So, pretty cool to come up with all these singles that work as a set so terrifically!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Nate K:

I should have bought more stuff from the guy that had all of the Excello and Specialty stuff.
Avatar 2:34pm
sugarwolf:

I'm going to guess it takes a barrel of monkeys.
Avatar 2:35pm
Mailman Tom:

One monkey would stop any show if he was as big as King Kong !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
Nate K:

I'm pretty sure he decided it was four, four monkeys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
pacific standard simon:

Or he had an act with a donkey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
efd:

Thank you for this reminder of the greatness of Joe Tex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
pacific standard simon:

This one seems somewhat below VG- in grade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Gaylord Fields:

The number depends on whether by "stopping the show" you mean just a temporarily cessasion of performance or if you mean the show totally canceled, everyone gets sent home with a refund (minus Ticketmaster's "service, handling, and processing fees"), of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Matt F:

PSS- I think that was a fleeting turntable issue rather than a problem with the record itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Nate K:

So four gets you a pause in the action, but if you want to really shut it down, you'll need a barrel, which then begs the question how many monkeys are in a barrel? To square one we return.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Nate K: Yes, my answer is four under the first (stopped, then resumed) scenario, and twelve for complete cancellation. But then, paradoxically, any number of monkeys between four and twelve enhances the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
pacific standard simon:

Ah. That makes sense.

A rabid monkey'll stop any show. Speaking as a man of he world, if you know what I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Nate K:

12, noted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
pacific standard simon:

An instrumental version of "Fortune Teller" titled "Crystal Ball"? AWESOME.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Dominick:

I'll have a bergen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Gaylord Fields:

And let's be clear we're referrig to actual monkeys (spider monkeys, capuchins, macaques) and not chimps, who are, after all, apes!
Avatar 2:50pm
sugarwolf:

How many Monkees stop the show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
Matt F:

Amanda is probably best qualified to answer that.
Avatar 2:53pm
Sean B.:

Ha Simon...that's what I was thinking...like is this the backing to fortune teller?. Great cut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Gaylord Fields:

@sugarwolf: Three, as on and off for decades the Monkees have recorded and toured with as few as two members under the name.
Avatar 2:55pm
sugarwolf:

But what if you gave the Monkees typewriters and an infinite amount of time? Would that stop the show? What if they were in the barrel?
Avatar 2:55pm
Monica:

ahhhh... one of my faves on the airwaves, some of my faves on comments, and a good cup of coffee. what more could a gal want?
Avatar 2:56pm
Maslaki:

Theme from my favorite movie...I once bought a zither.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
pacific standard simon:

I'm pretty sure I've heard this Micky Baker on this show before -- but why not every show? It's that good.
Avatar 2:57pm
sugarwolf:

Happy 100th birthday, Orson Welles! Gonna go pee in a pool to commemorate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
Gaylord Fields:

Also, contrary to R&B lore, if you recall the "macaca" controversy, one monkey did stop George Allen's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm
pacific standard simon:

That reminds me, I'm sure I have a surf-rock version of "Linus And Lucy" somewhere, but I'll be damned if I can remember where.
Avatar 2:59pm
sugarwolf:

How many Monkey's (or would it be Monkeys' ????) Uncles would it take to stop the show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
Gaylord Fields:

You can't spell "mwah!" without Monica! Well, I can't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
listener james from westwood:

Right now I'm proofreading a text that mentions a monkey with an eye patch, but as yet no mention of simian piracy.
Avatar 3:01pm

@PSSimon wfmu.org... This right here is probably one of Matt's best shows [and my intro to the world of Mickey Baker];Along with the 5 hour tribute to Chuck Berry he did with Ted.

Maslaki- possibly my favorite movie too. Definitely the one I've seen the most times.
Avatar 3:09pm
Sean B.:

Yeah@PSimon I'm waiting for a 2 or 3 hour tribute to Ben E. King [I think that Ted Barron would do that feat the best justice].

The author of "Ooby Dooby" was one of my English professors, which might explain something.

Matt, you got all of these at this year's Fair? Wow, you really cleaned up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
pacific standard simon:

Thanks Matt. I'm looking forward to having a new batch of strangers to "accidentally" introduce to the wonders of FMU via my work soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Matt F:

Parq- cleaned up or got cleaned out, depending on your perspective...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
drr:

How come you didn't get any new records? These all sound kind of old, tbh.
Avatar 3:46pm
sugarwolf:

I just don't have the mental energy to go through all those crates at the fair anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Matt F:

I cleaned up but I didn't clean up these records.
Avatar 3:47pm
sugarwolf:

that's obvious!!! (I kid, I kid)(or do I???)
  3:51pm
SB:

I used to use a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol with paper towels and then a rinse with warm water. A delicate process...too much of both will destroy the vinyl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
pacific standard simon:

Paper towels? Fie! Microfiber cloth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Parq:

I'm sure you drove a shrewd bargain for each and every one of these. And if I wanted to listen to totally clean versions, I'd find some radio show that plays only digitally remastered CDs of the stuff.
Avatar 3:57pm
Sean B.:

If you were going to pick ONE song to pay tribute to Ben E King, THIS would be it. Rest In Peace Ben!.
Avatar 3:57pm
Monica:

now that was a goddam show!
