This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

it pops all the themes, makes them hurt

Hello Mayuko!
Avatar 7:25pm
Flash Strap:

well.... I didn't BUY it, alas. I do HAVE it, and it's essential. Depending on how devoted you are to outtakes and studio patter. The 2 disc version could do, as it's reconstructed Smile is THE one, I think

listener james from westwood:

It was on FMU, years ago, when I first heard the rough cuts and takes and instrumental bits that made up some of the Beach Boys' later songs. It's not that I didn't know how much layering and how many takes went into producing their music, but I'd never heard the process in such detail. Amazing and exacting craft.
Avatar 7:32pm
ndbob:

I've heard it but don't have it
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
Gary:

I had the Brian Wilson Presents version (if that's what it was called), but Holy God it gave no indication of how awesome this is so far.
Avatar 7:34pm
Flash Strap:

One of the best things is hearing how brilliant and not crazy Brian sounds. There's also just so many ideas going on, it's almost unbearable. It's a universe splitting in half for an overabundance of life
Avatar 7:34pm
Flash Strap:

I really don't like the Brian Wilson Presents, though I want to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
Santos L Halper:

Ooohh, just tuned in. I've got the SMiLE box (thanks Mom!) and it's pretty great. Kind of hypnotic, all the tons of outtakes and bits and pieces

As long as it's not damaging, it's cool. I find thunder to be a mind-altering substance. I don't think this is tornadic.
Avatar 8:21pm

Yeah, that's doable. The tornadoes are awful but a good thunderstorm is just fine
Avatar 8:22pm

20/20 isn't bad overall, but i sure find that "cotton fields" cover to open side 2 tough to take

specifically this lyric:
Over and over
The crow cries, uncover the cornfield
Over and over
The thresher and hover the wheat field
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm

"snapped Mike Love's twig-like mind". Priceless! : D

Flash Strap:

Once again, this version is so interestingly different from the Smiley version. More bounce!

The Elements Suite, such as it is, is Vega-tables (earth), Wind Chimes (air), Fire (Mrs. O'Leary's Cow) (fire of course), and Love to Say Dada (water)

Fire (Mrs. O'Leary's Cow) is of course the track where Brian had a fire going in the studio, had everyone wearing firemen's helmets, etc. and eventually came to feel it had psychokinetic properties when a nearby fire broke out. he may or may not have tried to destroy the tapes in fear

"Yeah, I’m going to call this 'Mrs. O’Leary’s Fire' and I think it might just scare a whole lot of people."
