My pleasure, @Rev. My job as a gallery guard at a museum literally requires me to listen to this song on repeat for hours at a time, and yet I never tire of it.

...for his B-Day on the 27th - watched a couple of docs - & - it's always just when you think you know all about Hendrix - exposed to him again & it's that instant 500-volt direct connection once again...

Welcome to the horse party, @Doug.

Lee Konitz still saves this 80s jazz piece. (hard to find good 80s jazz, it exists, but you have to look [I might be biased]).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Sam Segal:

I hear that, @ngh. The lack of the '80s jazz drum sound helps too. Those '80s snares, so tinny.

This Kill the Vultures track reminds me a little bit of Dälek, of Newark, NJ.

Dug that Deux Maisons track a little while back...evening, all.

Welcome, @Jeff.
@Ike: I'll have to check out Dalek. KTV are kind of local legends here in Minneapolis.

Snake:

Have to disagree with ngh on the 80's being bad for jazz...Granted much of it was done in Europe but there was plenty stateside too. Groups like Art Ensemble of Chicago, Anthony Braxton, Vienna Art Orchestra, Globe Unity Orch. Willem Breuker Kollektief...Black Saint Records ...Hat Art Records and many others!!!!

northguineahills:

Dalek were great, they even did a few tracks w/ Faust, believe it or not.

Jeff Golick:

If you'll forgive the slight self-aggrandizement here, for 1980s jazz possibilities, try: destination-out.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Sam Segal:

Couldn't agree more, @Snake. Plenty of incredible jazz released in the '80s. Sometimes I find the production a little cold on records put out in the '80s, but there's certainly no lack of boundary-pushing sounds. Then again, sometimes I love the super '80s sounds of Ornette's records from the decade, as well as Herbie Hancock's.

northguineahills:

Anthony Braxton can never do any wrong, but even the Art Ensemble of Chicago sounded tepid w/ Nice Guys (wait, was that '79?), Hat Art put out a lot of good stuff, but sometimes even some producers would numb the impact. The regular suspects mentioned above and including Steve Lacy, Evan Parker and others still made good stuff. I feel that the 80s was comparatively a dark age for jazz in general.

Snake:

I think most of the music I'm speaking of was not available stateside and not covered by magazines in the states.Cadence Magazine in Redwood N.Y. covered most of the music I'm speaking of and most of it was free jazz and most not available any longer.Labels like: Claxton from Holland, FMP from Germany, Moers Music.. Germany,Nato from France , Metalanguage from the US.And one of the old critics lives in Minneapolis Mn. where Sam is broadcasting from and his name is Milo Fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Sam Segal:

Milo Fine! Another local legend. A friend of mine took drum lessons from Milo Fine in middle school at a suburban music store. He said Milo spent most of their lessons talking about B-Movie horror flicks.
  11:27pm
Snake:

Milo was a brutal reviewer.....he pissed many musicians off with his reviews...but usually he was so right.I never cared that much for his music but i loved his attitude and his reviews were great!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Sam Segal:

He still plays around the Twin Cities from time to time. Also, I believe he once played with Walter Zuber Armstrong at the Walker Art Center here in Minneapolis in the early '80s.
