I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Henry, we're following the sun tonight. That was the initial plan anyway. Wanted to do something about the sun, I was inspired by Doug's south african set from last week which made me feel like I was sitting in the sunlight. But it feels already sounding different now, haha.

This Persian poem is off the charts

I agree, Gary. And I certainly don't need marijuana or any drugs to be a happy spacekadet when there's a song like this.

fred:

Another stellar show, Mayuko.
"Jeux Des Anges" could mean "the games angels play", but I'm being influenced by the film title there
"La Marionnette Du Chinois" could mean "The Chinese man's puppet", but I'm uncomfortable there: "Chinois" means "Chinese", but it's also a generic term meant as a slur here in France. My brother was adopted from Korea, so I'm pretty sensitive to this, he was called "chinois" way too often, the way a former girlfriend was called "chinoise" (she was actually Vietnamese, which made it worse). I'm not saying that was the intent, just that I'm not comfortable translating in that context
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
fred:

I guess I should add that my sister was adopted too, and she's black. Race isn't a thing to me, I lucked into that
Avatar 9:17pm
Mayuko:

@fred you have pretty interesting background, from my point of view anyway (who grew up in a society with very low diversity.) But I can still at least imagine what your brother's experience was like - since many idiots here try to flirt and say ni hao to me. I have no problem with Chinese people, just with stupidity. But I wonder - how do Chinese call themselves in French if the word has become sort of a racial slur now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
fred:

I don't know. I hope they call themselves whatever they want and ignore the stupidity. And I wish we can get to the point where they can call themselves French if they want. We're not there, and not headed that way, unfortunately
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm
fred:

Two more things: that "ni hao" thing is something that drove my former girlfriend crazy, it really struck a nerve. And my brother is the most French guy I know, seriously. He can throw in the occasional Kimchi curveball, but he's more French than me by a landslide
