Hi DJ Amanda!

That's the same expression I have on my face when I eat a nice fresh cucumber.

This critter could teach me a thing or two about proper vegetable intake.

(The squirrel, I mean, not Amanda.)

Speaking of whom, hello!

We're getting better at baton-passing, Amanda. Thanks for catching so gracefully.

I think that's a groundhog..?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm

@MONEYBAG$ is right! At least that is what the internet told me it was. Maybe a baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
listener james from westwood:

Groundhog! See, this is why I need Carl Spackler around to help me properly ID rodents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm

"Charms" is the most popular euphamism in popular song. Hello Nazarenes!

Oooh, Bratmobile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm

Mike Leander, one of the composers of "Lady Godiva" did the arrangement for "She's Leaving Home" as George Martin was not available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Mike East:

nice fun fact, Dominick., thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Amanda:

I'm getting better at catching, which is the closest I will come to being good at sports in real life besides video games
  12:17pm
P-90:

Dominick: That's fascinating, he certainly matched the style of Martin's collaborations with McCartney very closely. Is there a reference for this info?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Uncle Michael:

Speaking of cucumbers, I'm annoyingly proud of my first batch of dill pickles. I'm using every venue to boast about their charms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
listener james from westwood:

A fine way to make a huge cuke harvest outlast the season, UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Uncle Michael:

Martin was unavailable and was very put out about this treachery afterward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Uncle Michael:

I don't have a cuke harvest...but the farmer's market does. The pickling cuckes are *cheap*.

@MB$: Best place for band practice! Keeps the equipment cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm

most of the punk basements I've been in get pretty hot and sweaty when in use, but I agree, its where punk lives. also mice and bugs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Uncle Michael:

I caught that, Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm
Amanda:

What do you put in your pickle brine, UM?
Avatar 12:46pm
northguineahills:

This Half Human has nice mid-90s post-rock sound to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Uncle Michael:

Pickling salt, dill seed, fresh dill, garlic, peppercorns and an oak leaf for tannin. I'm going to use a grape leaf next time. It's basically Alton Brown's recipe without the red pepper flakes and with the leaf added.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Amanda:

Yah, I like their droneyness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Nate K:

I like that Cat Power song. I think it's my fave of her records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
Uncle Michael:

I used the crock liner from our big crock pot. I used Alton's tip for keeping the cukes submerged with ziplock bags of brine on top (just the salt and water). That way, if they leak, they don't dilute the brine. They didn't leak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Amanda:

@Nate, my fav of hers too. Both the songs and the production, just impeccable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm

@Amanda, Indeed, that's what happens when you get the Hi Records crew involved.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm

@UM, I had a friend who was not only a brewer but also a breadmaker and occasional pickler. It was like knowing Gandalf. Much respect for DIY food folk, whether growing or prepping/cooking/preserving.

when I was in high school I always assumed I was mishearing misfits lyrics, then years later I got the box set and they were all printed inside...turns out I was hearing them correctly and they just made little sense

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Amanda:

Dammit, why is this record so quiet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
Amanda:

This 45 is mastered very soft, but I am having a fun time pushing the volume all the way up because I'm not usually allowed to.
  1:19pm
Dean:

As if turning up the volume on 4'33" would make much of a difference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Amanda:

I don't get it
  1:21pm
Dean:

Yeah, it was oblique at best. I was trying to hypothesize that you were spinning a John Cage record. I'm zero-for-one.
  1:21pm
is_potato:

This is reminds me of the music that plays in classic cartoons when everyone is busy working.
  1:22pm
is_potato:

Yay! Simpsons Time!
  1:23pm
listener james from westwood:

This Simpsons ep is very important to me. I first saw it as a rerun after I missed Season 4 in its near-entirety, following my listening to a close friend who said the show was getting crappy and way too Homer focused.

I eventually saw the last bit of the season in first run and the whole season in reruns.

I don't speak to the person in question much anymore.

Both of these are wins.
Avatar 1:24pm
northguineahills:

@Dean, you can also use that metaphor for Christian Marclay's "Record w/o a cover".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm

A favorite ep, for me.

Avatar 1:35pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
Nate K:

"Gentlemen, to evil!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
listener james from westwood:

LOL@ WWII; that's as far as we ever got in grammar school history class, sometimes not even thru the whole war, so that line landed like Fat Man with me.
Avatar 1:36pm
steve:

season 4 is the only dvd i own. it could be cuz the first episode in the season, but to me it seems more like season 3 than the aformentioned rapidfire joke writing of the rest of season.

also i could be wrong but it seems like the animation style changed slightly after this episode? could it be the move from KlaskyCsupo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
Jeff Golick:

Dazed and Confused, the movie, also captures that same mood of "last day of school" very well.
Avatar 1:37pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'We can't even thinkuv a word that rhymes'
- as good as it gets.
  1:43pm

I never knew this song had words!
Avatar 1:43pm

Always liked this version - finally read the novel a few months ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm

@MB: A friend of mine swore that White Zombie's "More Human Than Human" had no actual words, just speechlike droning and a lot of "Yeah!"s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Amanda:

@steve, the first episode that aired that was made at Film Roman was Homer the Heretic. So yeah, s4 has some small probs with animation as they were exiting the old studio and getting used to the new one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Jeff Golick:

Avatar 1:57pm
ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
listener james from westwood:

@Amanda: When I hear TS, I think of Ralph getting stuck w/ tethered swimming in, what, "Lisa on Ice"? "This doesn't feel right!"
  1:58pm
P-90:

And remember, part of the reason for the move to Film Roman was to standardize the appearances of the characters and settings to conform to Groening's wishes, and remove the design "influence" of Klasky & Csupo, so that s4 "transitional" phase reflects not just a change of animation studio but a period of retooling the whole visual style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm
