New York Macedonian Roots Band Odglasi

New York's one and only Macedonian-style folk band Odglasi brings the effervescent sounds of that mountainous Balkan land to WFMU! Odglasi's music is inspired by the work of Pece Atanasovski, long-time leader of the Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Radio-Televizia-Skopje - in fact Vedran Boskovski (gajda, tambura, kaval, vocals) of Odglasi played with an offshoot of the orchestra. But Odglasi also draws from other rural and urban traditional sources and does their own thing with the source material too.

Odglasi blew us away at Golden Fest, the Balkan music-and-dance-lover's bacchanal, last January. Before they do it again at Golden Fest 2016 at Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn next month, they'll rock WFMU Skopje-style tonight!

I didn't realize it at the time, but this track, the last piece I played dbefore Odglasi's set was a Bulgarian arrangement of the same instrumental dance they started with. I wish I could take credit for it but it was completely by accident! But it does make for an interesting A-to-B...
