Rick, I haven't perused the schedule, but it doesn't seem to have shifted more than you'd expect something like this to shift. As Kat330 just inferred it's a little more male oriented this season than it probably should be, but I'm sure that will shift back too.
Avatar 6:29pm
kat330:

@Jake: Well, there can even be female DJs who are more "dude oriented" in their playlists, and those are the only ones who seemed to remain within the same timeframe as before (except for Trouble, whose taste I greatly applaud -- just not some frequent commenters she gets).
Avatar 6:30pm

This Sched. Change happens to be pretty big - lotsa programs going, a slot shift or two I wouldn't choose...
- & it's one thing if a DJ wants a break, but one gets the impression that's not the case for a few DJs this time. I suppose it can't always be. Programs mean a lot to us, you know. I feel it too, as I'm sure a few do. That's all I know ! I wouldn't want Ken's job - as I - to borrow a phrase from Mitch Mitchell - couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery myself...
