Picked up a copy for a quarter from a guy selling books on an NYC sidewalk, thinking maybe a decade might have put me in a more receptive mindset. Nope. for Detested the protagonist anew and rage-quit it for good.

	10:14am Bill W: I lasted about 50 pages with both "Mrs Dalloway" and "Jane Eyre." About a third of the book with "In Cold Blood" before I remembered i don't like true-crime.
	10:14am chromaphone: I just tried Last Child in the Woods on a recommendation but its preachy nature bothered me, even though I seem to agree with everything that Louv is saying.

He reuses some of the same scenes that appear in Garp (for example, a lecturer at the boarding school slipping on ice), and I don't know that I want to see them again. And Again. There are so many books out there!

	10:24am LizGig: I adored Jane Eyre as a teenager. Read it first at 13 and then reread and reread. When I reread it in my early 30s I had a completely different experience and probably won't reread it again. I loved all the gothicism as a teen, but after a break of a few decades it just became trite. On the same note, The Phantom Tollbooth was a terrible disappointment as an adult!

	10:26am Ike: "Lord of the Rings" trilogy -- interminable, w/way too much fluff. Tolkien had the right length w/"Hobbit" then over-indulged severely. A rare case where the movies were better than the book(s) because they had to edit out heaps of stupid pointless waffle.
	10:26am Utopiast: And while I am an atheist and believe in objective reality, Rand took a big crap on social engineering and forgot the most important premise: The world is what we make of it. Yes, we can not regulate and let things spin the way they will, which is usually toward greed and division, or we can create something more palatable for all.

	10:39am Neil, Wild: Rand had some brilliant passages, and can really write a page turner (after all , her favorite author was....Mickey Spillane!)....but as a person, she was a turd. Like Salvador Dali whose work I like, but as a person despise...strongly....I look around at semi-deserted small town downtowns and it strongly reminds me of Rand scenarios....unlike in Poland where 500 year old downtowns will be re-utilized for anything like cell phone stores and cafes...unlike our strip mall mentality.....rant off...

He reuses some of the same scenes that appear in Garp (for example, a lecturer at the boarding school slipping on ice), and I don't know that I want to see them again. And Again. When I reread it in my early 30s I had a completely different experience and probably won't reread it again. I loved all the gothicism as a teen, but after a break of a few decades it just became trite. On the same note, The Phantom Tollbooth was a terrible disappointment as an adult!
