re: backing vocals on "Sugar on Sunday"

Don't have the LP right in front of me, but if those were done solely by members of the Shondells, Tommy got a lot of bang for his buck here. Those mofo's could not only play, but then sing like birds...

Mike Sin:

Hey, and thanks, for the "electronic" dedication, as it were... Thatsa nice-a!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm

@Mike Sin: They must've sang 'em. Or it could Tommy James overdubbing a million times.
  3:24pm
davemarando:

I always thought this version had a drummer who heard the song once and was like ok I got it!

davemarando:

how many hits did the lemon pipers have
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
MattBelow:

@Pops: I know Green Tambourine and Rice Is Nice were the biggies. Maybe Mr. Sin or Joe know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Mike Sin:

re: Lemon Pipers
Was just going to post that -- Nothing compared to "Green Tambo," but I think "Rice is Nice" was the only other top-40 hit.
  3:47pm
davemarando:

ok thanks
Avatar 3:50pm
Joe B:

seemed like more hits for them as I had the Checkmate LP! (1910's hits on Side 2)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
MattBelow:

@Joe B: Sounds like a must have!
  3:54pm
davemarando:

when did it become not just the animals
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
MattBelow:

@Pops: Early 1966
  3:57pm
davemarando:

wonder why his name had to be in front
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
MattBelow:

@Pops: But then later in 1966 the original band disbanded and he got a whole new band, one of which ended up being Mr Summers from The Police
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
Mike Sin:

@davemarando re: Animals

The band broke up for all intents and purpose after a 1966 US tour. (Chas Chandler actually went off and discovered Jimi Hendrix!) Eric B. essentially got another crew together and put his name out front.
  3:58pm
davemarando:

interesting i love the history to these bands
Avatar 3:58pm
Joe B:

great show Matt!
