Avatar 12:04pm βrian:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Charlie:

Hi bobdoes
  12:05pm frenchee:

I still get freaked out when I hear f-bombs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Charlie:

Avatar 12:16pm mauri:

  12:18pm Listening Out There:

Had to be Borrah Minnevitch or the Harmonicats. Not too many harmonica-only ensembles out there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Charlie:

hi mauri -- sauna and swim -- nice!
hey "out there" -- you're right about that.
  12:31pm frenchee:

My homestate! OY. xxo CHARLIE Not all Hoosiers are haters, btw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Charlie:

Hey you Hoosier Hotshot!
I would guess that the haters are an extreme minority actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Parq:

Cornershop! Make way for a lady.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Uncle Michael:

Good afternoon.
Avatar 12:36pm ndbob:

Avatar 12:36pm ndbob:

  12:39pm jan:

Arghh. I forgot to tune in- was listening to Irwin on archive. What did I miss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Charlie:

hiya Uncle, Parq, Jan -- nice to see you all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Parq:

Wild Tschoups -- another favorite.
Avatar 12:45pm conkrete dawg:

love the Wild Tchoupitoulas!
  12:45pm frenchee:

Wild INDIAN so good
  12:46pm frenchee:

"gonna stomp some rump"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Mike East:

Tchoupitoulas - my favorite street name in New Orleans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Charlie:

they do stomp some rump
and they got 'em some
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm listener james from westwood:

I have not heard this Air cut in for-fraggin'-ever. Will have to put it on the current computer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm listener james from westwood:

I would love to see Gen Con leave Indiana. Huge piece of business that would be warmly welcomed everywhere from Portland to Vegas to Charlotte. The only language these Republican scum understand is money.
Avatar 1:00pm ndbob:

That's the purpose Charlie, though its more complex then that - the Indiana law applied to private as well as governmental actions - and there is no law protecting LBGT people statewide here - though some jurisdictions have them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Charlie:

That Air cut was used as the bed music for the intro and outro for the Alan Watts hour on WFMU. I think the host/board op had discretion about what music was used. (Frenchee?)
Avatar 1:01pm ndbob:

@James nothing like returning hate with more hate huh?
  1:01pm doyle:

....butterflitting by... : )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm listener james from westwood:

@Charlie: Yes! I was trying to recall whether it was Watts or Dave Emory.

@ndbob: I've said my piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Charlie:

I've really enjoyed all the backlash against the law and gov Pence, including the NCAA and all the final four schools and teams making public statements. And the CEO of Angie's List.
Avatar 1:03pm ndbob:

@James I probably agree with you almost totally if not totally on the main issue here but...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Charlie:

Hey there Doyle -- thanks for flitting.
  1:04pm frenchee:

OH HAI, I don't recall the bed music for Alan Watts. My guess is that DEBBIE D. chose it though. Sorry, I was so nervous in those days, with freakin CASSETTE TAPES to cue up.
  1:04pm doyle:

lived in a tiny indiana town for 6 years=i'm cool
Avatar 1:04pm Carmichael:

Heya Charlie, been listening but too busy to comment. The documentary Always for Pleasure still stands the test of time. Made me go out and buy the Tchoupitoulas album, too.
Avatar 1:05pm ndbob:

I agree Charlie - but I do wonder what the reaction of people here would be if someone used similar invective against Democrats
Avatar 1:06pm ndbob:

Enough said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Charlie:

Well, what I mean is that, more than "backlash," I enjoy seeing so many people coming out with positive and supportive comments and statements. I think it makes the minority of haters (who get interviewed on the news channels) look silly and small.
Avatar 1:09pm ndbob:

Indeed Charlie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Charlie:

oh, and hey, Carmichael
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Parq:

Nbob, I don't see any reason for FMU or any of us regulars to apologize for the fact that the majority of FMU people (props, Irwin, Bill, Burns) are left-wing. The right has comfortable majority in most spheres of American life (business owners, corporate heads, the military, school-teachers, the clergy) and it shows how uncompromising they are that they are obsessed with those few spheres (academia, the arts ) that aren't in their claws.
Avatar 1:18pm ndbob:

I don't think for a second you do Parq - and I probably agree with you on most issues - buy ya know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm doctorjazz:

Man, haven't heard this since High School (dating myself), coolest guy in my class (at the time) idolized Leslie, formed a trio and played these songs/solos at school events. Ahhhh...
(oops, wasn't reading, I'm in the middle of a political discussion and I bring up music, MY BAD!)
Avatar 1:21pm ndbob:

I've pretty much given up hop on rational discourse from either side - and it'sad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Parq:

There was a time in my life when I knew Nantucket Sleighride literally note for note. It's all coming back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Charlie:

Bringing up the music is always welcome, dr J. I rarely get (overtly) political here on the show.
Avatar 1:24pm still b/p:

Just got here in time for a BB favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm doctorjazz:

I know, was kidding...the sad thing is, we really need to discuss these things, but it's impossible and sad, because no one can ever hear anything the other side has to say these days.
Avatar 1:25pm ndbob:

Here too Parq actually
Avatar 1:25pm ndbob:

Yep doctor
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Parq:

I'll level with you all. (And then I'll shut up -- I'm fully aware that I'm hogging the comments today.) For decades, I was willing to compromise, to listen to the other side with an open mind, to explain my position rationally and respectfully, to accept that the right had points worth considering. In return, they made a monkey of me, and all other lefties, with the worst sort of dirty tricks, intellectual dishonesty and screaming, frothing insults. I'm done with that shit. And I don't buy for a minute the standard "both sides are at fault" stuff. I don't see it that way at all.
Avatar 1:33pm ndbob:

@parq no need to shut up - I think both sides are at fault - though the right far far more then the left - there is a large center too - and in many ways it's drifting to the left - just look at the change re gay marriage - particularly among the young, including lots of Republicans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Charlie:

Well, this is why I usually keep my political opinions to myself here and just play music. I'm truly sorry if I've stirred anything up here.
Avatar 1:37pm ndbob:

It's fine Charlie - I don't think anything said here is personal - not by me or towards me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm doctorjazz:

I didn't mean to say it is all equal, the right has definitely learned how to manipulate talking points, repeat an untrue message over and over until it becomes "true", and Center/Left do seem to be the only ones who can hear anything not doctrine (look at Obama, who is anything but a flag waving leftie, and how he is painted). But, the well is so poisoned at this point (whoever is at fault) that discussion and compromise have become dirty words, whowever is at fault.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm listener james from westwood:

I'm likely more the stirrer than anything, Charlie, so do not stop sharing on account of my own hot takes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Parq:

<comes down off high horse, and out of cold shower> Okay, I feel better now. Sincere ups to nbbob, Charlie, everyone else who put up with me today. I promise to behave myself during Fiveash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Charlie:

Yes, Bob, but my intention here is to create a place for people to come together, and to foster a feeling of (for want of a better word) inclusion. So it's just disturbing for me to see people arguing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm listener james from westwood:

Apologies, Charlie and all, for making things uncomfortable. I too am here for the camaraderie. WFMU is surely a tent under which we can all gather.
  1:43pm frenchee:

..."except for the Irish...."
Avatar 1:43pm ndbob:

Sincere ups to Parq and everyone - an I do think Charlie we feel included - we all love the music for one thing - an though wehave strong feelings on things - that's fine and we are al l friends
  1:43pm jan:

nice hearing country joe instrumental.
Avatar 1:44pm ndbob:

Yep, always loved this
  1:45pm Matt:

Wow, Country Joe were way weirder than I ever gave them credit for.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Charlie:

"Frenchees need not apply..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Charlie:

Country Joe and the Fish bring everyone together! Who'd-a-thunk-it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm listener james from westwood:

frenchee wins the thread for the "Blazing Saddles" ref.
Avatar 1:48pm ndbob:

maybe because Barry Melton is a politician:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm doctorjazz:

Time for the Country Joe Cheer...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Charlie:

I didn't even get to do my Jim Nabors rap!
Avatar 1:51pm Carmichael:

Barry Melton was the Yolo County Public Defender for 25 years out here in NorCal.
  1:52pm johnk77:

barry melton is a great guy
Avatar 1:57pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Charlie:

Thanks, Bob, and thanks for hanging out and hanging in there, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm PMD:

Catching end. Sorry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks as always, Charlie!
  2:24pm doyle:

relevant to nothing...really... i remember being terrified by the band Mountain, their album photos - I thought they juste might murder me... so thanks, Charlie, I'll sleep well tonight
