I wish there was a 7" record with a picture sleeve, titled Thelonious Monk Is A Surfin' Fool. One side would be Chris Spedding & Peter Frampton's version of "Work" -- the other side would be T.J. Kirk's version of "Brake's Sake". The picture sleeve would be a Photoshopped image of Monk with his silly wool hat on a surfboard. That is all.

It's on Live At The Pershing, an album that I grew up with.

Hi Dave!!!

The company that took apart Ray Bradbury's home will soon be offering bookends made from wood extracted from the house. I would buy, but expect they will be out of my budget. Still, one can hope.
Avatar 10:48pm
Dave Mandl:

@pss: That's slightly disturbing. I mean what they're doing, not that it's out of your budget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Mutant:

Sounds like the digital years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
pacific standard simon:

It was all arranged with Bradbury's family. People were upset that the home was sold after his death, and scheduled for demolition so that a new house could be built. The plan is to build a replica of his writing den elsewhere, and satisfy the sentimental (me!) with a piece of the real thing on their bookshelves. Works for me.
Avatar 10:58pm
HollyT:

Nope! It's from Yeats.
  10:58pm
JakeGould:

“The Golden Apples of the Sun” is Bradbury.
  10:58pm
JakeGould:

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.
—W. B. Yeats, The Wind Among the Reeds
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Mutant:

Silver Apples of the Moon is from 1995. Subotnick's was from 1967.
Avatar 11:00pm
HollyT:

@JakeGould, was just about to post that. But, title is "Song of the Wandering Aengus" if I'm not mistaken.
Avatar 11:02pm
Dave Mandl:

OK, so Bradbury got the line from Yeats. His short story is probably early '60s.
Avatar 11:05pm
HollyT:

I can't help it. I am a born pedant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
pacific standard simon:

It totally makes sense that Bradbury would be a Yeats fan. And I was just reading that he was best man at Stan Freberg's wedding.

Avatar 11:13pm
Dave Mandl:

@Bronwyn: Agreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
pacific standard simon:

Just pulled down off the shelf the very volume -- all the stories in The Golden Apples Of The Sun are copyright 1952, 1953, and Yeats, and his poem, are credited on the appropriate page. About time to go back and re-read this stuff.
Avatar 11:26pm
HollyT:

By the way Dave, there is a musical version of the Yeats poem which you are probably familiar with. Chris Thompson, not sure the year, but late 60s/early 70s, I guess. I've heard it on FMU, I can't remember which show though.
